Well, At least he hit the overhang Before he signed the loan papers! The "No Video" screen is classic. I wonder what killed the video? Camera damage? Power loss? Cable damage?
  3. What other troubleshooting did you try? Did you try bypassing the long cables and connect the cameras directly to the DVR?

Iphone Apps for cctv and security systems

Oh, but no way to view it natively on the Iphone? This is what caught my attention on their IP7138 page: http://www.vivotek.com/products/cameras/network_camera_ip7138.php

Do you know why that is? Vivotek claims 3G support.
  7. The spec actually calls for 22 to 24 AWG wire. Thanks for the clarification. So yeah, if bigger gauge wire is what you are after you should check the manufacturers spec...

    cat 5 cctv cable

I will have to pull a certified test and look. It shows the different length of the pairs in a single cable. But from what I remember a 100+ ft run of 5e all the pairs were within 1 or 2 percent of each other. The difference in length is the varied twist rate from what I can tell. Next time I'm thinking of it I will check the test result length compared to the cable jacket marker... Edit: here's what I show on a random test result: Superior Essex 5e pair 1 (4,5) 107' pair 2 (1,2) 104' pair 3 (3,6) 108' pair 4 (7, 105' it labels the cable as 104'

    cat 5 cctv cable

It's true if you just go by the published Cat 6 specifications. But if you look at the manufacturers specs you will find many manufacturers use 23 gauge conductors instead of 24 in their CAT6. In most applications that probably doesn't make a big difference; But the bigger gauge wire does translate to less voltage drop. That could make a difference in some installs.

Way to go Rory! He's always had my vote. I mean, I've even got the same tattoo as that old lady...

IT people will find this funny

    That was funny.
  12. The way I read your post that sounds right. What splitter are you going to use? All the splitters I have seen with 2 inputs have amps built in.

THATS! why all my yellow toner is getting used up all the time! I thought I was going crazy...
  14. Me too. Especially RG-6 and above. I can only find solid copper core as special order around here. DigitalSource, are you going to power the cameras locally or do you have to send power 1000 feet too? As far as monitoring for the guard house, Does the house have computer network access? Easiest way would be to pick a DVR with good networking features and set up access for the guard house.

Someone has been holding out on us!!!!

Thanks, I'm pretty new to cookies but I've been in distribution off and on for a long time. I'll still be pulling cable for the foreseeable future. It's just nice to diversify.

Someone has been holding out on us!!!!

Swing on by, You're welcome to sample to goods! You'll have like 100 varieties to try. Cookies on the right, Crackers on the left!
  17. It has been my experience that an orange link light is for a 10Mbps connection instead of a typical 100Mbps connection. That alone shouldn't keep you from pinging it, But 10Mbps only network cards are rare now a days. I would try a different patch cable, different port on the router, and if all else fails I would try a crossover cable and connect directly to a PC. If all that fails and you feel the networking is set up correctly (all you need is the IP address and Subnet correct to ping) I would call tech support. That DVR stuck on 10Mbps may indicate a bad network card?
  18. Sounds good. PM sent. I haven't got the PM yet... Hmm. Strange.
  19. Being an IT guy you could probably source and install the new DVR's yourself. The biggest hurdles I can think of would be if you are currently using PTZ's or alarm outputs/relays. But be warned there is a learning curve to optimize the systems and after considering the value of your time any savings may be a wash when all is said and done.

I'm glad Sheryl Crow isn't running the show: She proposes one square per visit. One square!
  23. I'll let someone from Canada chime in about that pricing. I would demo both units and base my decision on that. Good luck!
  24. Both are good DVR's. Ask for a demo and see which unit you like working with best. At the same time size up the two dealers. A good dealer is gold. You won't want to fight to get acceptable service down the road. I don't know what the story is about these DVR manufacturers charging big bucks for the drives, but they all seem to do it. There are drives better suited for these DVR's but I haven't noticed significant price differences. Ask your dealer about adding your own drives and let us know what they say. His answer may determine if you want to do business with him or not. In a nutshell you should be able to add your own drives, but I don't have personal knowledge of Pelco or Bosch's warranty policies. How's the distribution biz treating you? I have a hand in a local cookie distribution territory. The fuel prices are hurting us but cookie sales keep going up so we are still seeing rising revenues. I hope the oil prices at least level out real soon...
