    FPS vs. IPS

Data, great observations man... You can ask anyone if they know the differences, if any, between these keywords, most of them will look at you with a puzzled face.. What is very interesting when you read specs from DVR manufacturers, they use these terminology keywords and to really put them on the spot, I ask them to explain and they all give me, well a very dirty look... I am still curious G22's explanation for DPS (Dongles Per second) Levon

    FPS vs. IPS

There is now (4) different ways someone can describe DVR resolutions... 1. FPS - (Frames Per Second) 2. FPS - (Fields Per Second) 3. IPS - (Images Per Second) 4. PPS - (Pictures Per Second) Looks like we are making headways... Levon

    ISC EAST SHOW 2005

Man, just got a notification that I have to be in Seattle Washington and then Portland Oregon that week and then heading to Florida... Shut... May be some other time Guys, since some of you will be together, take some pictures please?
  7. Rory, I can offer you a Rooster for the price of chickens I concur - no problems with their DVRs. With the recent SDVR series, man, it is good stuff.. May seem costly, but is it??? With 3 years warranty and it works! I'd like to see DM try (and I am sure it will fail) to match up at any level Levon
  8. Yup, it works just fine... Levon

Data, This is a Vandal Resistence Mini-Domes series and they all have 1/4" 470TVL cameras and the only difference is the lenses with different F stops as follows: LTC 1462/20 - Bosch LTC 1462-20 VANDAL RESISTANT CAMERA FLEXIDOME XT 1/4" 470 TVL COLOR 12VDC-24VAC 60Hz. w-2-4mm LENS LTC 1461/20 - Bosch LTC 1461-20 VANDAL RESISTANT CAMERA FLEXIDOME XT 1/4" 470TVL COLOR 12VDC-24VAC 60Hz w-2.8-6mm F1.4 VARIFOCAL AI LENS LTC 1464/20 - Bosch LTC 1464/20 VANDAL RESISTANT CAMERA FLEXIDOME XT 1/4" 470 TVL COLOR 12VDC/24VAC60Hz, w/4-9mm F1.4 VARIFOCAL AI LENS Here is the PDF formated spec sheet that gives even more details: http://reliablecctv.com/alt_pdfs/Bosch%20LTC%201464-20%20VANDAL%20RESISTANT%20CAMERA%20FLEXIDOME%20XT%201-4%20inch%20470%20TVL%20COLOR%2012VDC-24VAC%2060Hz.%20w-4-9mm%20F1.4%20VARIFOCAL%20AI%20LENS.pdf Levon

    1/2 Mile Run

Yes and no... It actually a impedence matching circuitry, rather amplificagtion.. I know that it does amplify the signal (all the cameras do), but in this case, they have a very unique circuitry that measure the impedence and compensates for it... Levon

    1/2 Mile Run

This is correct again and it works excellent... but I am surprised that our friend in Australia doesn't know how this happens? Unlike most of the cameras out there, this series and most of the domes from Bosch (high end that is) come with a very special feature (mostly programmable via Blinx) to program the camera with its necessitiies, i.e. specially with type of cable that you may want to use, i.e. Coax, etc... Well, this feature automatically corrects the impedance missmatch at both end of the cables, thus allowing to transfer the video without any loss. As you know, increase of any cable length increases resistance, thus increases overall impedance, therefore effects the picture quality over 1,000' for most cameras. However, in this case with this built in feature, it automatically "measures" such impedance and the compensates such losses by increasing or decreasing automatic gain control and matches the impedence levels at both ends... Bosch does not like to say how they do it, but I know this works and we have used its features in quite of few large warehouse applications. We did not use any video amplifiers or any doublers, rather streight run to the domes and cameras.. IT WORKS! Levon

    Kalatel Digia DVR

Did not have a chance to take it apart yet - just had an opportunity to play with it and received very good responses on our tests with our customers... IT IS SHMINDOWS XP EMBEDDED.... - At least that is what the specs stated... Will have more info when it is ready to ship in mid-August... Levon

