Has anyone tried Windows 7 with Geovision

I've been running a geo 1000 on a quad core (q6600) and recently upgraded to a 1480A and 8.3.2. I'll let you know if the quad core works with that.

    Geovision and Via audio

I know the via chipsets have problems with the Geo boards but what about the via audio. I'm thinking of this board. ASUS P5QL/EPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131393&Tpk=ASUS%20P5QL%2fEPU it's an intel chipset but has via audio. suggestions?
  3. I've recently rebuilt my old gv1000 with a gv1480A. I'm using a Asus p5kpl-AM motherboard, q6600, 2 gigs ram and onboard intel graphics (x4500). Brand new install of windows (new hard drives), card and version 8.3.1 The system runs for 1-3 hours and logs a video lost and then crashes. We put a different monitor on it for one day and the system worked all day.....then we changed the monitor and it crashed in 1 1/2 hours after we closed our business. Yesterday I uninstalled software, deleted registry settings, all folders I could find and reinstalled system. I know I must have missed some since my settings and passwords worked without resetting. System ran for 11 hours and crashed in middle of night. I'm clueless. Couple of questions. Could an old CRT monitor do something like this? I'm using onboard graphics. Would running a nvidia 8600 (or other suggestion) be a good idea? I was on geovision site. They are showing version 8.3.2 software now. One of the fixes is "lost video". Good idea? Generally mine just crashes saying the software is incompatible with your location (or something like that) Then it says it cant referance memory at 0x0000000x00. Windows has never crashed. Using XP pro with all service packs except IE8 installed. Long post. Thanks for any ideas.

Video lost, memory error and 8.3.2

Hard to compare to Vista though, lol Wonder if 8.3.2 officially supports windows7... Now that would be nice. I like 7.

Video lost, memory error and 8.3.2

I contacted Geovision and they gave me a link to download 8.3.2 software and driver. They were pretty "matter of fact" that this would correct the problem. They gave me a link and i'm downloading it now. I will report back in a day or so when I get it installed and see if it works ok. I did see in the "bug" fixes that "lost video" was a fix. Crossing my fingers.

Video lost, memory error and 8.3.2

Yep, PCIe card. Power connected to it although I will double check a second time. Best I can tell it's a "real" card. Box says comboA card and chips say geovision on them.....although that doesn't mean much. I do have the hologram on box and serial #/barcode. The seller is local and has security business so I doubt that it's fake. Unless of course he doesn't know. I will have to attack the geo ini files possibly. I got all the files in "multicam" and manually deleted registry. It would that the power is the issue since it runs for hours before crashing. And it crashed in the middle of the night with the least possible amount of juice needed. How would I determine a NTSC version? Other than that is what I set things at in the software.

Video lost, memory error and 8.3.2

Ok, happened again. Went about 5 hours this time. I got video lost on all cameras. Here is the error(s) ================================= This software is incompatible with your location (then I clicked ok) The instruction at "0x00000000" referenced memory at "0x0000000" the memory could not be "read" Click OK to terminate the program. ============================================ After that I have to reboot the whole computer to get it to run again.

    Vista or XP

Does it matter? Will be building a new system and wondering if there is any advantage or disadvantage. I'm guessing all the other computers these folks own use xp. Not sure if there are conflicts with remote view, multiview etc. Thanks again! Todd Also, i've been using onboard graphics GMA3100. Is there much of a quality difference if I pop a video card in instead. I'm thinking an 8600GT or any other recomended card?

    8.2 software disk

I'm not sure this is even legal. We have 3 systems with 8.1 software. Currently i've built another one with 8.2 software. Since we have the disk....Can we just install that software onto the other gv-1480 systems. Since you can download the software...Can we just copy the disk? Anyone know if it's copy protected? Anyone know of any issues with a hardware change that could affect us. The oldest gv-1480 is about a year old.

