  1. Set some traps, get another sign to put next to it, something flashy that will get attention/annoy the possible competitor and then have a handheld camera and wait that night and see if someone shows up if you have no other options. New objects may attract the vandal

Android TV boxes and non Swann apps.

On my phone, I use IP Cam Viewer, it's like $5 but it works well. There may be a trial or free version you can try first so that you aren't stuck buying an app that may not work for you. I see no reason why it wouldn't work, but just my thoughts.

    Robox rebadged Dahua?

What about if it has a network port, get it online, login through the computer on the web browser, and if the 888888 password works. Then while logged in through the web browser, change the password to something only alphabetical abc, etc.
  4. Have you set up port forwarding? First get it working from inside your own network, once that works, then proceed viewing it outside your network; cell phone, etc.
  5. Dahua is nice quality for the price, do NOT go with analog, I promise it will be a waste in multiple ways.
  6. Can anyone help me track down the cheapest/best priced 16 channel NVR with the best specs. I have been looking and I'm stuck, what I find is that model numbers aren't matching the specs they have listed, getting a correct answer from sellers is hard. Maybe some of you have recently purchased a Dahua NVR and can lend some good advice. I've sold some stuff and now I'm ready to order an NVR. Thanks everybody

    camera picture

I have some analog cameras that started doing that once they were going bad. (only about 14 months old) It happened out of nowhere and got worse of the next few weeks. I don't know if that's your issue, but it's something to consider.

Welcome back!! It's never too late to come back to something!
  10. I'll tell you this story from around 2002 of how great an Optima Yellow Top battery really is... Back in 2002 or so I was building a vehicle with a v8 350 engine, I had a yellow top battery for it. I had mistakenly hooked up the alternator incorrectly, so it was not charging the battery. I had (2) 10 inch subwoofers with an 800watt amp, also the starter for that vehicle was a more powerful after market starter. I had went 2 weeks, give or take a day starting that vehicle and running the audio system every day for about 2 weeks, until one day getting gas the vehicle would not start again. I got a jump from someone, went home figured out the issue of the alternator, charged the battery. Sadly, the battery died completely about 7 years later. Well worth the money. So the yellow top started my vehicle daily for 2 weeks, while running an audio system. I'd imagine you'd have no problems at all! Goodluck *edit, you may not need a bigger battery, but I was just originally throwing out the suggestion. It's a good backup just in case. I don't know what kind of weather you get, especially in winters. But you don't have to be worried about getting stuck somewhere because of a dead battery.
  11. I have 2 cameras like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/271401591185?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT They are running off a 12v 4a power supply, anything less and the LEDs are dimmer when plugged into a less powerful power supply. (yes, description says 12v 2a for each camera) Okay, my question is do HD IP cameras use less power than analog cameras? Because I was looking at a dahua NVR with 8 ports BUILT into the back of the NVR. The power supply for the NVR was 12v 4a, how can that power the NVR, plus 8 IP cameras? If I understand correctly, doesn't the one ethernet cable running to an IP camera have video/audio/power running through the one POE (ethernet) cable? I'm confused and curious, haha. I have 1 dauha HD IP Camera coming soon and was just doing some thinking. Thanks for the responses!
  12. Thanks, I'm not extremely worried about the power being run through the ethernet cable. As with my current cameras, I have a power wire run already. So with most IP cameras they have the barrel connector for powering them separate. I was just curious about it being all in 1 cable, that's great as long as they get sufficient power. I just hope the IR led's on IP Cameras will be as sufficient as the 84 IR leds on my analog cameras. If not, i'll add some illuminators, currely have an illuminator in the driveway.
  13. Thank you for the reply, I did forget about the 48v POE part of it also. This is the NVR I am looking at, can't order yet but planning everything out slowly. Dahua NVR4216-8P Megapixel 1080P 16 CH CHANNEL HD IP Network Security Surveillance CCTV Video Recorder NVR, 8 POE Ports Switch Build-in The longest run of ethernet cable for any of my cameras would be no more than 120feet. I was curious about it as it seemed odd about powering 8 cameras through the NVR, possibly being underpowered, but since I haven't had my hands on any of this new tech, I'm learning as I go. Thanks

Same picture on from two cameras ?

