    NV5000 Tv-Out

Is there a way to view all 4 cameras instead of it cycling through the selected cameras one by one? I hope the latest software allows a 4 camera split screen.

    NV5000 Tv-Out

I remember reading that the higher end cards allow the 4-channel split screen. I just don't see why there would be any sort of hardware limitation to doing it on the NV5000. Maybe it's just a marketing thing to get ppl to buy the higher end cards. This is sort of a deal breaker for one of my clients. I might have to sell him a dvr just for this feature. I'm not sure I'd want to get rid of the NV5000 card though. Maybe I can split my 4 channels into both the NV5000 and an external stand alone dvr....
  3. How do I connect a mic on a dvr? I have a dvr with an rca input for the microphone. Do I need a special mic? Does it have to be amplified?

    wire stripping tool

Thank you for the replies. Yeah I knew it had the allen wrench to adjust the height, but I needed to know if I can also adjust the blade widths. Looks like it does it. I'll pick one up.
  7. I'm looking for a good tool to strip rg59/rg6 wires. I have one now but it only removes about 1/8inch of the insulation that covers the outer braid. I always have to remove a bit more by hand. So I'm looking for a tool that allows me to adjust the width of the blades so that I can set it up to cut about 1/4" of the insulation. Would this tool be adjustable? http://www.amazon.com/Paladin-1257-2-Level-Stripper-RG6-Quad/dp/B0002VY1FM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1258237582&sr=1-3
  8. Which one is higher in quality?
  9. I'm looking for a simple 120fps card that can handle 4 cameras. I've got some experience with an Avermedia NV5000 card. It works well but is pricy for some users. Are there any hybrid cards out there that offer a solid product with decent software? Not looking for anything fancy. I just want it to work.
  10. I just installed a Avermedia NV5000 for a friend. It works fine so far. There is just 1 camera connected. I'm trying to setup remote viewing and it just doesn't work. In the Network setup menu, it detected the local ip of the computer system and it put a default value of '5550' for 'Remote Console Port'. 'Remote Control Server' is enabled; and it is running. The default port here is '5555'. Now this is where I'm confused. Why are there 2 ports? In any case, I went into the router firewall settings and fowarded ports 5550 to 5555 onto the server ip. Now on page 80 of the manual, it says that all I need to do is access the server and it should prompt me to install a software (WebcamX.cab). I enter the 'remote ip:5550' in my browser from home and it doesn't connect. I tried 'remote ip:5555' and still nothing. I made sure the ip was right by checking the actual physical ip of the remote modem (www.whatismyip.org). I even tried with a dyndns address. Nothing works. What am I missing here?
  11. I did an installation with 2 of these cameras. They are both located on the side of a building. The dvr board is Avermedia NV5000. After installing camera #1, the client complained that the picture was a bit grainy or pixelated. To me, it seemed to be a lighting issue since the picture looks nice in the daytime but does degrade as it gets dark. I then installed camera #2 and it looks a lot better than cam #1. The client really likes the picture quality of cam #2 and so do I. I want to try and fix cam #1 now. Is lighting really the only issue here? The difference is just too big for it to be a lighting issue. This camera has jumpers. I had tested jumper #2 at home. If I set it to OFF, the IR led's did not turn on. I want the opposite though. I want the camera to go to IR mode right away when it gets a bit dark. The reason is because the picture quality is a lot better in IR mode. I would be willing to give web access to the cameras to someone that has good experience in resolving picture quality issues like this.
  12. How do you stop the software from disabling your win xp screen saver? It disables it everytime the software is started. How do you setup a user to be able to just view the cameras remotely? I tried setting up a user as type 'user' instead of 'administrator' and I played around with different settings but can't get it to work. It always says that the user name and password is not recognized.

