  1. Regarding day/night versions of Arecont. I was confused as well that they dont have auto iris support and dropped email to Arecont support which was replied as "Digital cameras dont need AI lenses as they digitally correct amount of light. Analog cameras cant do that, so they need auto iris to decrease bright sun for example. Auto Iris as fact will dissapear in next few years." To be honest, Arecont cameras are fantastic value for money at day time, but crap at night Picture quality is not that you would expect. Lot of noise, blurry moving objects. Haven`t tried IQinvision, but have heard that they are more better, so costing more as well. I usually use lot of light when installing Arecont DN cameras, as least 500w illuminator with motion detection sensor with Philips/Osram 2000h bulb. I think some years will go till megapixel cameras will start beating analog cameras at night. Also - doing all settings is quite painful thing. DO NOT try saving money on lense, Arecont ones are CRAP. Use Tamron, Fujinon or Computar.
  2. I can suggest this very easy and friendly software I`m using, its from Dallmeier. http://www.dallmeier-electronic.com/en/products-electronic/cameras/view-designer.html

First Megapixel IP CCTV System Install

    1. See the chart I have made myself. I spent WEEKS looking for lenses, resolutions, sending dozens of emails to manufacturers. YES, lenses must be MEGAPIXEL. Not every lense will support 3mpix resolution and you will end up in blurry and foggy images. You can find these lenses by searching google, just type in lense model number and online shops will come up. 2. Its called CS/C adapter ring if I`m not wrong. They do cost something like 8$. 3.You you are going to use IR illuminators, then you need IR sensitive lense. If you are going to use normal light, then you dont need IR lense. http://img156.imageshack.us/my.php?image=18379880we5.jpg http://img156.imageshack.us/my.php?image=33369025lb6.jpg Good luck!
  4. Hello there, Question about megapixel lenses for CCTV cameras like Arecont Vision, IQinvision. There are some lenses which are meant to be used only with cameras up to 1.3 megapixel, but some can be used up to 5 megapixel. Tried to contact Tamron, Computar, Fujinon and Pentax - some dont even reply, some just keep forwarding me to other people etc. So, question from here, which lenses can be used for what resolution? Best regards, Robert
  5. Hi guys, AV1300DN/AV1300AI - which one would you choose for 24h recording for your yard? My opinion: if you choose DN, then you wont get auto iris support and bright sunlight at daytime will give poor image. If you choose AI then daytime will be fine, but at night you wont get black&white mode and you wont get proper video at night. Anybody please comment this Also - anobody can tell me what format lenses can you mount on what format cameras? For example - can you mount 2/3 lense on 1/2 camera? Regards, Robert

  9. Hi guys, Can anybody explain tell anything more about these two type or cards? Rory did say: "As I understand it (someone correct me if I am wrong) the hardware compression card will compress the video before it is sent through the PCI slot, while with the software compression cards, the raw video is sent without compression." Or its just simple as that - if you have software based compression card you need more powerful PC? Thanks

    are lenses mounts standard?

Lenses have their standart called "CS". If you camera does support CS lens then you can buy any CS lens and swap it.
  11. Hi guys, Been reading loads, but too much again is confusing Rory - your posts are VERY useful! Few questions: 1.As I under balun is used to run power and video via cat5.By using this balun set I can just run one cat5 cable from analog camera to DVR/PCI DVR card and that's it ? 2.Difference between active and passive balun ? 3.Whats the maximum run can be on coax before it will start loosing signal? P.S. I just came back from exhibition is Moscow - Security Technologies 2008 and saw there running CCTV camera via 1.5km coax and still showing 5.If we are running power and video with baluns via cat5 - whats the maximum run then can be ? 6.Lets say I`m running coax and power cable - what will be the maximum power cable run before it will start loosing power ? 5. PCI DVR cards - what is the maximum fps PCI slot can hold at 704x576 ? 6.When looking at PCI DVR cards some say "REAL TIME 8 Camera DVR PCI Card".What does real time means and what would be "non real time" then? 7.What is the difference between these two cards? Thanks in advance
  12. Rory - links are answer to my question! thanks
  13. Q5 - I meant computer motherboard PCI slot,it must have some data throughtput,so what is it? how many fps at what resolution? Lets say can I plug PCI DVR 16ch card - will PCI slot be able to run 16 cameras ar 25fps max resolution ? Q7 - I meant whats the difference in connectors - why one card has them direcly on card and other uses pigtail ? Is there a difference which one to use ? Thanks Rory
  14. But where will you get power for IP camera? it needs power source as well
