  1. I contacted http://www.sunsurveillance.com/ and spoke to them for a while. They build systems specific to the area of the country they would be installed in. Not really a solution geared toward a small residential install unless that person has the money to spend for such a small return. My customer wanted to have the camera mounted at the camp and wirelessly transmitted down to his house. YES....it can definitely be done but at a cost like every other special application.
  2. Using my NUUO DVR and this snapshot taken on my home PC (so done remotely). This is a dumbed down printscreen shot of an ACTi 7411 and an unmarked 500TVL bullet camera side by side. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the difference here I installed the latest firmware and profile on the 7411 last night so I did not touch any of the default image settings.
  3. I just got off the phone with Bell Canada (my ISP) and bandwidth is limited to 60GB per month total. It would cost me $5 more per month to add another 40GB and they will allow me to do this upgrade 3 time per month so I could add an additional 120GB for $15 extra per month. I just started up my ACTi ACM-4200 at home and I'm recording it back at my office. I have the resolution set to 1.3MP (1280x1024) the frame rate is currently at 1 and I dropped the bitrate down to 500. I'm no math wiz that's for sure but if the camera is running 24hrs/day 7 days/week how much usage could I see my self using per month? Oh ya it is streaming Mpeg4 but it would be great if there was a calc where I can simply change it to H.264 or MJPEG and see the bandwidth differences on the fly. Is there an online calc someplace that allows you to put this detail in there where it will spit me out an answer? OH YA! I would like my cake and eat it too!

    PC Based System

I think NUUO probably supports the most but many more MFG's are coming on board supporting a large assortment of models. Best bet is to select which cameras you want and to look at the supported list for the NVR's your interested in. Or pick the NVR you're interested in and select from the list of supported cameras

