    Intellex dv16000 NO live video..

You are correct on your assessment... however, the other member does not have extra VACD card available for quick test. It is possible that VACD card could cause this, but if so, it also should show other problems as well... Lets see how the replacement of the video card goes and we can take the next step...

    Intellex dv16000 NO live video..

You have Intellex version 3.0 running on Windows 2000... If I am reading your comments correctly, you have a problem with vga video card. Change it with another one and make sure you provide the system with correct video driver. The video card does not have to be another ATI model of the same, rather you can use a different one if you have another one..Did you assign your storage partition correctly? BNC socket you are referring to... is it the spot out video or just looping output?? If you are seeing video from anyone of these BNC ports, that is an indication that your system may be working, but the display vga monitor is where you have to observe everything. If you were able to see the device manager, how did you manage to view it??? Get us some more info and we will be able to figure it out...

    16 channel dvr help

Welcome to the forum... Well, looks like you need a decent 16-channel DVR that is easy to operate and works well... I am sure others will jump in and make their own recommendations, but for your price range, I can make a strong case with the model below... CBC America HD series DVR - http://computarganz.com/product_series.cfm?series_id=48 This product comes with full three years warranty, no questions asked. Their replacement warranty is excellent and technical support that is exceptional. We have been working with them for over 20+ years. This DVR comes with most of the bells and whistles (of course feature that most people do not use), but extremely easy to operate - and based on Linux. Even though their specs state that you can take this system to maximum 3TB storage , in real world, you can take them up to 6TB - and the fourth bay is reserved for DVD burner. One of the options when considering this box is that you can buy it without storage drives - gives you capability to install whatever storage you need. Since the prices for hard drives has come down a lot, it makes sense to consider this option. Let me know what you think.

    Advice on new system

I never worked with Everfocus product line.. but I can suggest CBC America - one of the oldest surveillance equipment manufacturers in the industry... - http://computarganz.com/product_catalog.cfm?catalog_id=2 Most of their products come with full three years warranty and support is excellent... Your budget is decent - and it should give you 16 channel DVR and all the cameras, including the accessories - cables, connectors, power supply, etc... If you want a quote, let me know..
  8. Very cool I used both WD and Seagate drives, various storage capacities... did not see any difference in performance or functionality.. I will be very curious why WD is recommending these drives rather than what is commonly available.. have not seen this problem before. Let us know results when avail... Good luck

    American Dynamics DV16000

    Try 1234 - factory default
  10. Joe, why are you using 4 hard drives?? Sorry, I missed the fact that you are using these many drives... thought you are using only 2... I have not tested this system with 4 drives - always used 2 drives only... two 500GB and in some cases two 750GB drives - the only other obstacle to overcome was to make sure these systems have the latest and greatest firmware. I think you mentioned that you did such an upgrade, so using two drives to achieve 1TB barrier should work. Again, the power supply has nothing to do with system's ability to recognize number of drives... - These new power supplies with 7.0-7.5A capacity is more than adequate. I am sure you are assigning Master/slave setting correctly on such drives right?? Another option you can explore is by changing the drive ribbons... who know, one of the may be bad - that could cause the system not recognizing the drives. Let me know.
  11. Joe, you do and and will not loose storage space because of power supply! You pickup any hard drive and any capacity and connect to any system, regardless if Windows, Linux, etc... and rule of thumb is that even though your hard drive will say lets say 500GB, but you will only have available roughly 450GB... It is how drive manufacturers calculate available capacity vs. actual capacity. Without going into too much technical explanation, here is a url that I think gives a fair explanation on available hard drive space vs. actual - http://compreviews.about.com/od/storage/a/ActualHDSizes.htm So, power supply has nothing to do with loss of hard drive space! The part number is the correct one too... so, it is the best power supply available for this unit. There is another GE part number that is available - DVMRE PSU KIT... it is exactly the same as GE Power Supply P/N 4010-0028 and as PSU-7.5 - I guess GE labeled the same part with three different part numbers.. Good luck bud.
  12. Joe, if the system works fine after changing hard drives and without any hiccups, then you do not have to change the power supply... Most of the time the problem becomes fairly obvious - system will not start up, random restarts and shutdowns, etc... If the system is performing well after replacement of drives, leave it alone. That's just it, I replaced the Hard Drives with new ones. The system booted without a hitch. It just reported the wrong HD capacity. I was talking to one of the security guards about this and he pulled a burnt out 3.5 Amp PS out of the garbage saying, this is the reason we ordered up the the 5 amp power supplies. I'm thinking that once the storage technology becomes unreachable that will be the end of these things. Joe Hook You can say that - these are proprietary power supplies and we could not replace them with anything generic. We went ahead and bought the entire stock before they sold their security business to UTC... DVR's hard drives read reporting less than the entire capacity is ok... as I said before, you will loose roughly 10% of the entire storage anyway, so you are fine there. I remember the initial 3.5A power supplies that were frying like crazy and then 5.2A units arrived and they held up ok for a time being until larger capacity drives arrived... then we saw the problem that started causing random restarts, shutdowns, etc... When they came up with the 7.5A version, then everything went back to normal... The URL above is one of our websites... so you can easily place an order online if you want or PM me, I can help.
  13. Thanks for the reply! I installed four 320G drives. The power supply I am currently using puts out 5.2A. Do you think PSU-7.5 should do the trick? I'm with Angus, I'll start my search for PS for these puppies. We have about 25 DVRs in the field and I anticipate one coming in every other month, but, then again, these things are pretty tough. Joe Hook Joe, if the system works fine after changing hard drives and without any hiccups, then you do not have to change the power supply... Most of the time the problem becomes fairly obvious - system will not start up, random restarts and shutdowns, etc... If the system is performing well after replacement of drives, leave it alone.
  14. You will have roughly 10% capacity loss regardless which set of drives you use. Since you installed two 320G drives (total of 640G) minus 10%, will give you what you already are seeing. What Amperage power supply do you read from external power supply? If it is 5.2A version, I will strongly recommend to get the one that has the capacity of 7.5A - part number is PSU-7.5. Good luck.

