    Hey everybody, meet my good friend/brother Joe........also a retired "jarhead". He was my SNCOIC for many years until he got sick of me and then he submitted my WO package to get rid of me..........avoided me ever since I got selected.............

    I always look for the KISS way of doing things. Ya don't need a dang grenade to kill a mouse, eh?

     

    But I guess I could spend my cliets money also and overlook the simple $15 dollar solution.............

    I'm not kidding........buy them, and then have your client call the police to REPORT person(s) breaking the liter laws...........EVERY dang day! He can then point out to the Police that he installed the trash cans and that he now expects the police to monitor the people who break the law.

     

    makes sense if you look at it from a simple perspectve...........if the police are ticketing him for "trash" he can have the same expectation from the police to uphold ALL the laws, not just the one in front of them..

    all you need is a simple 12VDC & 24VAC tester.........and most cheapies come with more. I use the chep of cheapest out of Harborfrieght tools since I loose them or forget where they are...........less than $10 a copy

    I sell & install both. Aver is a budget and VideoInsight is coorporate level. My clients are impressed with Video Insight's ease of integration and overall use.

     

    $80.00 ???? don't get that comment. You normally get what you pay for, ok?

     

    Also remember that the total package equals the overal quality. If your going to go coorporate then buy coorporate level camera's. Mega pizel cams are great but like analog cams you have to buy the right camera for the right location/lighting. ie. most IP megapixel cams deliver only 8fps at at the highest resolution. If you want a true 30fps megapixel you'll pay mucho dollar fot it. Unless you have a actual requirement for a 30fps camera I'd recommend you stay with the 8fps and be happy.

     

    I just installed a 17 IP mega pixel camera system with Video Insight IP software.......client loves it and the pics are crazy clean. In my opinion, hardware cards are soon to be overrun by IP software since the quality of the ip software is equal to and/or better than, cpu is lower, and money saved can be applied to decent ip cameras.

     

    I like the Acti ACM-7411 as my overall good to go ip mega pixel camera. works great with Video Insight's IP software and support is also great.

     

    Keep in mind that the better megapixel the more storage & cpu processing required.

     

    Avermedia? also works with Acti cams but the pic is not as clean....and Avermedia is klunky in terms of reviewing, copying, saving, video as compared to Video Insight. It works, you just have to go thru more steps to get there.

     

    Video Insight is developed on a Microsoft sql frame which allows you to manipulate easier since we are all Microsoft minded.....same type of screen layouts with typical look and feel of Microsoft.so getting around is as easy as click and go.

     

    bottomline......budget. you get what you pay for.......

    you ned to built it backwards. start with your storage requirement; 30 days? 10? 7? then calc the number of cams storage rate(s) to get you storage numbers. If your looking at 2mp and higher you'll need a large bucket.

     

    i like to design ip/nvr to the best bang for the buck. lot's of 1.3mp cams available under $1000 (Arecont 3130, acti 7411, ect.), some under $500 (axis 207mw). not all cameras are alike. ie. the 207mw is decent for well lit areas but sucks in low light. Arecont 3130 is all around decent, along with the Acti 7411. your budget will drive your purchase. and, you need to apply the right camera (capabilities) into the proper location(s).

     

    then you have to pick a decent nvr software manufacture. I use Video Insight for my high end corp installs and avermedia for budget. again, budget & requirements drive the bus..............

    there are a few HD IP cams available now.....and I'd see if any nvr manufactures can add one?

     

    I use Video Insight and it works great......installing another system now as I type

     

    I looked at a Panasonic HD IP camera to use in video production stuff where you can capture HD production video atand control it all from your finger tips...no video camer operators.....just HD IP cams feeeding recorders, small foot print, POE connections or wireless........kinda a pet project in my head.....

     

    what your requirements need is money and if you have a unlimited budget you can make it happen.......and if it were me I'd stick to a Manufacyure that will provide the support you need..........Video Insight still, IMHO, has the best support.......period. They are on the higer side of the price but you get what you p

    It's a video card thing and I had to upgrade to a better card as per avermedia. obviously aver improved the software but along the wqay a few video cards were left behind.