CNB BE3815NVR question on picture quality

The IR is not turning on anymore since there is enough light from the reflection on the snow to keep the camera in 'night' mode. I'd rather it go into IR mode cuz then it looks really nice. I did play with the potenciometer that adjusts the amount of light. I'm guessing this is the AGC gain. I boosted it a bit and it just made the image brighter but it still looks grainy. In the Avermedia software, there is an adjustment for voltage. If I boost it, then the image does clean up a bit. But it's still a far cry from the quality on the other camera. The only difference between the cameras is that one has a 40VA power adapter and the other has a 20VA adapter. The 20VA was the one that shipped with the camera. I had to return one camera and adapter though; when I got the replacement I just got the camera. So the supplier credited me on the adapter and I just got one here. I only found a 40VA and was told it would last longer than the 20VA. I might just try swapping adapters and see what happens. If anyone is curious to see the cameras, pm me.

CNB BE3815NVR question on picture quality

I'm not up on cctv lingo; what are 'AGC' settings? I just got back from adjusting the camera. It was after 6pm and I still have the same problem. The picture just looks so pixelated and it also causes the fps rate on that camera to be much slower than the other 2 (I added a temporary internal camera). I will re-do the connection since the picture was going dark while moving the cable. I'll also try another bnc connector. I hope it's just a bad connection. The supplier that sold me the camera has been helpful and has viewed the video. He said that it's a lighting issue but I just don't buy it since the image is always grainy, even in broad daylight. The dip switch settings on both CNB camera are set identically (I left them all at the default down setting). There is an English manual on the cnb website: http://www.cnbtec.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=341

  17. I just got a CNB BE3815NVR camera. It came with a 24V ac adapter model GMT2450. The adapter has 3 connector screws but the camera has 2 wires for AC. The 3 connector screws on the adapter are unlabelled. What goes where? Thanks.

    24v ac adapter question

Does anyone know how I can use a multimeter to test the 120V sockets? I have a client that has some indoor wirelss ip cameras (Airlink AIC250W) and he keeps having to power down and power on the cameras every few weeks after they lose their signal. The configuration is fine as are the wireless routers, so I'm thinking it might be something to do with a surge or sag in voltage. My client did tell me he's had power issues. So I'd like to know how to use the multimeter to test the outlets and what would be the acceptable range of voltage.
  19. I'm new to video security. I have a client that wants a system and I was looking at these 2 boards. I just called a camera system distributor and he told me to go with the Avermedia because it can be expanded and because it has tv-out. Any opinions on these 2 cards? Will they both have the same video quality and speed (for viewing and recording)? Thank you.
  20. Good to hear that Aver is working on improving the software. I managed to pull a trick to get it working though. I setup the alarm email setting to email a regular email address instead of the cell phone. In the email, I'm able to set rules (using Outlook Express). So I created a rule to re-send any email containing a specific word in the subject heading (I used "NV5000") to the cell phone email address. By doing it this way, it's Outlook Express that calls the cell and not the Avermedia software. And doing it this way actually sends the msg to the cell. The cell does report that certain attachments were unable to go through but that's ok. It would be a nice feature if it were possible to send the photos to a cell phone too.
  21. In the alarm setup, email option, is there a way to disable sending frames? I need to disable it in order to use this option to text my cell phone. I have a cell that has an email address, testing the account works fine. But if I actually trigger the alarm, the text can't get through because it then tries to attach frames with the email and i guess my phone freaks out and refuses the email.

    Avermedia NV5000 Remote Viewing Problem

I got everything working for now. Note: I installed the latest version off the Aver website right away instead of installing the version on the cd. The blue screen was fixed by boosting the 'hardware acceleration' setting in my video setup.

    Avermedia NV5000 Remote Viewing Problem

Thank you for the reply. Clicking on 'network' did the trick and it now works. I type my dyndns:5550 and it asked me to install webcamx. I did click on remote console and it downloaded the software on my pc. But I don't see the video with it; I just see a blue screen. I see video just fine if i'm just watching with webcamx though. I had an issue with losing video and just seeing a blue screen on the server pc yesterday. I rebooted that pc and it worked again. I can't find a phone number for Avermedia. I would like to talk to their tech support to iron out a few issues. Anyone know the number?
