  1. DamonC

    Hi from SoCal

I'm a post-production editor for my day job, work with video and sound all the time in varied codecs, wrappers, compression, et al. BUT, when it comes to CCTV and the solutions out there, I'm eager to learn to a point where I can build my own system vs buying the pre-made solutions. Since I'm the nerd of the family, I answered the call and was tasked to install a PoE Swann NVR 8 camera setup in one house, and a LOREX 8 cam NVR in another home. I am underwhelmed by remote interface design from both companies but for a quick CCTV solution in time of need, they work fine for the money. The goal is the build my own solution for home. I hope by joining this community of CCTV nerds, I can pick the proverbial gray matter of you with major CCTV prowess. Glad to be here, looking forward to learning more.
  2. Recent rains were too much even for a tightly wrapped but definitely not moisture-proof connection from an exterior Cat6 cable to the LOREX E841CAB-Z camera tucked inside a front yard bush. Both the Cat6 connector and the female camera connector had visible corrosion. Cut and replaced the Cat6 connector but upon slicing off the camera female connector, 6 wires.... what?!! Everyone with 6 wires seems to have purple, but my colors are different. Any insight on how the pinouts might go that would allow it to play nice with my Cat6 cable? Camera 6 Wires: Green Green and White Orange Orange and White Brown Blue Cat6 8 wires: Orange and White Orange Green and White Blue Blue and White Green Brown and White Brown Thanks.