     

    I guess you can' improve software and keep all legacy systems or parets in the front line. sooner or later the old is replaced by the new.

     

    patchs will work but they may not include all..more specific patch vice general.

    you should be connected into your RCA video input on the LCD then you can change the source input to the LCD via the remote to the video input.

     

    setting the aspect & resolution is done via remote.but, if you switch to the video input it should goto a standard resolution.

    as long as the cameras are bnc connectors you can replace the old vcr with a new digital................

     

    then worry about the camera's.....and possibly new cable.

    - do you have siamese cable? power & video.

    - power supply is what voltage?

    - old camera power connectors are? new uses 2.1mm barrel type

    - bnc twist on or crimped?

     

    I'd put a new power supply in that has PTC type resetabble fuses....not the glass barrell fused type. then I'd swap out camera's & cable as you can.

     

    I've done this type of "upgrade" and it's fairly easy as long as your current cameras are capable of connecting over to the new digital dvr.

    welcome home........

     

    IP systems are fun to install eh?

     

    Your 20TB Server is running RAID6? 50 IP cams? Megapixel or standard? 50 IP cams on 20TB is on the small side for 30 days?

     

    I'm doing a 16 megapixel system with Scorp in June.....we teamed up and the overall system is "hot". (16) Acti ACM-7411's, (2) Video Insight IP servers, and a 3TB RAID5. the (2) POE switchs are Netgear with a Gig network connection...ports are 10/100. I already have these same systems running in multiple Gov. locations and they are all very stable and crisp. The storage is small but they wanted 3TB......

     

    funny thing about Gov. jobs is they write a rfp with little or no knowledge of the complete system and then when I submit a bid I have to stick to that rfp as written OR I will put my bid on a seperate level than requested. Once I win the bid I then make some changes only if I can get the client to rethink my change. Most times they listen and authorize the change............sometimes the buidget won't allow any change.

     

    I also ALWAYS upgrade the equipment when I can at NO expense to my clients. ie. I'll spec out what they want at and then quote it. The bid selection usually takes 2 - 3 months follwoed by another month or 2 of scheduling things. When I order the "parts" for the system I can usually get a better CPU, camera, or ect. for the same money I quoted so I just upgrade as necessary.

     

    My only issues with IP Megapixel systems is the amount of storage required.......it's very expensive. So, the camera installers have to have a very GOOD background in camera placement to reduce false motion possibilities and the software has to handle motion issues via multiple software tools like masking, blocking, sensitivity, ect. Otherwise you'll end up with 30Gig of motion per day from a single camera which is full of windy, rainy, vehicle lights, and all other sorts of false motion.

     

    Motion software is a wide open area where the developers need to focus on improving motion recognition/orientation of objects. This will reduce storage and improve all.

     

    Another area that needs to be improved is in the archiving of the original video. Old techniques work great but now that megapixel cameras are here I can't find a archive program that will go beyone copying the original video.....I need it to take a megapixel video file and reduce it by frames...not just copy it.

     

    Other than.I'm a happy man.

    when "scraping" together CCTV systems you sometimes win and sometimes loose........Good Time Charlie Sings The Blues!

     

    Helping you with this problem is like tryimg to put a puzzel together in a closet..........you might get it together but the picture maybe a bit wrong in some places. Your trying to use a "new" card in a "old" system and Avermedia will tell you that "it's NOT recommended" because it's NOT recommended. I do appreciate budget systems but when it comes to recommended hardware you need to expect poor results.

     

    Your comment that you got the NV5000 because it is a decent card and then you kinda slight Avermedia because your having issues..........your creating the issues, not Avermedia................get it?

     

    We can recommend all sorts of possible solutions but we always start at the basics;

    - update ALL drivers

    - spec hardware for compatability

    - read the manual

    - search the web for possible help

    - buy some more beer and then post your issues here

     

    I'm not trying to slam you but I think Avermedia cards are pretty decent for the money spent and I learned a long time ago that if you build a system with scraps you end up with a scraped system.......
