One bad point on the Geovison system is that in order to make changes to the system you have to stop recording. In more than one instance I've come back to the console and found it wasn't in the record mode, I probably forgot to re-enable recording.

Standalone recorders are always in the record mode. For instance with Dedicated Micros, there is no way to stop recording unless you turn it off.

Clean the lens with lens paper,,,,

or papertowel and glass cleaner,,,

or the bottom corner of your shirt when your up on a ladder with nothing else handy

It sounds like you need a good burglar alarm system with central station monitoring. Video is good for finding out what happened after the fact.

Could someone tell me what the following applications on the Geovision software do? The documentation that was supplied with the card provide no explanation as far as I could find.....

you don't need to terminate unused channels on a geocard (just like any DVR)

of course god forbid if we had to pay $5 / month for the service. how much would your isp charge for a static ip, alot more.

yeah, well i'd like to say i test and setup every camera in my shop before going to the customer location and climbing up the ladder, but that doesnt always happen.

I am spec'ing only APC Backup 1000s for my jobs now. Keep inmind those ratings are for new batteries, after 2 or 3 years the capacity decreases. After 5 years the batteries swell and crack.

I can focus with the best of them with my "cheap" handheld. then again my eyesight is pretty good. One of my techs has lousy eyesight and I have to go back and readjust, albeit slightly. The glare from sunlight tends to washout the monitor outdoors, but the little supercircuits unit has an eyecup that works pretty good.

Sony has a 1/2 format camera. keep in mind the additional cost factors for the 1/2 lens

thats the samsung techwin? I never tried that one, but had no issues with the Samsung GVI.

why not use a small battery powered monitor to focus while up on the ladder. supercircuits sells a small handheld unit for $100.

or if you wanna get fancy you can get a meter that will measure when the camera is focused, as the signal voltage will be highest when focused.

I think on the newer DS2's some of the OS is embedded, but still not a true embedded DVR. But by and large a very reliable DVR, many are in the field for 5 years still going (maybe thats a bad thing for my business).

I would look for the mobile DVR's that can be installed in cars and run on 12v.dc. There's a few of them out there, Dedicated Micros is one,, dedicatedmicros.com

That sounds very similar to the Geo Server I just built. I used a Pentium D 3ghz, 2 gb ram, Asus board, same ATI card I think, XPpro, and 4.5 TB of harddrive space. ( 4 Sata and 5 ATA-133). With a Geo 16ch 1480 card.

Just got the Samsung 24" DVI widescreen, looks pretty good.

Never seen this problem before, but it sounds like an internal problem that you will need to send the unit back to DM for service. Their turnaround is very fast, if you next day air it to them they will next day air back.

Sounds like a cable problem, test or replace your patch cable to the router.

I got some Ademco 3x8 f.10 lens, (I think they might be relabeled Fuji). Anyhow, I like the feature where you can adjust the focus or zoom independent of the locking screws. On Tamaron lens, after you focus it can be tricky to lock down the screws without messing up the focus setting, especially while hanging off a ladder!

my friend, harddrives come installed in DVR's (embedded variety), and the DVR companies charge alot more than tiger-direct.

HDD storage may be cheap, but the DVR companies aren't pricing it cheap.

I would get worried about the government providing internet access.

Fisrt, they will drive out the competition, making everyone dependent on their network. Second, nothing is free, who is really paying for this, and whats it going to cost tax-wise. Third, do you really want the government controlling your internet access? How long will it take before they start blocking access to websites not deemed politically correct? Or if you dont pay a parking ticket do they shut you down?

not sure, but Geo does recomend the higher level ATI radeon cards.

How good do you think the images will show on such a large screen? I would hate to pay for a large screen for CCTV, and then have the cameras look bad when blown up to large proportions. Let's assume the Geo software is set for the highest resolution.

Do you plan to use the large screen connected to the PC video card, or to the Geovision card RCA output?
