Thanks for the reply.
It looks like both of those charge a monthly fee for just accessing the web interface. Are there any that include it right on the hardware like the Visconic?

I'm looking to install an IP enabled alarm system at my office. The main feature I want is the ability to connect up over the network/internet and managed the system. I'd also like to be able to receive email alerts when the alarm is tripped. From what I can see, not too many alarm panels are IP enabled. The only one I've found so far is the Visconic wireless system. What other systems are out there? This can be wired or wireless.
Thanks,
Keefe

I'm running Win XP Pro SP2 with Geovision 7.0.5 with a GV800v3 card. Whenever the program starts I get this error:
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\GV800\GV800.exe
abnormal program termination
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling many file. When I uninstall I also delete the GV800 folder, all geo* files on the system and all GV* files on the system.
Any suggestions?

Does any one know where I can get a replacement USB Dongle for one of my cards? My vendor is out of them and it doesn't look like they will be getting anymore.
Thanks!

It has been released...

7.1/2 is so vaporware. Come mid-December it won't be here and the new date will be January.

I noticed that Geovision has software version 7.1 on their website, but it's not in the download section.
Does anyone have this update or know where to get it?
Thanks,

All I can say is finally! With this new feature set in place, I will have more confidence than ever in selling Geovision solutions.
v7.1 is expected to be ready in Q4, 2005
MPEG4 (ASP) & H.264 Video Codec: ---New
Two new video compression codecs are added. One of them is Geo MPEG4 Advanced Simple Profile, following industry's standard (MPEG-4 Part2). The other one is Geo H.264 using compression technique defined in MPEG-4 Part10, delivering crip, clear video in much smaller files. For example, if GeoMPEG 4 can record one month, then MPEG 4 ASP can record 1.2~1.5 month and H.264 can record up to 3 months.
Video Mask Protection: ---New
This new video mask filter is used to hidet sensible area for live viewing and by using RSA encryption password-protection for later retrievable. For example, during the usage of ATM Keypad to withdraw cash from ATM machine, user's ID/Password can be hide from security people's viewing but can be retrieved later as needed with password.
Advanced Motion Detection: ---New
This new feature is used to set sensibility of motion detection for predefined areas. Each region can be customized with different level of sensibility. For example,
Scene Change Detection: ---New
It can detect malfunction, obstruction or tampering of the camera, by change of the view angle, scene, or focus clearness. For example, when crime is commited, criminal can change camera's position to avoid their behavior is recorded. This new feature can help security guard to responde right away after getting alert.
Control Center: ---New
It is a centralize management application to manage all DVR system's setting, view all video's archives and control their I/O everything remotely from one single terminal station. For example, when one DVR detects fire in a building, operator can trigger rest of DVRs' alarm from one click as well as opening all DVRs' outputs (like doors) for people to exit.
Codec Storage Calculator: ---New
This new tool is used to analyze and calculate the precise storage requirement for your DVR's application and the test result is based on your actural PC configuration.
PTZ Profile Utility: ---New
This new utility helps you to create new PTZ Dome's configuration file (.ini) to be used in combination of your DVR system. For example, when requesting GeoVision to support new dome, you only need to give us protocol document instead of sending us dome.
Swap HDD Utility: ---New
Upon insertion of an external storage (like USB, Firewire or Serial ATA), your DVR recording storage capacity is added automatically without turning off. The recording path is added automatically and Viewlog can also be transferred for later view on other PC. For example, when HDD#1 is almost fulled, you can immediately insert HDD# 2 for continuous recording without turning off DVR to loose video data.
New Profile Management: ---New
Fast Backup & Restore Manager is the new application that lets you use your custom skin for your DVR System. You can customize your favorite DVR's applications and export all the settings to make additional duplication.
Spot Monitor: ---New
It can export selected video channels and display layout for DSP controller's TV-Output. For example, if camera#1 is confidential, then you can only output camera 2~16 to TV monitor.
Audio Playback in Smart Search: --Improvement
Smart Search in Viewlog application now supports audio playback
500 Subscribers Support in Center V2: --Improvement
The central monitoring application, Center V2 now supports 500 subscribers
UPnP NAT, Webcam Remote Control: --Improvement
Using revolutionary Universal Plug and Play feature, all the required TCP/IP ports are configured automatically and the new webcam remote control can be resized, video attributes like Hue, Brightness, Saturation or Contrast are adjustable. DVR recording start/stop, schedule recording start/stop can be remotely controlled through Web interface.
POS Live viewer: --Improvement
Now it supports multiples POS transaction's Live View on one screen. Each window can be group together or divided into single. The list of transaction's items and text attribute can be customized as well.
New Schedule Planner Management: --Improvement
The new schedule planner is now easier to configure (in 2 steps using Setup Wizard), timeline control using Drag & Drop and all the settings can be exported to an XML file for later implementation.
Introduction of New Hardware
GV-MP4: Real-time MPEG4 hardware compression You may choose to purchase GV-MP4 cards in addition to your GV-system. Each GV-MP4 cards (MPEG4 hardware compression card) gives 4 video and audio channels recording at resolution 720x480 (NTSC) or 720X576 (PAL) with low CPU usage.
GV-Data Capture V2E (with Ethernet Port) The new POS companion has an additional Ethernet port for LAN connection and the old parallel port is replaced with RS232 DB-25 (Male Connector).

