New PoE DVR Needed - Advice

Hi Tom, I'm afraid I can't post a photo of exactly what i looks like as I am away from home atm, however I've grabbed this off of google as it is similar. It is very much the same except with 2 USB ports and think spaced a little more. I believe my confusion is thus - I thought an NVR was one of those boxed with a single Ethernet port which captures the cameras, instead of being like the above, which I believed was called a DVR. Anyway, it appears my mistake has led me astray, but I am still looking for suggestions. I'd like to box to be similar to above, providing PoE to the cameras. It has to have H.265 or H.265+ compression so I can fit on more footage, and as I said before, I'd like it to be more modern so it will actually work with the newer browsers (FireFox primarily) and be backwards compatible with my older cameras (I believe 2MP bullet cams, although I'm happy to upgrade to some better ones). This listing is very very similar to the original product I purchased: https://www.amazon.co.uk/stores/HVIEW/1080PPOESystem_POECCTVSystem/page/8B47C8DE-8006-4646-959E-D8825AF5F280 Not exactly the same, but very very similar. So yes, advice on a new DVR/NVR (whatever it is called lol). Help greatly appreciated because at the moment it is little more than a power eating doorstop (as I said I can access it, but it is a very cumbersome process). Thank

    Hi All!

Hello everyone, So it turns out I've been lurking on this board since around 2018 when I posted about a issue I was having with an old P.O.S system my ex bought me, so I thought I'd say hi! Name is John, I'm in my early thirties, live alone in the UK (but there is the dog, so not really alone ), suffer from some disabilities but I try to not let them get in my way too much. Hope everyone is dealing well in the heat, I was riding my scooter earlier and the display told me it was 39 degrees C, and the UK also broke it's heat record with a temp of over 40 at Heathrow. Anyway, have a nice day and hopefully I'll catch you soon .
  3. Good evening everyone, I have a CCTV system which I've had for a few years now, the make of the cameras I cannot remember off the top of my head, I just know that they are IP cameras and 4MP. Now the way the system currently operated is that cameras all plug into the DVR with Ethernet cables and the power is supplied PoE, so 4 wires into the DVR. The actual DVR box is H.View, not that I think this makes a huge amount of difference. Now my issue is thus. The DVR is of an older era and the only way to access it used to be using Internet Explorer, as it requires an ActiveX plug-in. As IE has now gone the way of the dinosaur, I am totally unable to access my DVR using my computers, the only way is for me to run a long HDMI cable and mouse, then plug it in to a monitor in the front room, which of course is beyond inconvenient. Obviously I require a new DVR which provides PoE. An NVR is also an option, however I prefer to the CC part of CCTV, so closed circuit and not just broadcasting across the entire network (although I may have my terminology confused, as I have seen PoE devices referred to as NVR's, so if someone could clarify this for me I'd be in your debt). So, I am looking for recommendations for a new DVR. My current one is a 4 channel , which is absolutely fine as I only have 3 cameras at the moment, although I do plan to connect a 4th eventually. As I've already said it needs to provide PoE. Ideally I'm looking for one without a HDD or I'm just going to have another spare HDD floating about, as I'll just move the 4TB one I have in the current system over. Naturally it needs to be nicely up to date so that is will work in FireFox (my primary browser), Chrome, Edge and all others. I'd very much like it to have H265+ compression so I can fit more footage on, as my last one did a maximum of H264. Although I like the "closed circuit" part of the system as I have said, I'd also very much appreciate one which can be accessed remotely via a phone app, so I can check on things if needs be. I hope this is enough information for people to provide me with some suggestions. I recently had to tell the police I couldn't give them the footage they wanted regarding an incident which happened outside my home. CCTV isn't very useful when you can't view it without jumping through 200 hoops! So yes, please throw some suggestions my way. Price isn't a huge factor, but I'm no looking to spend a fortune considering I'm only after a DVR shell (I'm aware I may have to buy one with some form of HDD and then swap it out, but an empty one would be the most ideal). I have had a bit of a look around myself, but I just don't want to be ordering the wrong thing, as CCTV isn't my speciality. Should any-more details be required just let me know, otherwise start flinging those suggestions at me. Thanks for your help everyone!
  4. Hi all, I'm fairly new to the world of CCTV, although have long been interested. A while ago I purchased a very basic system (Storage Options HOMEGUARD 2-Camera 4-Channel 1TB CCTV Kit). I would paste a link to the exact one, but Storage Options website is being rebuilt and the site I purchased it from no longer stocks it (it looks exactly the same as this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Storage-Options-HG4DIY1T-Homeguard-Camera/dp/B00LTXRNYI however I can neither confirm nor deny it is one and the same, as my one doesn't actually have a model number on it). A few days ago I purchased two new cameras, as a local chain were selling all their analogue equipment at a discounted rate. In this clearance I picked up two brand new "Sentient Pro 720p Varifocal Bullet Camera"'s (http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/sentient-hd-720p-day-and-night-outdoor-varifocal-bullet-camera-a18tq). I have run test after test and just cannot get any video output onto the DVR. The techie side of me thinks it is related to the fact that these cameras are 720p HD, but again I'm a techie, not an A/V expert. I am sure the cameras work, as when they are plugged in and I cover the light sensor, you can see the IR's come on for night-vision. If someone could confirm or deny whether my suspicions about the cameras being HD and the box not supporting it are true, that would be great. If this is not the problem a nudge in the right direction, whether it be changing certain settings, or buying a new compatible DVR, would be greatly appreciated. Note: I know I should have gone digital, but the first box was bought a couple of years ago and I currently am not in a financial situation to be able to pay out for an entire new digital system. Any extra details that might be needed can be provided upon request. Many thanks guys! - John
