Mother board the size of a stick of gum!

amazing, before long it will be the keyboard and monitor in your way, with your pc in your shirt pocket. Maybe can use glasses with video projected into the eye and real voice recognition so no keyboard needed, maybe even follow your eyes to were u want to click so no mouse;)
  5. I am curious how the quality of say live viewing is when you have 8 and/or more cameras running on this 120fps card. Is the lower FPS, I assume 15fps for 8 cameras affect seeing most of what is going on? Any tips on this type of setup and results would be great. Thanks, MJ

  7. Hi, It has been quite sometime since I have visited CCTVforum. I started doing CCTV installs about three years back and installed 90% Geovision cards. I did this on the side after losing my job in the PC world. I had a Tiawanese friend who goes back once a year or so to see family and he told me his dad's office was near Geovsions. I asked him to pick me up a card as surely the direct source would be the best price. He brought me back a card and it saved me around $100 at the time. Well, problem was he brought back a Taiwanese version that will only work with Mandarin Windows XP installed, not the US version. This was verified by me installing it on a Chinese copy of XP and it work, cept I cannot read Chinese:) Also I swapped out the big 20 pin IC chip with ones I was installing at the time and the card would work on US XP. I asked for help several years ago to no avail. Now it has been nearly three years with this card sitting in the box. Recently I have some vandalism problems and I am wanting to try and catch the culprits. I have some cameras left over, but no card that works. This card is not pirated card, it has ALL original documentaion, boxes, etc. What I am asking for is some help to use this card. Via a chip upgrade, USB dongle if it will work, anything. Geovision got the money for their card, I have installed many of their cards, now I would like to catch these people destroying my property and use the card I paid for:) Sorry for the rant:) But please, any help would be greatly appreciated from myself and my family. Thanks, MamaJama
  8. Hello, I am looking to see if anyone here wants to offer me a price on three GV800 4 CAM cards with at least 6.1 software. The last time I bought cards they tried to get me to buy from a "distributor" who turned out to be a competitor and I went with a differnt brand:) Just PM please. Thanks, MJ

    pc restarts

An ECS motherboard is about the worse brand you could have purchased. On top of the generic brand, it is a Via PX400 chipset which failed miserably in the market place because it was/is so slow and full of problems. With that said, it deifintely sounds like drivers, but maybe it is not the Geovision drivers, maybe it is the motherboards chipset drivers. Sis you use the same ones (maybe off the CD included as you did with the orginal install)? Or have you tried going to VIA's website and downloading the latest VIA drivers? On top of it, I think GeoVision does not support VIA chipsets, depsite the fact some have had no issues. Try www.via.com.tw to look for the latest drivers, but if not I think I would look to getting an intel 865/875 chipset motherboard and get the headaches over sooner rather than later. Let me know if this helps, MamaJama

    Prescott PSUs?

the extra heat from Prescott's are only partially from the processor. Most Socket 478 motherboards were not initially designed for Prescott processors. The onboard power inverters which convert the 5V rail to the 1.XX voltage needed by the various Prescott porcessors are often a bigger issue. They were not designed to handle the wattage at the lower voltage that the Prescott's run at. We have some $200 boards that will literally burn black marks into the boxes on the bench when running Prescott CPUs. No type of heatsink can remedy this. There is an "Intel" requirement that cases for Prescott's have a side port hole to ensure a fresh flow of cool air. In other words, the case needs 80mm+ case fans mounted preferable in the back and side blowing fresh air "IN" the case near the heatsink to help cool the board and processor. Also, PCI fans and 5 1/4 bay fans are mostly crap and will likely go bad early and cause noise problems which will just irritate your customer and require your attention. I am relatively new to the CCTV field, but my company has been into high end hardware for nine years. I will greatly give any advice needed as I will likely need a lot for CCTV:) Mamajama

    Prescott PSUs?

The new Prescott's generate a lot of heat compared to their counterparts the Northwood chips and on overall benchmarks, you need to be running higher than 3.6GHz before they are faster than Northwood processors. We will continue using Northwoods as long as we can. The socket 775's Prescott's are a newer stepping than the socket 478 Prescott's and run a bit cooler, but still hotter than the Northwood chips. Hope that helps, Mamajama