    Intellex 2.6/3.2 issue

Thank for clarifying that it is version 3.2... it explains a lot.

    Intellex 2.6/3.2 issue

Is the Intellex boot correctly with the older drive? What is important is that C:\ drive to function... the rest will be assigned as storage anyway... If it is booting to this drive and you are able to view Intellex screen shots, then you can duplicate that drive on a new drive. You can use this http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119 to duplicate the drives... however, make sure the replacement drive is Western Digital... OR you an use any other hard drive duplication software... there are many available from other companies... If the above process does not work due to older hard drive condition, then the only other option you have is to restore Intellex to its original format... If it is version 3.0, stay with the same version restore process... otherwise you will have SW incompatibility issues using any other versions. Do you have access to restore CD sets for this system?

    Intellex 2.6/3.2 issue

Are you restoring or recovering?? If your original main hard drive is still good, you can recover by disk copy to another drive by making sure the slice of the drive is the same size as the original.. It is not relevant if your new drive is a SATA or PATA... Or, you can restore the specific version Intellex software on a new drive... There should have been no reason to upgrade the firmware on your motherboard... Dependent how you "prepared" the new drives, chances are good that either correct drive is not set as boot at your bios or the section of the boot drive is not active. Hope this helps.

    Shoping for a new system

This one - http://computarganz.com/product_view.cfm?product_id=889 is one of their best... You add the storage drives as you need them... it is embedded and self configurable. Supports D1 resolution and communication with smart phone devices.. very simple to use... and comes with full (3) three years warranty. I am sure there are others, but for a major brand, this is probably the most cost effective. Good luck... and if you have any questions, please let me know.
  19. Will recommend CBC America (Ganz) Digimaster H.264 series DVR - http://computarganz.com/product_series.cfm?series_id=48 - matches all your specs...

    intellex issue

Well, he took his job security with himself He probably had the serious of SW keys matching MAC addresses and probably even the procedure how to restore, setup and program... but all that is available anyway.. if you have some time to read... again, send me PM and I can give you more info.

    intellex issue

Which recovery CD set did you find??? Was it for version 2.1 or different? If your system was an original version 2.1 and if you are using restore CD version 2.1, then your SW key will work. Any other variations will not. Provided that you did not change the motherboard and changed only the hard drive, plus if the above statement is correct, then there should be no reason for your Intellex not to function. Your version of Intellex is over 10+ years old and not even manufacturer will support it... including no support to get new SW key... Did you change the motherboard by any chance and if so, that will be another problem... New motherboard MAC address will be different, which will cause the SW key not to respond. Give me some more info and hopefully we can figure it out.
