  1. I've seen the literature on Panasonics site for the cameras, and seen a few sites that have said "summer of 2009", but has anybody heard anything more precise about the release date of Panasonic's SD5 cameras? Specifically, I'm interested in the WV-CW504 cameras that are taking the current 484 dome's place. Internet searches seem to turn up nothing but pictures.

How do bugs appear on IR LED cameras?

    Standard UFO sighting, IMO.
  3. Interesting... It's definitely not just an Australian thing, though They are very popular around Virginia where I live. However, when I lived in Texas, they were also wooden, so I know what you mean! I am not sure why any particular region would go with one over the other...? Hmm... i found this, which explains soffits, but doesnt say where they originated: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soffit I wish mine were wooden. It would make this camera thing a LOT easier!
  4. Actually, this might make it easier... A picture is worth 1,000 words. Here is what im working with. Can anybody help me with suggestions on the easiest way to mount a dome to the soffit? Various Details: -Vinyl Siding -Vinyl Soffit Panels -Single story side of the house with easy attic access.
  5. I looked through the perforations in my vinyl soffit panels with a flashlight, and there is plywood above it, but its like 2" above the panels. So there is a gap between the panels and plywood. I wouldnt be able to access the portion directly above the panels from the attic because of the plywood blocking them, right? And I cant mount the cameras without some sort of back-bracing between the panels and plywood, otherwise it'd be flimsy. Also, my house is only 1 story.
  6. Maybe I am wrong (never done this before), but wouldn't I do this from the outside of the house? First by removing the vinyl soffit panel, then installing the 2x4, then putting the vinyl soffit panel back in place? Is this the hard way, or is this way totally not possible? I have been in my attic plenty to install recessed lighting and to run new wires down the wall for new light switches, and yes, it wasnt fun crawling to the edge of the house where there is almost no room
  7. I too want to mount some domes under my soffit's, but I am unsure how to get them mounted nice and solid, since I have a big gap above my vinyl soffit panels. If anybody has tips, or even documented their install with some pictures, I'd love to hear/see them!

    INTELLICAM G4-8LTA? Discontinued?

No. Not really. But dont do what I do, and put it in your bedroom. I have the G4 8 channel DVR in the corner of my bedroom, sitting right next to a dell desktop computer. The DVR is louder. I dont think that should be a deal breaker, though. I think you should put it somewhere where its not critical to have no noise. For example, i think living room and bedroom are bad places, because you are either trying to watch tv, or sleep, depending on which room. I am moving mine soon to my media closet with the rest of my stuff. I am just waiting to add my last few cameras though, and rerun the wires.

I'm not sure if thats a great idea. I would suggest getting a small router to put between the DVR and the modem. That is not true, you can still have a lan without a single computer on it. You dont need computers onsite to have a router between the DVR and modem. however, youd probably have to bring a laptop onsite to setup the router up initially. The benefits of a router would be port-forwarding and a firewall (although, a firewall isnt that important with no computers on the network). I could be misunderstanding you though. Does your broadband modem have a built-in router? Are you able to configure your ports through the modem?
  10. So I am going to install the new Panasonic SD5 cameras on the exterior of my house, but for the purpose of some of the cameras inside of the house, I am not going to need to spend that kind of money on each camera. I was looking at some other domes, and the Vitek Mighty Domes seem to be a fairly decent camera, all considering. Particulary, these: http://www.vitekcctv.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductID=371 And in my dark basement, I was looking at possibly this IR mini dome: http://www.vitekcctv.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductID=421 Now, I am aware that it is always better to seperate the IR from the camera, because there can be reflection in the dome when the IR is mounted inside of it, but it looks like there is a gasket around the lens to eliminate that. Although, I'm not sure if it works or not, because I have no experience with the camera. Ideally, I'd just get the Panasonic domes and a seperate IR illuminator for each application, but I just cant spend that kind of money for all 8 cameras. Haha. So for some of the less critical cameras I'd figure these might be a good option? Can anybody give me any opinions on the Mighty Domes who has used them? Thank You!
  11. I thought the exact same thing when I first got into CCTV, and I set my DVR at 30fps for every camera. Once I realized how fast my harddrive was filling up, I decided to lower it to 22fps. I was surprised that I could not tell a difference in the recorded video quality between 22 and 30fps. A few weeks later, I decided to lower it to 18fps and see what happened with the quality. Again, I could not tell the difference. I now have it set at 15fps, and it's still nice and smooth. I am thinking of lowering the FPS again to either 10 or 12. 15fps is not choppy video at all to me. I watch people walking around in recorded video at 15fps and it looks smooth. I bet if you put it on 15fps, and told your brother it was on 30, he wouldn't know the difference. He would be happy with the results. Not that I'm suggesting that you lie to him, I'm just saying that that's how hard it is to tell with an untrained eye. Good luck!
  12. http://www.panasonic.co.nz/professional/security-industrial/security-cameras/analog.html well, panasonic has it listed on their analog camera page (second row, third from left), but when you click on "more details" it yields nothing more than a pretty picture. the wait is killing me!
  13. So the question of the day is: will the current 484 domes see a drop in price when the SD5 stuff hits the street, or will they continue to sell at the same price point online until the inventory is gone?

  15. bump to top i figure eventually somebody will know the release date, as panasonic said it was going to be sometime this summer i've been holding off on buying new cameras for almost 2 months now because of this! haha. this is what ive found so far, which compares the current 484 dome with the new 504 dome. i'm liking what i see so far! i also wonder what the pricing will be on these. Hopefully itll be the same as the current 484 domes.