Do you have the new gui now so we can start customizing it and using it?

I heard that Geovision software version 7.2 is ready, not 7.0.2. Does someone have this available for download?
-
Could you email me that? My email address is in my profile.

Remember that if you are only using 3 drives in your raid array if one dies, your array is busted. You need at least 4 drives to have a fully redundant and scalable solution.
-
I'm just wondering if someone could give me some ideas on how much to charge for camera/server installations.
How much do you normally charge for an installation and how do you calculate it?

Mohawk makes a great flooded UV rated plenum cat5. The only place I know that sells it is greybar.

I should have been more clear. Don't use software raid.I agree, don't use software raid. But, also don't use cheap RAID controllers. Controllers such as Promise and Highpoint are actually slower than some software raid controllers. If you are serious about data redundancy, get yourself a good 3ware raid card.

Quick raid primer for Rory:Raid 0: Usually called stripping. Has great speed, zero redunancy. Usually used for two drives. Some raid controllers call this JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks)
Raid 1: Mirroring. One drive is copied to another in real time.
Raid 0 + 1: Stripping and mirroring. Very fast way of redunancy for two drives.
Raid 5: One drive out of a set is used for checksum data/redunancy info. 4x250 gb gets you 750 GB of drive space. 6x250 GB gets you 1250 GB. 5x400 gets you 1600 GB, etc.
Those are the three most common forms of raid.
Correction: A part of EVERY drive in the array is used for parity (data redundancy). The amount of total space consumed by parity will equal the size of one drive. The formula for calculating is (N-1)*S where N = the number of drives and S = the size.

These cards seem like they will come in handy. I guess they are not much more expensive than the other cards. From what I have been told, they are about $100 more.
Does anyone know if this replaces the GV-net as well?

Why don't you get yourself a nice fiberglass ladder?

Digitalwatchguard.com has some pretty good prices on Siamese RG59 and RG6 cable.

If you don't like dealing with bending metal pipe you could always get flexible metal conduit.

I did check out the ELK and it does seem good. The web interface could really use some work in my opinion. It doesn't really compare to the Visconic, but I think the features are there. I wish the Elk wasn't java though. I'm going to look more into the ELK system. Cost-wise it doesn't seem like it'd be too much more expensive than the Visconic. I guess the main things I dont like about the Visconic is that it only allows for 2 hard-wired sensors and there's no traditional panel. The "panel" is integrated with a keypad and it just doesn't seem too commercial.
