check into a "construction camera". Satellite? The uplink is what sucks about it.usually equal to dial-up 56kbs. Downlink is around 1500kbs. But, if your house is worth it, spend the money on satellite because it will work. All you need to do is connect it and you'll have a viewable video security system that will baby sit for you. I'd make the camera's VERY obvious and I would remote the hard drive storage to make sure you have the evidence when someone walks off with the DVR. To save you money you could just buy 1 decent network PTZ, connect to satellite, and record the images on a FTP site. Have the PTZ perform a "roam". A second network cam would be nice to have at the main entrance, very visible. Add some "fakes" and signs and you should be a hard target vice a soft. Also, check with satellite and the ports they allow passed BEFORE you buy. If all it offers is port 80 then you only have one port to send up on.

you'd be smarter, and fair, to get 2 more quotes from your local area. Then compare them. The national average for a camera install was 1300 per camera....BUT, area and cost of living makes a huge difference in how much to charge/pay And, ask for a detailed quote. If they are good they will provide it with no problems, and, you should get a detailed anyway so that you are aware of the equipment/quality BEFORE you agree. I am not affraid to provide more when requested and I don't mind if I am compared to others. My rep preceeds me and my prices are fair. Everyone else seems to be affraid of my style but I don't care because there are lots of installers out there to play against each other. Go for it. oh, and it goes beyond the total price. Warranty? Follow on support is free for the first year, parts and labor? 24/7 repair hotline? REFERENCES? Turn around time to repair? Many issues you need tolook at before you say the price is high or low. Hidden costs?

not really Rory. Capitalism has proven to allow for commercial growth that easily passes Goverment "control". Most US "trunks" are leased from commercial and not owned by the Goverment. Big Goverment "business" are money hungry, il managed, and wasteful. Believe it or not Rory, this will eventually end up killing any Goverment owned biz. The problem is money and where it ends up. Sooner or later a smart guy will get elected that will allow for the commercial businesses to grow and then he will tax the heck out of them. Death and taxes Baby!

nicer? easier? Not really. CAT5 cabling involves more equipment in the "chain" of the video signal and is therefore more probe to failures. And, for CAT5 to work well with a video signal you ned to buy good CAT5 and good Baluns. ie....active Balun's are better than passive becasue they filter out unwanted signals better and they have no signal loss.....but are more expensive. CAT5 is also more prone to signal interference. RG cable works, looks great, and is easy to maintain. Bulky? I don't see it that way since everywhere I run cables there is always room for more, and when you terminate the video at the camera you don't have a Balun to hide/worry about. On the down side RG is limited to a 200ft distance. Some have pushed it further but I won't. And I do use Balun's where the install calls for it. ie.....a 500ft. camera run. neater and easier iare not one of my top 3........I go for pic quality, equipment durability, and client ease of use on my top 3. Neatness and easier follow these........... hope this helps

I recommend the the IP910 found at http://www.cctvimports.com. Nice bullet/IR camera for the money. Budget DVR? I suggest a 4 channel Eclipse, Nubix type. Cheap and work very good. Eclipse also has the 4 channel 12vdc power supply. You shoud be able to get all this above for approx. $1400.00 delivered. Just buy/install cable and you'll be recording billybob doing his thing. oh, I'd also set him up. Once he see's the camera's he will do something out of camera view for sure. Buy 2 camera's, hidden if possible, and set his butt up for failure. If he is a butthead he will try to get around the video and when he does you can catch him in the act. Once you catch him he'll leave you alone.

I just figured out something tonight that will hopefully help you all out. I was playing with a bullet low light IR camera that had a "halo" effect. I always wanted to figure out why. Well, I played with different lenses, different cleaning solutions, mounting, ect. and never got rid of the "halo" until tonight. All I did was move the sun shield back so that the IR did NOT reflect off of it back into the lense/lense glass. Freak'n worked in a second. Hope this helps. Please post any results. I'm removing all/any sunshields I have to eliminate this problem. I have a before and after clip if you want to see the results. PM me.

they were different crands, not just one manyfacture. I guess it amazes me that one manufacture will apply a nonreflective coating the some won't, and the differences can make or break repeat sales, unless you correct the sun shield issue. What type of coating is used? Anyone know.....

nope. pc needs an ip and the dvr needs one 2. peer to peer is not an option.

