Looking for high resolution (480 or better) auto iris, varifocal, sealed and all weather camera that will be reasonable value....If I have to spend more I will...just looking for some opinions based on your experience. Not interested in cameras that no one has experience with either personally or from freinds/clients etc. Please provide models and perhaps best place to purchase. thanks for the help.

    noisey night pictures

What i have done is to boost my light source at night using dusk to dawn high pressure sodium lighting(Regent wall packs). You can get these from menards or home depot. I use mostly 50 watt around the house and these really light up the yard and street. The bulbs last 10 times longer than conventional bulbs and put out about 4 times the lumens. I use sony 1/3 color dome cameras and they work pretty good. It is a little grainy at night but i am surprised at how good these work. I had heard that the infrareds were just gimmicky and you seem to acknowledge this yourself. Try boosting your light source with HPS lighting and let me know how it works. thanks
  3. This forum has been great, but can anyone direct me to other cctv/security forums on the net with any higher volume than this forum??? thanks
  4. the manual for this unit is not very user friendly.....could anyone out there tell me for the Record and Event Settings and Type there are a few options including Event + Time Lapse or just Event. Does anyone have a clue what the Time Lapse feature is for. I just want to record motion and dont know whether to enable Event + Time Lapse or just Event... the manual is just lacking in a lot of ways looks like a high school kid wrote it. Thanks
  5. I have the unit described above and i can connect over my network, but every so often the ip address of the unit changes and I have to go upstairs and look it up in the menu setup in the unit and this is a big pain. any way to get the ip address to stay the same over time? Would i have to get a static ip address from roadrunner my hi speed internet provider??? thanks
  6. thanks for all the help Rory......just dont quite understand how all of this works...just thought that my no-ip domain address automatically sent me to the proper ip and that it auto changed the address....guess not huh? thanks for all your very beneficial help......tommorrow thanks
  7. maybe this is weird, but when i put my no-ip address into my web browser it shows the password box for my router and when i put in the password the router settings are available. is this just because i am on my own computer or would this be the same on a remote computer?? if so, then i would be able to access my current ip address in my router status settings from anywhere. Is this wrong? It woudl be much easier this way and i would not have to provide my email address and password to no-ip in the set up of this program. thanks
  8. what do you mean by no-ip needs to be running on the computer? i thought that i could just go to my no-ip domain and with a password it lets me into my router settings??? no?
  9. Well this is really cool....i put my ip address to my computer (not the ip of the kalatel) and put it into wavevue pro and it is showing my cameras!!!! Is this what will happen from a remote location as well??? thanks
  10. ok i set up my no-ip account and can get into my router to determine my current ip, what then? do i put this ip into the wavereader? thanks
  11. ok, if i get a noip.com address then i can determine what my ip address is if it should switch when i am on vacation in cancun or something?? but, i think i also hear you saying that the only way to access my kalatel from remotely is to have a computer with wavereader running on it. so if the resort i am at only has internet capablel computers (vs. high speed access for a tabletpc or portable) , i will not be able to see me pics unless this computer has wave reader on it???? now what ip address do i put in the remote wavereader? the kalatel IP address or the computer ip address that i determine from www.noip.com? thanks again Rory!!
  12. ok.....now i made the changes you suggested (to the router forwarding options) and now i can access my kalatel through the lan without it changing ip addresses.....now what do i need to do to find my cameras when i am at work and on another nonnetworked computer? do i need to have the wavereader or wavevue running on that computer? this is a government office and what if i cannot enable active x controls???? anyway to access my cameras just through the internet somehow avoiding software and active x problems?? thanks
  13. so, should i reset the kalatel port to 80 as it was in the default or does it matter??? i changed it to 1024 in the unit when you said to use 1024 for the router port.
  14. Rory, if i set the router to 1024 to 1024, do i need to change the kalatel unit port from 80 to 1024???
  15. i think i found what you are describing in the applications and gaming tab but i think my kalatel said the http port was 80?
  16. Rory, I tried to do the port forwarding thing as you described in another post but my new 8 port linksys router did not have any of the forwarding options you said would be in the advanced setup. I did not see forwarding, tcp, udp, or ext port options. What am i missing? thanks for the help btw you have been immensely helpful in my initial security setup and i am very grateful for your time and help.
  17. anyone have any solutions for this. The fan runs continuously and it is very loud. not sure if it is just the blowing air itself or the fan noise. can these be replaced to provide quieter service? I placed the unit in our bedroom because it made sense to have the camera pics there should we wake up at night to the doorbell or other activity and i dont want to move the unit. thanks
  18. DVMRE 10-CT-320 I will have the unit above in few days. I want to be able to view my cameras from a remote location like at my computer at work or out of town like on vacation or a freind's house where I may not have wavereader software installed. Any idea of the easiest and least expensive way of accomplishing this through my networked dvr??? thanks
  19. thanks again Rory for all the help. i think this power supply was crap. does not have any internet site and i will send it back tommorrow. i just did not not if there was a camera "synching" problem with individual ac adapters. thanks
  20. I set the ethernet to enable and dhcp but cannot get the ethernet connection working. any help with the ethernet settings would be helpful. thanks
  21. brand new sealed in box kalatel. apparently customers for big jobs back out and then they have to pay the difference between what this guy gets and what they owed.....somthing like that.
  22. Does anyone know of a company called ADT that sells what appears to be a clone of the Kalatel dvmre 10-ct-320???
  23. I need about 10 of these and would like to pay no more than $3 or $4 each. any sources for these??? thanks
  24. spent $157 on a CPI ps-16dc that is producing line roll in the camera picture. I need 16 source dc source that will be stable and not the piece of crap CPI that ordered from security warehouse in florida. it is going back tommorrow. any opinions on altronix altv1224dc2 unit? Do I need a ac/dc unit and do these cost more? thanks
  25. i contacted ADT and kalatel and both informed the unit badged adt is 100% kalatel unit. I thought i got ripped at first but only decieved as to the badged name of the unit. I should have been informed of this but given that it is a kalatel and i saved $1300 off of new, it did not feel so bad. thanks. it is not the digimux unit you are describing. The adt is a the kalatel dvrme 10 source 320 gig hd unit but with the adt name on the unit and on the brochures but identical otherwise. thanks
