  1. Hi guys, need a little of your help...how do we determinie good and bad coaxial cables? and how do we determine to the kind of cable to use for different cabling distance? will need your enlightenment
  2. Hiya, got a friend requesting for these....is it possible to connect cctv with alarm? he's currently using kodicom....he's asking is it possible to do in such a way that when there's motion detection, the alarm sounds? is it possible with kodicom? or any other DVR software provide this function?
  3. any suggestions for wiring for a factory with 16 cameras, 2 PTZs and 14 day and night infra-red camera? The longest point will be about 450 metre. any suggestions on what to use? Fibre? Baluns? or just plain RG-7 or RG-11? was considering RG7 or RG 11 but i am afraid of electrical interference since these is it is a factory....

    Remote viewing slow

Hi guys have got a little bit problem here..hope i can find some help here... I currently have a pc running on the kodicom 880 capture card, the one iwht 8 channel 200 fps, everything work perfectly smoothly on the server(cctv server i mean) side....the problem comes when i try to remotely access my cctv server for live trasmission....i'm operating on a 512 kb download and 256 kbps upload broadband connection... my connection operate on a router and that my cctv server is actually behind the router...have done all the necessary configuration like dynamic dns and port forwarding... the problem is that the trasmission of the live video seems to be very slow...for the kind of speed...i should be getting maybe getting 10-15 fps(only viewing 1 window meaning 1 camera), but sadly i am only getting like 2-4 fps...and its even worse for the webdvr...only round 1 fps...i reckon that it should be faster than that....accessing throug lan is perfectly alright...not much problem, image on the cctv pc is perfectly good...very smooth...so what could be the problem? does is lie with my router firewall? or should i setup another connection directly without going through the router so that it will be faster? any other suggestions to improve the transmission speed? please enlighten me guys..thank you very much in advance...
  5. Hi Gentlemen, does Kodicom offers a PDA software? If there is, where can i get the file? thanks
  6. well guys, thanks for all your input..anyway contacted the local reseller for NVT...has agreed to let us try it out with a loan set...well..seeing is believing...will be running a comparison test with coax...will update u guys on the results...
  7. hmm....NVT looks like a good choice....but dunno whether the picture quality will be as good as using coax... the last time i use a balun...the image came out all snowy...
  8. actually i did consider the use of balun, but discovered that the picture quality is not as good as using coax cables.... actually all the wiring is going to be like a flyover to the factory as there's quite a lot of open space from the factory office to the factory main plant and no way are we going to do it underground. along the way, we have inspected that there isn't any high voltage cabling. So i presume there shouldn't be any problem with interference.. with regards to length, RG 11 running for 1400 feet, i presume should be a problem right?
  9. anyway the place is full of machinery..... will the signal attenuates because of the machines? and will thicker and more heavy duty wires like RG 7 or RG 11 be able to withstand this instead of using RG 59 wiring? budget is not a problem...but not too expensive...
  10. Hi, i've been trying to know finding out about these h.264 compression board these few days. I have a few questions... 1. Boards with h.264 compression(hikvision), do they have better performance then the current that we have like Kodicom and Geovision in terms of recording and network viewing? 2. what does cif card means? half d-1 and full d-1? will appreciate your enlightenment...
  11. hey...mind if i ask for a copy of the gui? so i know how to go about changing them...thank you...
  12. hey i want it too.. weeping83@yahoo.co.uk
  13. There's quite a lot of choice in the market. Basically they all work the same...its just price and personal liking... Kodicom is pretty good and geovison is not bad either..but 16 cameras on 120 frame...its pretty jerky... maybe you shold consider at least 240 frame....
  14. Hi, is there any place i can get kodicom update patches and is there any place i can get the geovision webdvr installer?
  15. Hi guys, any idea where can i get updates for Kodicom diginet? the kodicom site does not seem to offer any update patches...

    Kodicom PDA viewer

    Thanks a million
  17. i think your camera plays a part too. Resolution(TV Line) for your camera plays a big part. Its not noticeable when u connect directly to the tv but its really very obvious when u connect to the video card. Next is your lens. You should be able to get crystal clear view if you use at least 8mm lenses with a decent camera.if you are using like 4 mm...or wider ones...etc...then u will not get crystal clear as the details when u look at the screen become smaller and hence u feel the lack of clarity...this is what i have experienced.Perhaps u can give it a try..

    UTP cabling

Hi people, need to setup a network for a client as he wants to remotely view his cctv from another part of the building. The problem his the cctv server PC and his PC is quite far apart and that his hub is in his office where his own pc is. So to create a network i need to put cable a UTP to his office. But the distance is like around 190 metres but cat 5 utp standards is only 100m. Does cat 5e allow me to this distance? or if i exceeds this 100 metre, what is the affect like? sever signal loss to the point that the network cannot be detected? please enlighten me...thank you

  21. Hi peeps, i seem to be experiencing problem with the kodicom 4400 and 8800 video capture card because of incompatible motherboard. Care to share what is the best mainboard around for kodicom as well as geovision? thank you!!!
  22. Hi, i need to wire up a certain place for cctv. the distance is around 2000 ft.What sort of wiring should i use? RG 59 or RG 6? what is the max extendable length for both? if both is not supported for such long distance what can i use?

    Wiring Lengths

cat 5 amplified utp will give me 3000 feet?

    Wiring Lengths

hi, generally i need to wire up around 6 cameras which are around 1000 metre away from my dvr. If i were to use cat 5 utp or even fibre, it would be damn costly.= ) if i were to use RG6 with signal amplifier, how long can i stretch assuming its ok if there is a slight signal loss?
