omg i need some DVR help, calling all cctv pros

Hi and welcome to the forum... I think there is about 2 million DVR's to choose from and all great lines of DVR's. You may want to consider the JS Series DVR. Depending upon your frame rate and resolution requirements, it is well within your budget. We can provide access to our demo XLA and you can see for yourself if the quality is what you are looking for. An image speaks a thousand words. Visit our site and click "Live Demo Access". We will send information on how to access. Then take it one step further and post if anyone has any experience with this DVR. Please don't take my word only. I want to hear others rave about the performance as well. I could go on and on but it is the only DVR we install in our local market. Thanks Mike

Help installing a PTZ security camera

Well, no one can say you did not try. You absolutely convinced me that the camera is defective. You exhausted every troubleshooting technique and I applaud you for that. It was a pleasure working with you. Please let us know how you make out. Thanks Mike

Help installing a PTZ security camera

Hi George, Did you change the dips in the camera to 2400?? If so, I would agree that the PTZ is defective.

Help installing a PTZ security camera

Hi George. I have to admit that when I did take those readings, I was surprised not to find 5VDC. That's why I mentioned as a matter of reference considering you have the same set up. I just took another reading without the "load" and read .45 and .25. I took this one step further... You mentioned you have this set at 19200. I set mine ( DVR ) at 19200 and I get the same readings BUT little or no change when attempting to move the cam. Hmmmm, throttle down the DVR to 2400 and take a reading. I think you will find it will drop in half. The resistor is often needed when you have multiple PTZ's. When only using one, there is no need for it and often times it depends.

Help installing a PTZ security camera

Hi George, OK, I see... There is no reason why this configuration should not work. A few things... 1. You may want to insure your cat 5 connectors are installed correctly, i.e. color coding as per the balun directions 2. Set the cam and DVR to 2400 3. As a matter of reference, I took a voltage reading at the RS-485 on my JS. In the neutral position I read .65VDC. When I move the cam, the voltage drops to .30VDC. I wonder if the 25-pin connector block is defective. So if you have voltage there, that would suggest that connector block is OK. Remember, I have the exact same set up ( less the baluns )so you should see the same results. BTW, I took this reading directly from the screws on the block with the camera connected. 4. If you do have voltage then move to the cam and test there. If you do not have voltage at the cam then either one of the baluns is defective or your RJ45 connector is wired incorrectly on either end. 5. How far is the PTZ from the power supply?? My ACD works fine using cat 5, video, data and power at 70'. Although video and data will go great distances, power on the other hand will suffer greatly. It's a leap as you did say the cam does cycle when first powered up. Hope this helps. Mike

Help installing a PTZ security camera

Hi George, No, not to my knowledge. Have accidentally reversed them on my ACD with no ill affects. Did you remove the baluns?? Is the 25 pin connector block securely attached?? I have also found with a few of these cams that the dip switches are a little touchy. I have had to switch them on and off so to speak and it worked. Any reason why you have decided to go 19200 instead of the default of 2400?? Just curious Thanks Mike

Please insure the polarity is correct on the back of the DVR. If they are reversed, it will not work. Also on the back of the DVR, the bottom row of the green connector blocks, you are connecting to the extreme left one, correct?? I have the exact same set up. Additionally, there is no need for the baluns for the data. You may want to remove them. That may be the problem. I have my cat 5 connected directly to the data lines on the camera and connected directly into the DVR. I only use the baluns for the video. Thanks Mike

Fixed Lens camera needs to have a varifocal lens sugestions?

Hi Brian, Not easily if at all. I am very familiar with this camera. Have installed both this cam and the vari-focal model as well. I want to point out an issue I found with this camera. After about 6 months in service I was called back because water had penetrated the housing. This happened on 2 cameras on the same property from the same order. What I had to do is remove the glass from the front and seal them with waterproof sealant. Since then they have been fine. If that rubber seal does not sit just right, I believe that's where the water was getting in. Otherwise a nice camera.

    Best NightVision Camera

Brianoftheforum, I can obtain and post those images of this camera as per your request. If the weather clears here tomorrow, I will adjust the camera to full zoom and capture both day and night images for you. By the way, I wish they were my cars. Those images were taken from a local customer's system ( with permission of course ) so the images I post will be different but it will be the same model camera. Thanks Mike

What I have done is to "hide" that product from being displayed and available on our site until I can obtain clarification on the specs. I am sure it is a typo but want to be sure before I change it. Thanks again for pointing that out to me. Mike

    Best NightVision Camera

Hi ak357, Your reply is a valid one. Lots of factors impact performance. I rely on the manufacturer/distributor printed documentation, and mainly rely on performance to determine which cameras I recommend and use. Additionally, I look at the overall camera, the way it is built, ease of mounting, does it have a cable managed bracket, IP rating, etc. Just to mention a few. Specs can be misleading especially with regard to IR distance. I have gone through many cams and when I find one that works for me and my customers, I tend to stick with it and share my experience. I am not disputing your point at all and I really appreciate your pointing it out. Thanks Mike

When all else fails ....Go Wireless?

I'll second the nice install comment... Have you experienced a full moon yet with this camera?? It will look like daytime. Truly amazing! Two images from my PTZ. One with assistance from a cam with IR's and the other with just the light from the full moon. Nope, believe it or not, that is not a spot light, only the IR from the camera installed on the corner looking in that direction. Although in the business, this stuff never ceases to amaze me at times.

Confusion about NTSC DVR in PAL region...

Hi Florian, Thanks for your kind words. It has been a pleasure. Although the manual says it can be switched between NTSC and PAL, the only video format that actually is selectable is NTSC. The manual is VERY generic. I would assume it depends on the firmware installed and the only firmware available to me is the current firmware. If you log into my demo again and select config, general tab you will notice that the video format is disabled. I have actually considered removing the manual from my site as it does create some confusion at times and is extremely difficult to follow. That's why I created several videos in an effort to explain some of the more generic set up functions. I considered PM'ing you but thought I would clarify this on the forum so others could see it as well. I look forward to others replying, as I too am curious and want to learn more with regard to your valid concerns. Thanks Mike

16ch DVR - Intellicam or Argus?

Hey alpine0000, Thanks so much for your kind words regarding our support. It really is and was a pleasure. I also have had UPS's do this exact same thing. I have arrived on a property only to have to reset the UPS BUT had to return again as it did the same thing. I ended up replacing it and it has been OK since. Anyway, I wish you a safe return to the states and also want to thank you for the service you provide to our country in what ever capacity you are serving. I was once in the military and I appreciate the sacrifice. Shoot me an email when you return or give me a call and let me know how you make out. Thanks again!! Mike

Samsung SVR440 port forwarding on BT Home Hub

Hi and welcome to the forum... No experience with this unit but my first thought was did you reboot the DVR?? I do have experience with similiar set ups whereas you have to reboot in order for the DVR to send that info. It's a shot in the dark but I thought I would throw it out there. Hope this helped. Mike

    Hard Disk Reformat

Hi, I found the manual for this DVR here and on page 76, it explains how to format ( or initialize as they call it ). http://www.retrevo.com Type in the model number in the search and you should get a result, which has a link to download the manual. Not familiar with this unit so I cannot answer your question regarding reloading software, etc. I don't think so though. I would assume it to be an IDE drive. If formatting does not help and I suspect it will not, pull the drive and simply buy one that has the same specs. I hope this helped and good luck with your effort. Thanks Mike
