50 camera system for grocery store

any better solution to install those 50 ip cams? Are any of these cameras assigned to be PTZ camera? Any of these cameras to be used for exterior coverage? Where is this this store located geographically? Will there be any operator(s) in this store full time basis? How many external remote control stations will you need or how many users will be accessing any of these systems? How many days of recording is required and what rate and resolution? Will this system must comply with PCI Compliance? If so, consider one of its requirements of 90 days of recording. Will this system require POS interface for transaction monitoring with video content and extensive search capabilities? There are more questions, but the above content is a good starting point. Dependent on answers, it will be easier to consider either IP solution or analog cameras solution... Let us know..

    american dynamics "storage failure"

Martin, I am not a strong proponent for ESM (External Storage Modules) for a very simple reason - the price of 2.0TB drives are dirt cheap - thus adding internal storage is cheaper and easier to manage than external more costly options. Average storage requirements nowadays is roughly 2.5TB (some customers state that they get up to 90 days of recording to standard settings). If the system setting is higher, then 4.0TB is more than adequate... Just make sure if you are taking this path is to change the power supply to at least 500W with 80+% efficiency...

    Kalatel DVMRE-10CD Hard Drive Failed

So THATS whats up with the DVMRE powersupplies. I always wondered and GE Tech support never would explain why they had two skus for DVMRE powersupplies. This issue goes back over 5 years ago... When the system was shipped with single drive, then it was fine to ship lower amperage power supplies... however, they "forgot" to address this issue with higher rated power supplies once they starting shipping higher capacity drives or systems with multiple drives... We actually had a major problems with quite of few systems at that time that were keep shutting down and GE could not offer any simple solution except asking us to ship the entire system... The problem was that it was not just few systems... rather over 100+... so we had to figure out exactly what was wrong.. Since all systems basically were the same internally, we focused on power supplies... since we noticed that some systems never failed as oppose to most... and confirmed at that time that there was nothing wrong with system as long as it came with 7.5A version of power supplies... Later we asked them to ship us the higher rated power supplies... and then we found out about their mishap... It was a serious pain... but got done. Since then we purchase very large quantity of these power supplies not only to satisfy our requirements, but also with others that may have not been experiencing this problem from the beginning...

    Kalatel DVMRE-10CD Hard Drive Failed

Very correct... " title="Applause" /> except... Dependent if they have the older or the newer 7.5A power supply... GE realized about this limitation quite of few years ago and start shipping 7.5A power supplies, so if this system came with it, then it will work. If not, go with a single drive up to 500G.. If you want to have multiple hard drives in this system, then you should have 7.5A external power supply - The part number is PSU-7.5AMP and it is available for under $100.00

Here is the manual for this DVR - http://www.gesecurity.com/portal/site/GESecurity/menuitem.f76d98ccce4cabed5efa421766030730?selectedID=766&seriesyn=true - I think on page 7 you can find the default passwords... Word of caution - do not take the drive out of the DVR - because if you install it back, the system will reformat it.

    Kalatel DVMRE-10CD Hard Drive Failed

Take out the defective drive and install another ATA drive same size or higher and it will work. The system will recognize, format and prepare before it will start recording again. I can not confirm if you have the latest firmware, but you should be able to install at least two 500GB ATA drive to get up to 1TB drive - with latest firmware you can push it to higher capacity. I also recommend to change the external power supply - it has life expectancy of no more than 5-6 years and tends to fail..

You meant too much CCTV right?
  11. This also can be done with software parser that will take each manufacturer proprietary codes and convert to text file... There are converter boxes available specific to POS manufacturer system, but extremely expensive... whereas with software parser it is much simpler..

    Rugged Marine company

They are the same company called Rugged CCTV - check both website and they are identical and have the same address: http://www.marinecamerasystems.com/contact.shtml http://www.rugged-cctv.com/contact.shtml They are selling OEM products. Can't make any recommendations since we have not done any business with them...
  15. Looking for premade siamese cable with maximum 100' lengths only... in a large quantity. Spoke with most cable manufacturers and none makes them. They all make bulk cable. It does not pay to get someone to make this type of cables in-house - cost does not justify the mean. Any thoughts?

    Premade Siamese cable with connectors

U.S preferably! We tested few samples that were from Chinese origin - total garbage. Connectors were substandard (visible corrosion already within the connector) and the cable was not a good quality. The worst case scenario, we probably have to make them ourselves. The key component is the cost. There are some U.S. manufacturers that have odd lengths of cable and they are willing to sell them dirt cheap, which could be the ticket. But for the quantity that we are looking for may be short lived since they do not have that much of such cable. Still searching though.