    NUUO NVR

Well the only NUUO Embedded is the Mini which you could add hard drives to. They have a 4, 8 and 16 channel version, no PC required for NVR. Mini looks like a small NAS box in and of itself. The downside for me going with the NUUO Mini route is that it is underpowered, limited bandwidth and it is headless meaning it needs to me managed remotely because there is no monitor connectivity.
  6. Well I'm using up about 2.1G per day in bandwidth with the camera set to 640x480 and 1FPS. You know being limited on bandwidth really stinks. You would think paying over $120 for the phone and internet service that I would be happy....noooooooooooooo, download should be about 7Mbps and I'm lucky if I get 2 and upload is supposed to be up to 1Mbps but it's all useless if I'm limited with the services I pay for. Leave it to Canada technology to hold back the public again from doing what most of the world can do. Even cell phone plan are horrible here so my plan is from the states where I get more minutes and can sign a contract for less than a 3 year term and all for about half the price! MAN! Looks like I'll stop my remote recording otherwise they want me to spend even more on my plan to increase it another 40G. ARGH
  7. I'm thinking about picking up an Atom PC to test out the NVR software on it. Has anyone tried an Atom based PC with NUUO yet? I figure I may have to pick up a low profile compatible video card. I'd like to see how well 4 run and then move up to 8 cameras and test CPU utilization in each configuration.
  8. Not sure I understand the question. The camera is located at my residence in Canada but it is being recorded on my NUUO NVR back at my office in the U.S. He's asking why you can't record it locally (at your residence) and then just playback the video from remote when you need to. Oh, is that what's being asked? I still don't get that question from the way it is phrased. Maybe it's me but anyhow here is the response I don't record from home because all my equipment is at my office in the U.S. and getting equipment back and fourth through customs is a daunting task. I know the NVR is really software and I can put it on a PC I already have at home but... the NVR is a demo system and I was just trying to show a remote recording can be done using an IP camera offsite someplace.
  9. Not sure I understand the question. The camera is located at my residence in Canada but it is being recorded on my NUUO NVR back at my office in the U.S.
  10. Thanks Soundy. Great idea, I will have to fire up my Windows based PC at home LOL! I'll monitor it locally to see what it is sending. I thought of using the built in motion on the ACM-4200 but I truelly was not sure how much this would limit through put as I thought the live video would still be going to the NVR and thus still using bandwidth. If the data stream would completely halt so a live stream is not going to the NVR until the motion is triggered then that would work. Not much action where I have the camera.
  11. You're right it is BS but I hear my ISP is not the only one who have caps in Canada. No wonder Canada is always behind in technology, the cell phone plans are nuts here also so thankfully I have my business cell with nationwide plus canada! I unfortunately am stuck with what I have. I'm lucky to have DSL. Trust me I thought of LOS but being a 15 mile drive to the office I doubt I can make it there through the hilly terrain here even if LOS is shorter than the drive. I have no other ISP to pick from over here. I even called tonight to see if I can get a faster package but I have the best they can offer in my location 7Mbps down and they said up to 1Mbps up.
  12. Thanks for the link, I guess I'll have to trim way back on quality and resolution cause I'm going to use it all up in no time. Really stinks being limited on bandwidth. Max I can get from them is 180GB total bandwidth. Guess I won't be able to do this. ARGH They are limiting the total bandwidth useage per month. I am allowed 60GB of total usage per month (upload + download = total). I can purchase, what they called it (bandwidth insurance), additional bandwidth at 40GB for $5 additional per month. The limit is at my home. My office is in the states so I have no limit from my ISP there.
  13. Dear 3RDIGLBL, System hang may be caused by various reasons. I would like to know more details, such as What is main console's version? Video resolution Video quality Is recording on? motion record or always record Is smart guard on? Does lowering the number of cameras help? Down to which number of cameras can the system stop hanging? Or does it always hang there? If you don't mind, you may send more details to service@nuuo.com and then we can make a deeper diagnosis for your system. Sincerely Yours, NUUO Tech Support I will not be able to get this anytime soon. Customer is more than 2 hours away and they do not have remote access. But I'll try to answer what I know off the top of my head. - We are not using smart guard - motion detection is turned on for all channel and we are masked what is not important - Maybe this will help with the console version 20091016_3.2.8.4_autorun -Video resolution? The recorded video resolution? The recorded video resolution is set to highest, D1 for the 4 analog and my 5 mp cameras are the Arecont 3130's. -Video quality I believe is set at Highest but would have to verify What happens is when the console is running and you want to playback the system will hang for seconds before going into playback. Sometimes it hangs for 30 plus seconds and sometimes it's a little shorter. Not sure what is causing the CPU to taxi so much where it will make this Core 2 Quad with 4G memory halt. I had the PC built for us and realized they had put AVG on there so we removed that and that helped with the lagging enough so the customer is not complaining about it anymore. The delay is still there but not as bad as what it was. While you are hear has NUUO tested any of the Atom processors? If so what kind of success have you had? Have you updated your approved video card list and equipment list. Last time I built a PC I had a hard time trying to find the approved equipment on the NUUO list because a lot of it was discontinued or hard to find.
  14. The 330 will run 10-20 megapixel cameras without a problem Doubt you will do that with NUUO unless someone can tell me otherwise. From what I've seen with a Core 2 Quad I have a tough time seeing this done with NUUO.
  15. I have build 330 systems and they work very well you just have to know the limitations. You tried it with Exacq right? Proabably operates more efficiently.
  16. Your replies have been helpful. I have not tried any of the Atom systems so I guess my expectation are a bit high. Considering the performance issue I was seeing with the Core 2 Quad I installed it is a bit much I think to expect the Atom to be smooth running. Guess I'll scrap the Atom plan. They have the small Core 2 Quad systems on there as well which are inexpensive and I bet would perform much better with NUUO.
  17. I was actually looking on neweggs website at the barebones mini-computers. They have some really great pricing that is encouraging me to buy one for testing. They have the Atom 330 Dual core and they have an Atom 230 in a foxconn case for like $95. That's crazy. I think I'll have better luck with a Dual core atom although they have a couple MSI's that are core 2 quads for under $200. Check it out.
  18. Running Core 2 Quad with 5 Arecont 3130 cameras (not the H.264 version) and 5 Analog cameras.

    Bad interference in Geovision

Did you fix the issue you were having? Curious to see what was causing it if you have.

    Over the air analog

Same but different subject. I have a customer that would like to broadcast local events in their town using a video camcorder. I plan to use a wireless feed with an Access Point sitting high in mid-town on a firestation tower and the other antenna will be portable and is planned to be used within a 2 mile radius of the AP. The building that has the AP has a Fiber link directly to the local cable station so I need to be able to take a fully analog live video feed from a camcorder, encode it, transmit it wirelessly to the access point, decode it back so that it can be transmitted over fiber. I would need to encode both the video and audio. While we are on the subject of the analog over wireless discussion this may fit right in.
  21. I don't believe the 5116 is available here in the states. At least a few months back it was not when I wanted to try one out. I can't comment on it's performance. tomcctv, what was the reason for the 5216 replacement? Customer did not like one or more of the reported performance flaws that have been widely discussed?
  22. I agree about the EH5216+. It has it's flaws and they are most annoying. I've spoke to a few folks that have communicated issues with Avermedia and no one is sure if the issue will be resolved. I like the unit, it's priced right but it is a bit crippled. HOWEVER, the EH5216 will record in Megapixel (1.3MP across all channel and 3MP only on channel 16) I've been reading about the SA series but I can find anywhere where it states that it records in MP resolution. Wonderful it supports all these IP cameras but can any of the SA models models record in MP resolutions?