    Cable Insulation

interesting. i have never heard of that stuff going on at home depot. here in virginia, that doesnt happen at home depot (im there all the time. i am forever doing upgrades and renovations on my home). i see what you meant now by "illegals" in your prior post. you had me confused. haha.
  17. alpine0000

    Cable Insulation

kind of an unwarranted statement. i mean, sure, you dont want to buy your cameras or anything at home depot , but they are great for wiring, connectors, conduit, crimpers, screws, drill bits, caulk, ladders, solder, various tools, etc etc that you would use to install your cctv system.

    Need Reviews for Intellicam JS-16XLA

I have the G4-8RTA-D1. I love it! I highly recommend these. I just have one gripe, though. The client software that came with it has given me issues. The software works great and has nice features, but on my computer, about once every week or two, when i go to open the client software, it forgets all of the settings that i had configured, and acts as if i am opening it for the first time, and it asks me to set up a username, pw, and add devices, etc etc. So, it gets frustrating constantly having to re-do all of my settings every time the database for the client software corrupts. I am a Database Administrator, so Im pretty computer savvy, but I cant figure out the problem. Mike (shoreview security) emailed me his copy of the software, and i still get the same problem. It may just be my computer, i dont know. i have a brand new dell studio laptop, which is about 2 months old, running Windows Vista 32 bit with Service Pack 1. It has 4 gigs of ram, and whatever the fastest processor was that dell offered on their website a couple months ago for this laptop. My laptop runs everything else that i throw at it just perfectly, except for this this darn client software that crashes about every week or two. Aside from that hiccup, the thing works perfectly for me
  19. I cant help you with the datasheets, but I'm pretty sure that the moderators frown upon posting the same thread in 3-4 different sub-forums As you can see, the regular folks here pretty much read most of the sub-forums anyways... Welcome to the board, and good luck on finding what you need

    Nuvico Dome

Well, have you taken a look at Nuvico's website? http://www.nuvico.com/subcat.htm?id=12 If you click on "camera's", then click on "vandelproof domes", you only have 4 options. Of those 4 options, only two of them are "day/night". Between those two, it's a difference between a camera with IR, or without. If you want a Nuvico, it's that simple Good luck!
  21. Hey all, I'm in the process of upgrading my cameras to better ones, and I figured before I take these down, I'd post a screenshot for you guys. The screenshots are from an IntelliPix IPX-520-DN DPS WDR Day/Night Camera w/ 2.8-12mm Manual Iris Varifocal Lens (looks like a knock-off Bosch camera). Haha. I have the lens zoomed out as far as it can go to get a wide view of my front yard. The camera is mounted inside of my front bay window (yuck). I used it while I was in Iraq last year to check and make sure that the lawn service came and mowed my lawn each week, and to make sure my truck was still there (had given the keys to a neighbor) and not out for a joyride . I am replacing the camera with a panasonic 484 dome that will be mounted outside under the eave, and it will be more zoomed in on my truck. I am also mounting a few others around the house to cover various views that I will want. Here is a day shot Here is a day shot with my car in the driveway Here is a day shot on a rainy/muggy day with a moving truck driving by The screenshots are from recorded video, not live, and my DVR is set to record in 4CIF at 18fps. Overall, for an inexpensive camera, I guess its not too bad. Can't wait for my upgrades!

    Nuvico Dome

OK, so it sounds like you want to buy a Nuvico outdoor day/night dome camera with a wide-angle lens. Now what? Sounds like you already know what you want I'm not sure what you are asking. Did you want our opinion on Nuvico cams? A suggestion for which camera to use?

Are there any good Outdoor Dome Cameras

Wow. Every time I read your posts, I think, "Deja Veux". So I took a look at your first 20 some posts... There's nothing like joining a forum to reply to every thread that you can, basically saying [in not so many words] "buy my equipment and visit my website". You have provided no substance or help to anybody on this forum. Instead, you have littered each thread that you post in with shameless plugs for your business. I hope you are a paid advertiser/supporter of this site
  24. I was going to do this a few months ago, but got side-tracked with building a deck and some other home projects. I'm looking for a handful of cameras that will be used outside of my home, and a couple inside. I was set on the Panasonic WV-CW484S domes last time I looked around, but just came across the Pelco IS111-DWV9, which looks like a strong contender for less money. I know that the Panasonic offers image stablization and de-humidifier, both which I probably wont need, even though they are nice to have. I was researching it a bit, and I don't think that the Pelco has auto-back focus, like the Panasonic does, but couldn't verify this for sure. What else am I overlooking here as a difference between the two? I'm trying to justify if it's worth the extra ~$150-200 per dome for the Panasonic (after I add the optional heater and clear dome to the Panasonic, both of which the Pelco comes with standard), even know I know that they are the best camera for the money. I'm looking to buy about 4 or 5 domes, so the savings could be quite significant in the end if I end up going with the Pelco. But I also don't want to skimp if the Panasonic's offer me a lot more for my money I like the simple asthetics of the Pelco better. And it comes with the clear dome, built in heater, and the lens has a broader varifocal range. Both have WDR. However, I know the track-record that the Panasonic 484 domes have around here... What would you do? Any advice, opinions, or experience would be appreciated! Please help make my decision easier Pelco IS111-DWV9: http://www.pelco.com/products/default.aspx?id=603 WV-CW484S http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=100037&surfModel=WV-CW484S
