    Avtech DVR, confused which hdd?

Many thanks to you both, I'll go for a Western Digital one.
  2. Hello I've just bought an Avtech 715 Dvr , there's a list of compatible hdd's in the back of the manual but it only suggests one 500GB hdd which is a Hitachi but I'm struggling to find one for sale anywhere. In the manual it says IDE TYPE, ATA66. Can I use any 500GB IDE drive, the manual is confusing to say the least?

Noisy DVR , DM Sprite 2 and Avtech.

Thanks for the replies, I thought I wasn't going to get any. I was going to have a look inside but that would mean breaking the seals which I don't really want to do incase I decide to sell it. I might just get an Avtech one instead, it would be much easier if I can keep it in the bedroom, the DM Sprite 2 is probably too much for what I need.
  4. Hi I know this has been discussed before as a search has revealed that many DVR's can be noisy. I've just purchased a secondhand DM Sprite 2 and I'm very disappointed at how loud the cooling fan is, not good for me as I want to have it in my bedroom with the monitor. I know this isn't unique to mine as I've just seen an identical model elsewhere which was just as loud. What are the Avtech dvr's like for noise as I might sell the DM dvr and buy a new one of these to replace it?

    Rear view car cams

Evidence in an accident, that's a strange one. If you get hit by a following vehicle they're normally always to blame as they shouldn't have been so close that they couldn't avoid a collision in the first place.

    Dedicated Micros DVR internet connection?

Thanks, just what I needed to hear. I've just bought a secondhand Sprite 2 , built in dvd, 6 chanel with a 320 gig hard drive . Paid £455 I'm thinking I should've bought a new Avtech instead for £360.
  8. Hello I was just wondering if the old version Dedicated Micros Sprite 2 DVR's have WAN and LAN connection for remote viewing via the internet. I've seen secondhand units for sale, some advertise the fact they have Wan and Lan and others don't. I've had a look on their website and I'm still confused. Thanks in advance

    Panning camera without a controller?

Haha That would be good to see, cats are great. We've got a fence right around our property but it's only 3 1/2 feet high. I think the only thing which could keep him inside would be a high brick wall which isn't practical. He's very patient if he gets tangled up, he just sits down and waits for someone to go out which we do every half hour anyway. But It will be nice to monitor him all the time via cctv. Thanks for the informative replies, very much appreciated. Best regards Andrew

    Panning camera without a controller?

The camera will be used for monitoring our pet cat. LOL We live on a busy main road so decided to use a cat harness and chord to prevent him from leaving our property. He's managed to get out of the harness acouple of times so I'm wanting to keep an eye on him to check he's okay without having to go outside every time. Day and night time viewing, colour camera. Rain, snow etc. (I was going to place a cover over the top to give protection ) Temp could be anything from -10 Celsius to + 30 Celsius. Also very low light conditions. I was wanting to place the camera low to the ground to avoid any blind spots, 180 degree panning. Mounting it on the back of the house with good access for cables etc. Image quality doesn't have to be fantastic. Would $600 max be sufficient?
  11. Edit: After a little more searching, do I need a scanner? Hello everyone , this is obviously my first post. I want to fix an external colour camera on the back of the house, one fixed camera won't cover the area that I have in mind because of the position of various out buildings. A panning camera will be ideal though. Is it possible to purchase one that doesn't require a manual controller, but can be set to pan through an angle repeadly at a specified speed. Tilting won't be necessary. What should I be looking for, I've done a fair amount of searching without success. Thanks
