CAT 7 cable is PHAT! Siemon makes a nice system. I wonder where Leviton is with their CAT7 solution?
-
CAT 7 is quite a change. All pairs are individually shielded and the hardware is not the RJ form factor we are use to. And those that missed it, CAT6a is different then CAT6 in a major way. CAT6a supports 10GBASE-T at 100m!! It also sweeps to 500MHz vs 250MHz on CAT6. Hey Mike, I priced 6a awhile back and cable was somewhat more then 5e and the jacks were almost double the cost of 5e. I can't remember the cost of patch panels but it didn't seem to far out of line with CAT6. (all leviton 10G stuff) My prices vary because I tru-bid each job but it usually ballparks at about 150.00 a drop (5e) and that doesn't include MDF build-out. After hearing the pricing you are finding I am wondering if the pricing I got was wrong? I may reprice that again to see what they say...

power supply question...
C7 in CA replied to whitemotel's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Technically no, well I mean it does matter but should work either way. Best practice would be to land the black wire on the hot and white wire on the neutral green wire on the ground. Usually the brass colored screw on your plug is hot and the silver colored screw is neutral and green screw is ground. (Yes attach the ground too) I would get a 3 prong plug that has the cord already attached. Then you just make the connections inside the power supply. I'm not really liking the look of that plug attached to individual wires like that. It is probably a code violation too. At a minimum at least wrap those wires in a spiral fashion with electrical tape. (But I'd get the other cord type.) -
Nice links! I have one: http://www.cablingbusiness.com/ Cabling Business Magazine. I look forward to it every month. It's free, and it does have CCTV articles pretty regularly.

1U rack mountable DVR security case
C7 in CA replied to SanDiegoPCHelp's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Is 1U as tall as you can go? The reason I ask is because 1U is like 1.75". Do you have a DVR that will fit in that? -
If you can find something he can understand that is great. Your best bet is probably as jeromephone mentioned. Talk to the companies that make cardlock equipment. But if you can't find a system he understands is that a bad thing? I rely on my "Moves, Adds, and Changes" service calls. It's the icing on the cake.

Sentinel CCTV I cannot remote view video on PC
C7 in CA replied to rtts2's topic in Computers/Networking
Yeah, I got the impression he was trying from the LAN so I wouldn't think ports or DMZ would be an issue yet. He did try new patch cables but didn't mention if a different port on the switch was tried. I would run Angry IP Scanner. It's a free small utility that will scan your whole network. Great for finding "lost" devices. I don't think you will find the DVR but I would run it anyway. Just to see... -
Nuvico can not match up with ExtremeCCTV hardware... C-mon guys... I haven't used either camera. I'm just going by specifications listed. Hence the quotes around "Specs" in my first reply. They look legit. I just went to google shopping and searched for "WZ16 Extreme CCTV" and followed the cheapest price. Same company carries the Nuvico. Prices are good from what I have seen. Ah, gottcha. That would explain the pricing.

Sentinel CCTV I cannot remote view video on PC
C7 in CA replied to rtts2's topic in Computers/Networking
I'm not familiar with the products. My guess is a hardware problem if you can't even ping it. Sounds like you know something about networking so if you feel you have it configured as specified in the manual it's up to tech support now. If they are slow to respond then that should be your answer regarding whether they are worthy of your business. To put it in perspective I assisted a colleague in installing a Bosch DiBos and we ended up having to restore the OS twice right out of the box before it would store configuration settings. Now that may have been an XP thing but just goes to show you even high end stuff can have issues out of the box. Good luck! -
I found a site that has the Extreme 6 bucks cheaper then the Nuvico. The "Specs" seem better for the Nuvico. More vari in the focal and such. Something else to keep in mind is Extreme is only putting half as much IR on the camera as Nuvico (or nuvico is just using smaller lamps? ) . Is that a consideration?

Sentinel CCTV I cannot remote view video on PC
C7 in CA replied to rtts2's topic in Computers/Networking
You said you ping the network and it doesn't show up. Just to confirm, you are pinging the DVR? Do you have a link light between the switch and the DVR? Even if you do have lights try changing patch cables and a different port on the switch. The PC you are trying to view the DVR from is working on the network? Can you ping the router? It sounds like you are on the right track, but something is not quite right. Have you power cycled the DVR after making network changes? I don't know that it is required, but it could help. I have made a lot of money over the years just power cycling networked devices! -
I use these for license plate recognition!! LOL! There ya go bragg'n about your high end installs again!

IP Info and Setup
C7 in CA replied to protecvideo's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
unfortunately Ethernet is only 100 meters (328 feet). And you would have to do the math on the voltage drop at those distances. You can simply extend that distance by adding a switch in the middle. (hopefully into an IDF or a phone closet) But that is another failure point to worry about. Also you can easily get 500 feet with Optical Fiber but you have the added cost of terminating glass and buying media converters. I have run Ethernet 500 feet with success in the past but I wouldn't recommend it. -
I've had clients that wouldn't leave their store prior to me installing systems with remote view. Sure they can see what happened the next day and take corrective actions. But these guys are passionate about what they do. They insist on preventing issues before they become problems; not simply fixing it after the fact. Now one of them I know personally feels comfortable only working 12 hours a day instead of 16. And if you are going to showcase what the cameras are seeing to employees and customers you better have all your bases covered. Whether they are good guys or a bad guys they are going to size up the system and look for weak spots. Interesting discussion!

DVR's that don't require Active-X ?
C7 in CA replied to cairnwalker's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I don't know if it's java, but I remembered reading this about video insight: -
Present for me? Thanks buddy! I can't wait! Do you have a tracking number? Sorry we missed you msnancy. I'm not sure where the welcoming committee was on your post. I'm usually much to lazy to post here in introductions. I just happen to see mention of Florida and couldn't pass up an opportunity to jab at my buddy scorpion As far as I can see all people are welcome here including Chinese. As a matter of fact there are many Chinese members here. So Welcome to the forums!

Sounds like they aren't taking pictures. Just using video analytics. I dislike advertising as much as the next guy. But if I am going to be bombarded with it anyway I prefer it be "targeted" towards my demographic. I'd rather be served up an ad for big screen TV's then an ad for feminine hygiene products.

Another Floridian?!? Oh boy, there goes the neighborhood.... Just kidd'n. I like you Florida guys. Welcome to the forum!

Check out ustream.tv . They stream live video and foot the bill for the bandwidth. I've heard you can embed the stream into your site like with youtube too.

To 7 different cameras? Ouch! that'll take the profit out of a job...

Where's the fun in that?

8 ch DVR problem-any suggestions pl
C7 in CA replied to muneeb138's topic in Digital Video Recorders
For example we do this exact thing regarding access to the server room for one client. The camera is looking down a hallway recording continuously at 7.5 fps but when motion is detected at the server room doorway recording is bumped up to 30fps. Another advantage is the motion recordings are "flagged" and easier to search through then hours and hours of simple continuous recordings. I like to record continuous for peace of mind knowing I will at least capture something if motion detection fails or is foiled somehow. Even if at a low framerate. -
I've never done it, but you should check out places like http://rentacoder.com (There are probably many sites like that) Rentacoder.com has a program called "Safe Project Escrow" which sounds like what you want to look for when hiring a programmer.