    1500' Cat5 video loss

Give it a try for this passive baluns - http://videobaluns.com/ - we use them all the time and most cases stretching the cable more than 1,500' without any problems. Since you confirm that your customer used a good quality CAT5E, then this could be the most cost effective option... they run roughly $30 per pair... works very well.

    Intellex hard drive failing

You can't move this hard drive to another machine using USB-IDE adapter - even if so, you must make sure that your machine recognizes this device before it can recognize the drives. Pickup another machine and make sure it has operating system... connect your Intellex hard drive and another fresh new hard drive to this machine via your ATA or SATA cable... go to bios and verify if your system recognizes all drives, including Intellex drive. Boot into operating system. Install your duplication software - i.e. Acronis or many other available. Before your start duplication, make sure your new drive has 15GB slice partition... Duplication software should have ability to duplicate from "source" to "destination"... Make sure your Intellex partition is your "source" and new drive is your "destination". Run the software and make sure it duplication sections without any problems... Once duplication is complete, take the new hard drive and install it with the Intellex... and it should boot into Intellex without any problems. The remainder of the hard drive (above 15GB slice) can be used for storage...

    video recording to ssd drive.

We are using SSDs as system drives - both for operating system and applications. We did not select SSDs for pure speed bumps or exceptional performance, rather for reliability reasons. Started with 16GB drives and now 32GB. We tested systems with SSD drives for both OS/Application and for storage and overall performance was "sick" fast. The video playback speed was something we never seen before. Retrieval of clips was yet another record breaker too.. but... Price for higher capacity SSD drives was out of this world - over $500 for 250GB unit in large quantities and no customers are willing to pay for such performance vs. cost. It was an interesting experiment that yielded a decision to start using small capacity of SSDs for OS and applications only mainly for stability and reliability reasons.

    Intellex hard drive failing

There are many disk duplicating options - Acronis for one works great: http://www.acronis.com. There are disk copy utilities from Wester Digital and other as well that work fine. If you are using older style of disk copy, it was necessary to make sure that sector that you deem necessary as system slice had to be marked "active", but recent more known copier already perform that. You can use two 500GB drives... or one 1TB, etc, SATA or PATA drives... does not matter how to get there. Your maximum internal storage is 4.0TB... Just replace the power supply with at least 500W supply with 80%+ efficiency (don't use some cheap power supply for under $20), and make sure route power supply cable tightly away towards front of the case and away from the motherboard. Change all system fans and if possible, even change the processor fan. I will suggest to change internal PATA or SATA cables too. Re-route cables not to block air flow and are away from processor fan. Clean all the dust from inside of the box using dust cleaner. While doing all this, add some more RAM, lets say at least 500MB or better yet, 1GB. This will add on the performance. Lastly, increase your virtual memory (sometimes also called swap file size) to 1.5 times to your RAM size. Buy CD or DVD cleaner and clean your drive too.. over time it collects dirt and damages head of this device. I think by the time you go through all these steps, your Intellex will work as good as new.. Good luck and let us know how is the performance when complete.

    Intellex hard drive failing

Looks like your primary drive is on its way out... SMART message comes from your bios, so it is identifying that there is a problem with your main hard drive. Duplicate your first partition and make sure the sector is active - there are many different ways you can do this. Once you have the new hard drive ready, plug it in and make sure it boots and then Intellex works as intended. Assign rest of the partition of the drive as storage and make sure Intellex recognizes through Intellex function called driveconfig. Since you have version 3.2, it means that your OS is Win2000 and this is the most stable Intellex available. You can add more drives and have up to 4.0TB internal storage... just make sure you have high capacity power supply and all the system fans are working to reduce heat built up... More support is here: http://intellex.us/intellex-documentation Any other questions, let me know.

    american dynamics "storage failure"

You can not delete the drive that pagefile or virtual memory setup unless you change the virtual memory to be nonexistent and then you can delete it... However, make sure that your virtual memory is setup 1.5 times of your RAM capacity. This will not matter if your system is the DVMS series, as the virtual memory could be pointed to C:\ drive, but if it is Ultra, then it will matter... either way, just disable the virtual memory, delete the storage, assign "fixed" status instead of "virtual", format to its full capacity and then assign virtual memory... rest should flow just fine. Hope this helps. Any other questions, let me know.
