Range: A low cost IR LED has the range of less than 40 meters while a good & expensive Thermal Infrared Surveillance Camera System can detect heat up to a distance of 1 Km. A good & expensive IR LED has the range of up to 250 meters. Price: Thermal Infrared Surveillance Camera System are expensive than CCTV IR LED Security Camera.