Yes, I had a feeling by what you described that you had 2.4ghz cameras and not IP cameras. There should be a switch to change either camera to a different channel, usually like 1,2,3, or 4 channels, or maybe even A,B,C,D etc. If the cameras do not have a channel switch, they are both operating on the same channel, so you can't use them at the same time. Cell phones, microwaves, and other things can easily interfere with 2.4ghz wireless cameras.
  15. Create a choke point and have a nice somewhat hidden fixed camera to capture it. Or, put up a camera where you can get a great image of the face somewhere. Set something out that you know the theif would be quite interested in, place it right in front of the camera where his face will be captured no matter, where he enters or whatever the situation.
  16. If this is any help at all, I believe once you've pretty much disabled all of the security on IE to install the plugin. I think you can re-enable it all again and the plugin still works, it's just the initial install. Just an aspect that may help your current situation. Hopefully someone else can answer your questions.
  17. Some have SD card slots built in, so you could have it record to the SD card and view the recordings remotely on the PC I believe.
  18. Sorry to hear about your situation, also for power, the "optima yellow top" car batteries are great deep cycle batteries. Not cheap but not really expensive, I run one in my everyday car. They are great batteries and would be helpful in this equation too I feel. Goodluck with the system! Info: http://www.autozone.com/miscellaneous-non-automotive/specialty-automotive-battery/optima-yellowtop-battery/467601_0_0/ Also, with your window tint, I believe you can get a doctors note for "darker window tint" Some have had it because of bright sun and eye issues. Just throwing that out there if it would help reduce the glare even more. (As you can install window tint on top of other window tint)

You say wireless, are they wifi, 800mhz, or 2.4ghz wireless?

    Lower Sub-Stream Bandwidth

Yes, try a different browser. I have had firefox stutter on flash videos from youtube on me, but I can play them no problem in chrome. Firefox has horrible memory leaks, but I'll be honest, I bet it is firefox as the above poster mentions. It even happens on my octacore desktop pc with 16gb ram, etc. Firefox is great, but has problems at times under certain conditions.
  23. Hey all, I'm looking to upgrade to some HD IP Cameras , I have an 8 channel analog system right now. They are 1200tvl 84 IR LED, 5mm lens. I already have cat6 cable run, but some have wifi built in (which would be temp to test with at the moment) Personal home setup, USA I am not looking to swap out completely right now, I want to purchase 1 camera at the moment just to play around with. I've seen some good suggestions for some cameras off aliexpress. I would like to eventually go to 12 cameras or 16, right now the 1 camera I'm looking for I am interested in a 3mm lens or 2.8mm lens option. I'm not interested in PTZ on my first camera, just wanting to get a good IP Camera with nightvision to compare and show off versus my analog cameras. Any of you want to share some links to cameras that are cheap, but quality also. I've had great experiences with "cheap" things from China over the years. I think I'm interested in hikvision based on my findings for price and quality. Or dahua is fine too Thanks everybody, once I get some recommendations I can probably piece together the rest later when I'm ready. I'm just not familiar on everything of the HD This was suggested to someone else in another thread, this may suit my needs for a couple of the cameras, still interested in other suggestions. http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Dahua-4Mp-IPC-HDBW4421R-AS-IP-camera-network-camera-DH-IPC-HDBW4421R-AS-Support-POE-Micro/638300_32396199848.html With this camera, what power supply do I need to temp run this? (something I'd like to be able to use in the future when I swap to a complete 12 or 16 camera setup)

Help me upgrade to HD IP Cameras

I would also like a NVR that has a beeper psychically built into it so that when motion or such is detected, that the NVR unit beeps out loud. My current analog DVR does this with a little piezo buzzer, I have it set for motion detection on certain cameras (which alerts me to when someone comes onto my property) and also when video is lost on any camera (unplugged or being tampered with) I would imagine that's a common thing for most NVR/DVR units, but I could be wrong. I'm trying to research everything, but it's hard until you physically get your hands on the tech and start fooling with it. I'm pretty knowledgeable with analog stuff, but this newer tech is something new to learn. Thanks