    8.2 software disk

640x480 and the H264 (not the v2) I'm really amazed at the compression. I've got 1 terrabyte of space on my old geo1000 card and can tape 20-30 days. I have not done any masking on this system and have it plugged into my cameras for testing until it gets picked up and we are only using about 1 gig a day. I figure I might get 600+ days with a 750 gig hard drive. I keep thinking i'm missing something but everything seems to work great. That DSP setting really kicks butt with how things look. I'm just amazed at the quality of the realtime monitoring with that. I really want one of these new cards VS. my Geo 1000.

Awesome, thanks a bunch!! That will make life much easier

    8.2 software disk

When you upgrade, do you need to uninstall the old software completely or will it just upgrade. I'm assuming you would have to reset all of your masking, and location settings for hard drives etc. Or does it save those settings and make it really simple, lol.

    shimmering problem gv 1480

A little more goofing around. Found if I disable DSP the shimmering goes away but the video is not as smooth. It's incredible how good it looks with the DSP turned on but anywhere there is a lot of light or even looking down at a row of pegboard hooks from the top, they seem to shake. With it off, that goes away but the video is nowhere as smooth. Anyone work with this yet?

    shimmering problem gv 1480

Built a new system: GV-1480 V8.2 Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L motherboard with Intel GMA3100 onboard graphics. Intel E7200 2 gigs ddr2800 ram Plugged into my existing cameras that have been hooked into a gv1000 using 6.0 software. The video is much smoother than the GV1000 I have in place. But.. When viewing a single camera (#1), the video is shimmering or looks shakey. I cannot enable direct draw overlay, or it's grayed out. Any ideas? I'm thinking the onboard graphics are not good enough. I thought I had used this onboard graphics with versions 8.1 or lower software and didn't have any issues. Suggestions and thanks.
  15. New question. We set up a new 1480 system with 16 cameras. (old cameras) About 1/2 of the cameras record every 5 minutes. EXACTLY every five minutes. The others are working on motion like we would like them to. I had him check the "motion record, day/night, round the clock" settings and it says record on motion. What am I missing? I'm guessing I set something wrong for these cameras but i'm baffled. Thanks

    Tv out-multiplexor-switcher

I'm not camera savy so I'll try to frame this question the best I can. I've helped build a few systems but the newest one has me stumped. Were intalling a Geo 1480 and will attach 16 cameras. Currently he has a system that uses vcr tapes, a multiplexor and a switcher. We plan to put the Pc in the office and he has 8 coax cables that run to a switcher in the front of his store to a small 9" monitor. They can switch between any of the cameras or just let it scan from the front area by pushing the buttons on the switcher. Is there any way to use the TV out on the 1480 to this "switcher" so they can scroll cameras or will he be stuck with whatever is set in the geo system to display on the tv out. They would like some "control" at the front using only the switcher and a monitor. Thanks for any help.

    Tv out-multiplexor-switcher

Just an update. He had a sprite multiplexor in the office and the other switch was up front. We got rid of the multiplexor. We put a BNC splitter at the computer and sent the signal up to the switch. Everything seems to work fine. They can control the monitor at the front with the switch like they could earlier. Thanks for all the help!!!

    Tv out-multiplexor-switcher

Ok, starting to make sense. I think they are only looking at 4 cameras on that monitor so the 8 cables would make sense. 4 in and 4 out. I'll take a look at it when I get there. Awesome help BTW. Much appreciated. System set up was: Asus p5GC-MX\1333 motherboard onboard graphics intel E4500 2 gig pc 6400 4-4-4-12 Corsair memory WD SATA 160GB drive (system only) WD mybook external 500gig for storage (hidden in wall) GV-1480 Samsung DVD RW Windows XP pro Antec Sonata 3 case First system up and running and doing well with this set up. Second system identical except for the storage hard drive which is a 750gig segate

    Tv out-multiplexor-switcher

Ok, thanks for the replies. How would we "loop" it to the 1480. We will have 16 cables comming into the system from the cameras. Then there are the cables that go to the switcher and then to the monitor, that are also by the DVR. I'm guessing we need some more hardware. I've never done this before, so sorry for being a noob. I've built a few systems with the Geo cards but have never been faced with this.

I will try and get more info on his switcher. About all I know about it is it has 8 coax cables as input. Sorry for the lack of info.
