  1. Thanks for your opinion. I bought bought both 720 and 1080 Hikvision Turbo HD cameras. Honestly, the image is basically the same. I suggest not wasting your money on 1080 as those cameras cost almost twice as much.
  2. For 1000' of Belden wire mentioned above, the cost with shipping is easily $200+. What price point should I expect to pay for 1000' of good, general RG59 18/2 cable (non CCA, etc.)? I'm seeing pricing range from $80-120.
  3. Belden looks great, all copper. But twice the cost of other cables. What are some of the cheaper options? Seems like solid copper RG59, with CCA shielded 18awg is ok for most mid range applications. Any other options besides Belden?
  4. First install coming up soon. Looking for a reliable brand of RG59, 18/2 Siamese cable, with braided shielding, etc. Not sure who to trust....don't want to be stuck with low quality cable (CCA for example). Any recommended brands? Any online sources?
  5. Thanks guys. One question. These cameras by Hikvision are listed as either requiring 5w or 7w. Amp needs are not given but all owner supplies list total Amps and Amps per channels. Am I right to use Amps = Watts divided by Volts to figure out Amps needed? So in my case, 16 cameras would need a power supply of at least 8 Amps, and 1 Amp per channel (12v)? I will use 18/2 standard cable with runs under 200 feet.
  6. Hi, doing first time install. A mix of 16 Hikvision 720p and 1080p HD-TVI cameras using a Hikvision 7200 series DVR. I believe the 720p cameras are 12v while the 1080p cameras as dual voltage (12v and 24v). I believe I should get a 12vDC power supply, but I see many options for AMPS. 10AMP, 12AMP, even 29AMP. I'm leaning towards the 29AMP, 12vDC like the one linked below. Will this work? Any other specific recommendations for power supply? http://www.amazon.com/InstallerCCTV-Output-Distributed-Supply-Security/dp/B00BBKCJ16/ref=cm_sw_em_r_sdptod_Oic8wb1131PF4_tt
  7. Thanks for the reply. What does the fps really mean....does it mean that 1080p video image will be higher quality but the recording will be "choppy"? Also, can I mix 1080p and 720p cameras using the same DVR?
  8. Does the the Hikvision 7200 series DVR (HD-TVI) take advantage of 1080p cameras? Or stick with 720p camera? Example cameras: Hikvision DS-2CE56C5T-VFIT3 (720p) vs. Hikvision DS-2CE56D5T-VFIT3 (1080p) DVR: Hikvision DS-7216HGHI-SH

HD-TVI DVR Huviron or Hikvision ?

Can you please elaborate why Huviron SK-NAD16 is way better? Better UI, reliability, options?
  11. Folks, is the Hikvision DS-7216HGHI-SH DVR any good compared to others? Sorry for the noobie question but do these have online or iPhone/Android mobile viewing capability?
  12. Hi y'all. Designing a new 16 channel HD-TVI based system. I have only seen two brands that make the DVR -- LTS and Alibi. Any others? Not many reviews online so looking for opinions here on: Installation ease, including online app User interface Reliability Thanks.
  13. Great points. Yes there is conduit between the buildings. But still, that's a reason for the 2 DVRs I presume. If I use 2 DVRs the install seems quite easy, esp for IP system. Is there a limit on how far the camera can be from the NVR? If there is, how do resolve that problem? Some sort of booster in the cat5?
  14. Thanks. The above quote was a shocking $8k without monitors or computer. Budget is $4k. Any other specific recommendations? What is "HD control"? Thanks again
