Monitor network traffic from IP cameras

Hummm.... we use a d-link GB router and it does not have any type of monitoring tools like that. What routers are popular with IP camera installers? Thanks
  2. Hello, I am having a hard time learning how to tell how much upload bandwidth a camera will use. I have tried an online calculator I found but that did not seem to be very accurate. Can someone please help me learn how to tell how much upload bandwidth a camera will use? Is there a formula to figure that out? Most of our clients have about 2Mbsp upload... We have been using analog cams but we are trying to move to IP cams... I dont see how that is possible with these upload speeds... Our average client has 16 cameras... And will have approx. 10 people connected at any one time.
  3. Hello, anyone know how to play the rtsp stream from a dahua camera?? I have port 554 forwarded to the cameras ip. I am trying to open this in both quicktime and vlc player with NO luck. rtsp://admin:admin@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:554/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=1 This link came off the dahua support site. Anyone know what the problem could be? Thanks
  4. I see how to change the video lost images... but is there a way to change the small logo in the top right?
  5. Hello, can someone tell me what tool you guys use to monitor network traffic? I see people talking about how they change the bitrate of a camera and how affects their network traffic. I would like to know how much traffic is going on, on the network. Thanks
  6. Hello, I am very familiar with port forwarding.... but I cant seem to change the rtsp port on this hikvision camera. There is no error when I change it from 554 to 3005 or whatever... It saves and restarts. Then I forward the port in the router.... but the port still shows closed when I scan it or try to stream through it. I can change it on all my dahua cams with no problem. Anyone run into this before? Thanks
  7. I am glad you wrote back... I was not 100% clear on this. They are set to CBR. So if the bitrate is set to 1024kbps. Then the upload speed would need 1Mbps for that one camera? So 16 cameras would need 16Megs up... wow... plus overhead. Do you know a good consultant for live streaming video like this? We are trying to stream a decent quality out of these ip cams to a decent sized audience. I have set up wowza... and it works.. .but there are some real bandwidth issue. It seems like there is a missing piece to the puzzle. Thanks again. I appreciate it.
  8. I am trying to use this calculator to figure out how much upload bandwidth we need. http://www.stardot.com/bandwidth-and-storage-calculator It asks for "average frame size" but I dont know what that is. I dont see that setting in our camera. I have these values: Type = h264 Resolution = D1 Number of cams = 16 Frame rate per camera = 5 Any idea what I should put in for "average frame size"? Thanks
  9. Thank you so much for the info. So calculate how much upload speed we need from our ISP... We just need to do: 4096 kb/s TIMES the number of cameras we have right? Or actually 4096 kb/s TIMES the number of remote users we will have connected at one time. Thanks

    Dahua MJPEG URL

Hello, I see that I can set my dahua ip camera to MJPEG. But I cannot find out how to connect to the mjpeg stream. Most systems give you an mjpeg url. Does anyone know the mjpeg url for dahua? Thanks
  11. Hello, I searched but did not find any info on embeding the video from a dahua nvr into your own web page. Does anyone know how this is done? Thanks
  12. Thanks. When you browse out to the local ip of the nvr... It shows you the video in that page... I thought you could just take the code from that page... And maybe change the local ip in the code... to their static ip.... and it would work that way... We are going to install one tomorrow... so I dont have it to test on yet.. Was just trying to get a headstart on it. thanks
  13. Anyone know where the geovision username database is? I looked in the GV1240/database folder... I found a .mdb file camed sys.... but i opened it and thats only system info. There is no mdb in that directory that even looks related to usernames etc. Also, I added a user to geovision... then checked the database by "date modified". The sys mdb i mentioned was the only one modified at that time... Anyone know where the user db is on geovision?? I want to automatically back i up each night... thanks
  14. Hello, I installed GeoVision's mobile serer. It gives you an MJPEG url... but they do not say how to display the video in a browser. I tried a basic html video tage... nothing happens. Anyone know how to get MJPEG video into the browser? thanks
  15. I will answer my own question. You set the mjpeg url to be the src of an img tag. thats it.
  16. Hello, anyone know hikvision cameras provide an mjpeg url? I cant find anything about it online. If not mjpeg... do they provide a java applet to play their snapshots through? One last thing.... does anyone know if it is possible to get direct access to the hikvision nvr. Like through ssh, ftp etc. I would like to be able to upload a web page to the nvr that has a java or mjpeg form of the video embeded on it. I would also like to be able to customize the pages the users see when they login. Anyone know how to access one of these NVR's? thanks
  17. setting the url i posted as the source of an
  18. I installed geovision Mobile server... and I see how to check to allow the mjpeg stream. What is the mjpeg url though? How do you access the mjpeg video? Thanks
  19. OK, the other cameras I have tested the rtsp link with quicktime player worked... These hikivision cams would not play through quicktime player but this does work in vlc. rtsp://admin:12345@192.168.1.120:554/Streaming/Channels/1
  20. Yep I tried all those... Question. those are supposed to point to the camera right? Not to the NVR? I was trying those links with the ip of the camera...
  21. Hello, we just switched to IP cams after 11 years with analog... Is there a way to use ip cameras with a gigabit network? There does not seem to be since these NVRs and cams dont seem to support it. Dahua cameras and NVRs. Things are great with 4 or 5 cameras but when you get over about 8 it really slows down... Any suggestions? We have put in a gigabit router at one location and it did seem to help.. though I know that it is not recommended to mix gigabit and non-gigabit on the same network... thanks
  22. Well I am trying quicktime player to test it.... I have used quicktime player to test the rtsp stream from dahuah cameras with no problem... I just dont know what the rtsp url of these cameras is....
  23. Thanks... yeah I found that earlier today and tried many different variations of it... I am looking for the rtsp url from a hikvision camera, not the nvr. Thanks for trying.
  24. Thanks. I will check with the dealer.
  25. Hello, I went to the Hikvision website looking for updated firmware for one of their cameras but the site is very confusing and I could not find the latest firmware... Does anyone know of a site that has the latest firmware for hikvision cameras? Thanks
