    fault on GE STORESAFE PRO11

I've seen this problem.. on an older models.. If my recollection is correct, the older power supplies were rated 5A and later when GE realized that it is not providing enough juice for higher capacity hard drives, they introduced the 7.5A version. The way we confirmed that there is a problem is when we took two 500GB 7200 RPM drives to convert standard 160G or 320G system to 1.0TB level without changing the bios configuration... the system started showing too many lock ups and restarts and even not recognizing the drives. As soon as replaced the power supply to the 7.5A version, it took care of the problem... Each time we work with a similar system, we automatically change the power supply... It just not worth to take any chances going forward. Here is what I am referring to: [link removed] Another suggestion is to contact GE and obtain the latest available firmware for your unit. It is available on their website, but I think you need to create an account to have access... If nothing else, call GE technical support and they are very good in providing support.

    IP cameras and market pricing

Thanks for the response... I also had some opportunities to view certain models from other manufacturers that have not made any serious splash as of yet... Hikvision is one that looks very good thus far... and the make both lower res and high res boxed and minidomes cameras... impressive thus far, but not sure how their customer service or support is. Pricing is decent comparatively with most - their hi res IP cameras are around $350 range, where as the 2MP cameras could be around $500... These are average street pricing that we found online and I am sure these number could be higher or lower depends where you buy them. Another up and coming company is Grandstream.. they have only three IP boxed cameras and few encoders... not many flavors as of yet, but very promising. We tested their mid-range performer and it looks very good.. I only wish that they start to make some minidomes and according to the company, they are planning to do it... Some of the street pricing varies between $250.00 to as high as $450.00 dependent which model and the most expensive one of course is their 2MP camera... Not much of anything else that we tested recently that the forum members have not seen or used. Anyway, thanks for your input. I will check with Startdot and netzeye..

Intellex 3.0 Restore invalid Key Error.

Chris, dvrtiger is correct on selection of the license editor and try that see what happens.. However, I am concerned that you are restoring the software when the problem was caused by restart of the Intellex. Most likely the restore will not work - due to the fact that restarts are normally caused by hardware or driver issues. If the system was working fine and the system started to restart, there are few things you could or can try even after you bring the system online. First off, change the power supply and make sure that you add at least 400W size. Change the hard drive - it has been known that they cause similar problem.... remote possibility is the capture card, but then you have to take all the step above before considering to check this card. Here is a question - was the system restarting while running Intellex software? What if you stopped running the Intellex and run just the windows only? The reason for these questions is that you could have performed hard drive copy only and retain all the Intellex setups, etc... as long as the partition holding the software was not damaged. While working on the unit, change the cables and the fans - including the processor fan. Let us know the outcome and good luck.
  5. Are you referring to Cinch Jones Connector like this one? - http://cctv-connectors.net/american-dynamics-cinch-jones-connector-for-rj860a-10-position-j-box.html
  6. Dennis, American Dynamics will not give this firmware on the chip... for various reasons... one of which is that it is available as a free download here: http://americandynamics.net/support/downloads_20060222_SpeedDome_Ultra_VIIE_Firmware.aspx Now, you can download it and if you have the right tools and follow instructions, you should be able to update your firmware to latest Ultra VIIE... However, if you have not done this before, they have a box unit that will do this trick... here: http://www.americandynamics.net/products/speeddome_adacsnet.aspx - This tool allows to program all versions of American Dynamics domes... OR, you have to find old Ultra VIIE and take the chip from it... Hope this is helpful...
  7. I am not sure it will work.. the chipsets on the board are different.. You can do a quick test - RAS916LS comes with hi res camera... switch it with your camera block (I do not have the spec sheets of the camera, so I will take word for it that VK-S454R is the day/night version).. If you still have full control on the dome and yet still see hi res picture, then it may be the firmware... As far as I know the firmware does not control the video feed... rather the control of the dome functions. I know that they use much more powerful lens for RAS917 series.. so that could be an issue.. but give a trial.. getting firmware is not necessary the missing link...
  8. Dennis, any reason why you want to change this firmware? Unless you want to use new features that this new firmware provided (here is the link that shows it uses: http://www.tycovideo.com/WebApps/getDocument.aspx?filename=8200-0184-12_A_E.pdf), you may not need to change it in the first place. I do not think anyone adds this part to their lineup in any website.. the main reason is that someone may sell few per year at most, if any. Firmware does not go bad - the electronics on the board do. What is the main reason to try to change this firmware? We can get this firmware, which is not returnable or refundable. American Dynamics is notorious about their return policies for such hardware. You must have absolute reason to change this, otherwise if the problem resides with the electronics around it, I will not recommend it. Some of the main reasons that we upgraded these older domes to this version firmware are as follows: 1. Its compatibility with newer version matrix switch devices. 2. Full compatibility with SensorNet, RS-422, Manchester, and UTC matrix switchers and controllers, including Pelco various protocols 3. and others... If you have their matrix switch that has the same age as this dome, then it should be fine.. and the problem could be somewhere else rather than firmware.. These domes not only had problems with the board that this firmware resides, but also slip rings, motors and gears, etc... so, it is not necessary to change firmware unless you have a very specific uses.. If after you justify to get this firmware, then please PM me. I can get you the pricing and the delivery dates on Monday. Hope this helps...