    street cctv cameras

LOL! Very well typed Soundy. I actually read that without hesitation and realized it was shorthand when I went back to actually look at the words I guess I chat too much and it's almost a second language that I've learned to accept.
  24. I ran into an interesting issue today during an install. My customer is currently under construction and in the old section of his store he want me to connect a couple temporary analog cameras to give him coverage of a couple key spots. I am using all cat 5 cables with baluns. Anyhow, connected the camera to his Avermedia EH5216+ Hybrid DVR. He has 3 other dome cameras currently flush mounted into the drop ceiling in the new section of the building and these latest two temporary cameras are box cams (super circuits he had laying around) mounted to the drop ceiling grid with drop ceiling clip mounts. Low and behold the two temp cameras have severe noise protrayed by horizontal lines moving vertically. I spent the next 2 hours trying to fix the issue. Since he had old florescents in there I figured maybe it was those since the camera were mounted about 1.5' from them. I took the camera down and placed it on my ladder and the video cleared up......YEP must be those darn lights so lets try and prove it further. I put the camera back up and turned the lights off and the noise didn't change it was still horrible. WHAT THE!! Tried a different camera he had there and it still did the same thing. Well I'll wrap this up because this could get long. The drop ceiling grid was grounded to the old florescents creating a difference in potential that was conducted to the camera through the metal frame of the bracket. Put a strip of black electrical tape to insulate the clip from the grid and the picture was beautiful. This was a new one to me, having the drop ceiling grid with a ground potential on there that messed up the video! I mean I was thinking powersupply issue, bad baluns, those darn florescent baluns and all it needed for a quick fix was a piece of electrical tape acting as an insulator lol!
  25. Yeah it was strange, I tested another DVR which has been OEM'd from Korea, and it has that same feature, one has to turn on de interlace on playback. I didnt check but I wonder if when you save the video for evidence sharing, if enabling deinterlace in playback makes any differences. Rory, Ya it does. All I did was enable deinterlacing during playback on my PC. The QPlayer software has a deinterlacing feature that was not enabling and the video was horrible as my picture shows and when I enabled the deinterlacing during playback the lines vanished. I still have some deinterlacing issues though directly on the DVR unit itself during playback. Although enabling deinterlacing clears up some of that I'm still not satisfied with the playback quality. For the price I guess what more can I ask from a 16 channel Hybrid. I just think this stuff could be cleared up with proper engineering of the firmware. I'm hoping the next firmware makes some improvements. UPDATE>>>>>>> Lockups are happening now, not exactly lockup as the DVR is still responsive but the video is frozen and all ethernet functions appear to be non-functional. My first two installs with this DVR are all MP Cameras (strictly IP). I got a phone call at the beginning of the week stating that the DVR froze. I went onsite, and although the video was froze the DVR was fully responsive. I reset the wireless equipment I had at this site and the switches etc but nothing worked until I rebooted the DVR. I reported the incident to Avermedia and I set up a reboot schedule in hopes not to get this again. Well I get another call yesterday but this time at my customers other location. They reported the same thing there. The LIVE video is just frozen in time (stopped with a static image). This site is also strictly an IP environment. Remote access failed and it seemed like the ethernet functions just plain failed on this DVR also. I reset the Cisco switch and power supplies and nothing worked until we rebooted the DVR. When the DVR came back up it's as if nothing happened. I setup a reboot schedule on this DVR also. So I have three of these units in the field and the ones that have been running for about 1.5 months of continuous operation both failed with the same identical characteristics. I now have reboot schedules setup so I hopefully don't get another call from my customer but there is an obvious issue there that needs to be resolved. I've contacted Avermedia on both incidents and provided them with what I can for information. Again both units are strictly running IP setups so I'm not sure if my other customer who is all analog will have this issue in another month from now. Yet something else that I hope gets looked at in the next firmware release.
