3.2 out of 5, from 31 reviews... that seems some crappy system you want to get into. I read most of the reviews. Most are actually not bad. The issue most people seem to be having from what I read is the software doesnt seem to work well with a MAC. Most people are like cameras work great and have a great picture. The software is the problem. Being a local store I can always return if needed. So I guess what I was asking, would both these cameras link together? Also do you recommend any other system that is in that price range that would be better?

So I was looking at getting 8 more of these? https://www.amazon.com/Security-Reolink-65-100ft-Detection-RLC-410/dp/B010LH48F4/ref=cm_cd_al_qh_dp_t/?tag=c24m-20 Would those on amazon match up to that swann system. These here on amazon are 1440 and the ones by swann are 1080. I just want to make sure everything matches before I purchase. Thank you

So I am looking at getting a 16 channel PoE system. I have been doing a lot of research, some on here and some exploring the web. I was looking at getting a NVR which from what I am gathering is pretty much is a DVR but set up for PoE.. Is that correct? I was looking at ethernet switches to power the camera. What my boss is looking for is something he can view live from a TV screen via hdmi and also his phone. No so much preview recorded footage on his phone, but will need to be able to via the TV screen. Thats where his prev DVR came into play at.. Will an ethernet switch allow for live viewing on a TV sccreen, be able to go back and look at footage and all that? He will have a desktop with internet near by if that helps at Im not sure how exactly a switch works but I know how a NVR/DVR works and he is used to having it setup where he can go back and look at footage from that tv screen via the DVR.. Is an ethernet switch any cheaper then the NVR setups? Thanks

This is why he pretty much wants to start over. I was just trying to save him some money by using the exciting cameras that have the BNC connectors. The ones with the COAX cables I'm not even messing with them. I am just going to replace them. I was just trying to keep everything neat and thats why I thought that PoE systems were the best for that. I can cut the wire to the exact amount I need.. I cant do this with the BNC connectors can I? If not and it seems its best to go with PoE system, then do you guys recommend a system that is best. I need 16 cameras with a DVR. I am guessing 1-2 tb would be fine. It seems most systems come with 2tb for 16 cameras anyway. I am going to try and save money by just buying the cameras and the DVR separate. If I buy a complete system they come with wires and such that I wont use. For the next question, What is the decent CAT5 wire I can use. Can I use CAT5 or do I have to use CAT6? My longest distance would be less then 150 feet I would think. I am going to be running wires down and under docks that the will get wet. Also this is salt water. All the connections will be dry other then rain. Do you guys recommend any RJ45 plugs that are better then others? I am going to try and talk to him in getting all the wires outside in conduit. Yes that was a MS paint home made picture of what I was hoping would work and wanted to do. Sucks it wont work but to plan b. I added a photo of what they had in the past. Its kind of confusing but let me explain. They had a camera power supply box. They took a cat 5 cable and did two different things with it. 1) They ran one pair (2 wires) from a CAT5 cable and plugged in one of those green and black 2.1mm DC power plugs. Then they used that to power the 8 plugs in a pig tail series I guess you call them. (in the photo, that is the red/wire lines) 2) they used those same green/black 2.1mm DC power plug connectors and put them on the end of another pair (2 wires) from the SAME CAT5 cable that ran the pack of 8 pig tails that I just mention above. Then that ran directly to the wires coming from the camera. It did the same thing has the pig tails would do. They are just individual. If I remember correctly they did 8 cameras with the pig tails, then powered the other 8 via the 2nd method. I think they used three cat5 cables in order to power all 16 cameras.. I dont remember. BUT what I am trying to do is re run all the wires to the cameras since most were cut when gutting the building. The reason why I want to use CAT5 is because I can cut the wires to the perfect length, put the RJ45 plugs on them and be done. No extra wires... Are these PoE systems good? Can I do the same thing with PoE as I can with the normal TVL systems. The normal systems you buy with the BNC connectors. If so does it matter if its CAT 5 or CAT6? Also, if I am reading your reply correctly it says I can use CAT5 wires and then wire up BNC connectors on the other end of the CAT 5 cable. Then run power via the power supply box and I can do that with a CAT5 cable. I drew up another photo for that.. it will be the 2nd photo. Sorry if its not neat or wrong. I am just trying to figure out whats best and of course learning at the same time. I still like the PoE Idea, he would just have to get new cameras that support the PoE... correct? And if that is what we are going to do, then will everything work as the same as TVL cameras. Hey all. I am new here. Thank you for accepting me to your awesome forums. Im not an expert with security systems but I have installed about 5-6 systems. That is all. My question is, I just recently installed a new system for my boss on one of his buildings. This system was powered and ran video with JUST an ethernet cable. No BNC or power wires. Which I fell in love with. I am super OCD and I love how clean the setup looks. His old system was a mess. It was installed by a professional but it was mixed with BNC connectors, COAX cables and CAT5 cables. It looked like a HUGE rats nest. His building flooded with this past hurricane and and its gutted right now I think it will be best to install a new system ASAP. What I am wanting to do is buy a spool of 1000' of CAT5 cable with the RH45 plug connectors. There fore I can make my own ends and have each wire the perfect distance without having any rats nest left over. Some of his cameras have the BNC / power wires coming out of them. If I run CAT5 cable with the RJ45 connectors from the DVR to the camera with the BNC connectors .. will that work with this adapter? The DVR will have RH45 ports and not the BNC connectors. I really only need one side of that adapter.. that one with the male power plug so I can plug it into the camera. Do you guys know of any that would work. Im trying to find out if this idea would work so I dont have purchase tons of new cameras