24vac is better on longer runs, beyond 200ft. Beyond 500ft I'd go with 28vac to make up for the drop. Active Baluns work best. Any noise on the video can be blocked via a ground loop isolator. Observe the "line seperation" rule and you won't get noise. seperation of 1ft. along side or 6 inches on a cross Bottom Line; buy great baluns and you won't have a prob with noise. Buy $20 specials and you'll get a $20 pic. Do go cheap, invest.

there is mention of reducing % by removing uneeded "services" or programs. Can you list your research and results here? How did you remove them, or did you just set it not to load? ie; mm_tray.exe MusicMatch Jukebox Traybar not needed, removed and is it not true that some programs may load and lay "dormant" won't use system resources (cpu) until run? what is the best way to streamline the server?

tint? are u talking about the window tint like on cars? The sheet film? If so, what % of film do you use? Rory....ring does make a difference. The decent ones are soft rubbery plastic and the bad one is a foam type which deteriorates over time. Rain? I only see a sun shield as a sun shield, nothing less. Rain is going to get onto the camera shield anyway. It might protect a small percentage but it will get the lense wet. Maybe we need a bullet with wipers? Rory.is there a Mercedes CCTV camera out there yet? Is there a paintable or film like substance that could be applied to the underneath surface of the shield to eliminate the reflection? In anycase it worked out and now that I got rid of the ring the pics are even better and I have a new respect for bullets.....as I thought I would never use them because of the halo issue.

PC based will be around longer from a perspective of upgrading. A standalone is limited in upgrades and most likely will be replaced with newer technology by means of total replacement. PC based can be upgraded anytime and in my opinion is more cost effective. But, standalones still have one thing over PC based. You can't operate them to death............

nice idea but I wonder how well it will work if the tester is biased. Maybe a nice "thing" to have is a upload site where we can upload pics to so that the forum has a collection of pics, systems, ect.? I'm not into FTP'n my stuff out because it makes my site(s) a target. I'd show more if I had a safe place to upload and call from.

by design pal has a larger bandwidth, therefore a better pic due to MORE resolution/definition. BUT, if your eye can see it and pick it out of a line up you are perfect. The eye most likely will not see the difference. Bottom line, both are of a standard that produces the best pic available based on technology. Yes the standard could be 100% HDTV across the US but how would someone on a fixed budget afford the high price of connecting/owning. Availibility and supply demand is the key here. If you go with PAL in the US your are adding problems from the start since EVERYTHING here is NTSC. The who is better don't matter as long as it works well and looks great. now with vodka, there is adifference worth buying.......

Do you have a good "line of site" to the gate from the house? I'd hang a decent low light outdoor PTZ with great zoom and record 24/7. Just guessing, need to know more; - lighting? - any power at the camera location? - can you run any wire, underground? you'll need at a minium; 4 channel DVR, outdoor camera and enclosure(highres low light varifocal) this will cost you atleast 500 or more and it's not wireless yet. god wireless "might" make that distance but you may need better. I'd wire it, pay for the ditch diggers because in the long run, no punn intended, it will last longer and look better. ps...your budget is not realistic. Unless you spend the money for decent equipment you won't get decent results. X10, cheap Dlink, Walmart, ect., all have something to fill the requirement but you won't be happy with the result.

check your other post.....................I recommended Video Insight VJ120, a 16 channel card. Why do you "want" 320? Most people over purchase on FPS cards and need beyond a P4 3.0 to power it at higher resolutions. If you push lower resolutions your are wasting your money on the fps/res and high res/fps eats CPU power.

I build and install Video Insight sustems and can pass you a login/password to go view a couple different systems currently online now or you can view the demo at the web site. Camera's; The best way to go is to buy extreme camera' but your budget may end quick as they are expensive. Middle of the road; I like the IP9100 (bullet, high res, vari, mech filter, & IR ) as it is under $300.00 and provides a decent pic both day and night. I'd also recommend a dome as you can get a decent one for under 1000 that will give you a very nice pic and provide you more coverage/views for your buck. Low end.......eclipse camera's. HIM-598 is good enough for anyone with 200 and it gives a nice pic. If want seperate IR and camera I'd go with the DC-793WC-AV-X for around 220 and the IR-60M.