    1/2 Mile Run

Actually, I will concur with our friend from Australia. I beleive 1,000 meters is roughly 3,000' or more... We have tested this camera with cat5e connection and with passive baluns over 2,500' (not quite 3,000') (no amplification of any sort) and the results were exceptional... with Bilinx, made our jobs even easier.... SensUp actuall does work fairly good... Just make sure you have an excellent 1/2" lens, otherwise the results will not be as good... Levon

    Kalatel Digia DVR

I have looked and sold both. I myself liked Kalatel then and GE Security now... After a year of major problems with DM's quality issues (over 50% failure rates drove us to extreme), we basically dropped them across the board.. Digia initally came as a 4 channel DVR with 120FPS view and record box... The problem was that you did not have remote playback capability, rather just remote view as it happens... 2 weeks ago, they updated the firmware (with some push from our end) and now with the same box, you can playback video remotely... Excellent video quality and excellent performer. What GE did was that they took the same MPEG-4 compression and incorporated in their latest SDVR series and a different model and the response from our customers were great. I also know that all their product lines will have this technology eventually - they just have not figured out yet how they can market it with so many different models... I think they will have this technology based system to be more expensive and push the pricing lower on the older models, even though the only difference will be the type of or version of the bios. Overall, great performers... similar to all our Bosch DVRs and specially their latest DIBOS, which I am told is available in US mid-August.... We already seen and had some of our customer tested and they all loved them... We should be putting 4 of these units in a department store within next 30 days (if they become available that is...) Kalatel Digia DVR

Rory, You know it man.... DM does have a good marketing team, however their product quality has dropped over the year as they increase their productions and with over 50% failure rates, we dropped them too... Levon

    Need a camera

You obviously have a lot to choose from... so many manufacturers and so many different products... You do not need "high end" camera equipment, rather fairly priced with excellent picture quality. Every manufacturer has a "solution", the question always is the cost vs. quality of the picture vs. warranty... Any camera equipment you buy that comes with less than 3 years warranty should not qualify for a purchase! For a similar setup, we used several type of cameras - i.e. Mini-Domes with 480TVL color resolution and with autoiris varifocal lenses and with 480TVL fixed cameras with autoiris varifocal lenses. The most cost effective equipment so far is from Ganz. Here are some to choose from: 1. MiniDome: http://www.cbcamerica.com/cctvprod/ganz/cams/domeCams/DomePDF/zcd6000_cut.pdf 2. Fixed camera with wide dynamic range - http://www.cbcamerica.com/cctvprod/ganz/cams/csmount/csm_pdf/CamZC_Y30NH4.pdf 3. 3.5-8.0mm autoiris lens: http://www.cbcamerica.com/cctvprod/computar/vari/vari_pdf/TG2Z3514FCS-2.PDF All these components come with full 3 years warranty! Combination of any of these components will run much lower in costs than what you are budgeting... By the way, great choice on GE DVR... Can not get any better and easier to operate... Levon

    Kalatel Digia DVR

CSG, Digia is based on MPEG-4 compression. The earlier versions did not give you remote playback on video... The latest version (came about less than 2 weeks ago) comes with the full playback feature... Make sure you have the latest Digia regardless where you get them. Ask for the manufacturing date and if it is longer than 2 weeks, do not buy it, as the latest one comes with the latest and greatest firmware and most importantly, video playback remotely.. If they tell you that you can flash the memory with newer firmware, tell them to keep it and to give you the newest unit... Digia comes with 120FPS for 4 channels and if you program it correctly, we potentially can record in a real time 30FPS per port... Here is the spec sheet if you need more info: http://www.ge-consultantlink.com/Docs/digia_prd.pdf Digia or any GE DVRs do kick DM's ass at the moment and always will... DM is crap and stay away if you can... Levon