    Capsules for Self-Healing Circuits

You thought self healing software is interesting... how about hardware? http://www.technologyreview.com/computing/23413/ Not a new idea, but looks like many are working on it even more aggressively. Interesting... very interesting..

    Storesafe Pro II firmware issue

Just make sure to use their Uploader and the correct firmware next time... wish there was a different way we could have reseted the firmware... Good luck and let us know the outcome.
  12. Any particular reason for going IP MP solution since there are restrictions on budget? Besides the camera, you will still need the software (dependent what you pick, it could be expensive), workstation and storage server... Why not look at Bosch EX-series of cameras that are designed for this type of application? This type of camera aside, you have a lot more choices on selection of decent DVR, which can cost substantially lower compared to IP software, workstation and storage server combination... and yet, give you license plate capture capability... Sometimes the application must match the hardware requirements rather than hardware to be forced to meet the application requirements...

where can i get a mounting plate panasonic cw474

Are you referring to Panasonic WV-Q112 mounting plate? This is the only mounting plate avail from Panasonic... Just Google it and there are quite of few companies offering it... Good luck...
  15. Without going with too much of details, if YOUR camera streams H.264, it takes it and stores as such and if you stream any other format, then actual conversion takes place at the server side... Any other questions mate? Thanks for the response, and yes your response has raised many questions. Are you re-encoding prior to committing to disk or post? Have you considered latency with such a task? also processing requirements? questions just to start with.... No need to answer these questions here as I dont want to hyjack this thread, maybe if you could start a new thread with your proposed system, features and benifits. Thanks. I concur - this discussion for this software is not part of this thread... There is a different thread already in place, but did not go through this much details... yet at least... but to keep the answers short for now, the answers are Yes (certain models and more considerations daily for other modesl), Yes and Yes..

    HIK Vision 2 MP

You're web pages are they built on some template? I have seen some webistes that looks preyy much the same setup/different graphics that I think are hoax web pages and also some of them there is warnings on the web to not pay in advance for any goods. I dont think you have anything to do with it, just to understand if there are someone using the same template. JD JD, can you please show me a link on what you are referring here? Magento was an open source platform and recently decided to commercialize their services... we are and will continue using this platform... works great.. I know that they are quite of few companies created many templates for this platform, some actually different than others...

    HIK Vision 2 MP

They are already a partner! And they are working on this and will have releases of ONVIF supported cameras 2010. JD Ok, but that means that any soft supporting standard will work with HIK cam Right ? Not necessarily.. someone has to write the driver (or interface) to take full advantage of their as well as other brand cameras.

If you mean that Hikvision software is not ready for anything(3rd party) yet, I think they will not be later either! Hikvision sells H.264 chips with SDK mainly, they are not really a software company but the largest player in H264 in the world. I think that if Hikvision software in the future will support 3rd party ipdevices it will be Hikvision OEM like ****, **** and ****. Axis, Mobotix etc I think will not be supported! Hikvision is in a very special posistion, they are the largest buyer of H264 chips in the world! They have over 50% market share in mainland China on DVR/IP based cameras. They have been selling H264 since 2005 and we are talking of millions of devices already in the market before other companies more or less started with H264. Strategy for Hikvision is not to make other brands available in their own software, but make Hikvison IPC a must to have in every decent software! The only problem I see for Hikvision in the west on long term is that they have a chinese business model, sell to everyone, even the grandmother to their largest customer if they can get her telephone number! Asian/Chinese business is very different compared to western and to understand this is the biggest challange. JD JD, they want to sell product like everyone else. Yes, they are the main player in China and sold more cameras that anyone else in the industry. That puts them in a very unique position - controlling the H.264 based camera sales... How did they achieve this type of status? I do not care if it is a Chinese model, American Model or a model from Russia... what makes the difference is the availability of the product, the price points, the support and the most importantly, that they work... I personally think that if Hikvision plays their cards right, they can becomes a dominant force player in our market. I do not blame them trying every angle possible to sell a product.. heck, everyone else do anyway. What I see happen is that they single handedly could change IP market, if they want by starting a price war and have their products operate with other IP software and systems. They have both regular IP and MP IP cameras... nice mixture that covers many bases... Their SDK may come handy if they had a decent software, but I am confident that they will have something decent soon.. They have the financial muscle to explore every possible avenue available in U.S... I am not sure how well they do elsewhere, but I think they will do very good in our market.

Are u talking about reg and mega IP cameras ? Do u believe HIK manufacture IP Cam ? I don't I am referring to both... and they make their own.. at least from everything we have seen. Normally if someone is OEM-ing a product, then you will see the actual manufacturer marking inside of the box... and besides Hik, nothing else shows... I guess the ultimate test will be is to go to their factory and check?? I think Hik will do well in our industry.. I know Milestone signed a contract to offer HIK IP cameras as well as many others... price points are very good and performance very nice. I am sure they can chance the packaging, but it is fine for now... it will evolve over time..

    HIK Vision 2 MP

That is what I heard too... from what I was told, they assigned quite of few of their own engineers to design a brand new IP software... Their existing software is very cheesy and substandard... "worked" with their cameras only.. but according to them, the new package should work with other manufacturer IP cameras as well... I guess we will wait and see. I am very impressed with their IP camera lineup... works very well and is much cheaper than most out there..

We have these cameras on hand... seen them perform well with some software packages and very bad with others... Hikvision has its own IP software, but it is not ready for anything yet...
