  1. You will connect the cameras to a POE router/switch, which your computer will also be connected to.

    Avigilon Software

Thanks, Mike. I checked out Avigilon's website the other day to learn a bit about their software. It was nice, but I felt that it wasnt quite as informative/detailed as Exacq's website is for the VMS, which is why I asked all those questions. If you had to choose one for your home to run 8 IP cameras, which would it be, and why? I will check out their website again and keep an open mind. Will you PM me with the cost of Avigilon's license (do they do it per camera, like Exacq?). Thanks, William

    Avigilon Software

thewireguys: Are you liking this Avigilon software better than Exacq? And why or why not? What have you found that one can do over the other better? I am still hoping to upgrade to IP soon (things have been crazy-busy with my job and travel lately) and had my mind set on Exacq. Some of the things I like about Exacq are that it does not use active x (so pretty much any browser will work) and it has an iphone app. Can you comment on those two things in regards to Avigilon? Those two things kind of have me sold because at my office, they have our browsers locked down so that we can't use active x. Also, I go on travel a lot for my job and spend lots of time at client sites and in the airport, so the iphone app would be great for me since I find myself away from a computer for extended periods of time occasionally. Also, if you have time, maybe you could PM me the pricing for Avigilon and any other comments that you have about it. Regards, William

  9. what a shame i was watching some youtube videos of these cameras last night and they looked good...
  10. NOOOOOOOO I was going to order two of the TCM-3511 cameras soon for a dark indoor application. I might think twice about these now. I def need IR though. After you read the PDF and figured out the install tricks, do you feel any differently about the cameras, or do you still hate them? How is the image quality? Are they easier to install now that you have learned the trick? I'm wondering if I should find a different IP/dome/megapixel/IR/H.264 camera now for my application Soon I am changing from an analog/dvr setup to ip/exacq server setup.

  13. Hello, I have a G4-8RTA-D1 DVR that came with 500gb of HDD space. A few months ago I added an additional 1TB (two 500gb drives) and when the DVR boots up, it recognizes them and says they're working fine, so I never thought anything of it... Fast-forward to tonight: For the first time, I clicked on "DVR properties" in the client software, and in the window that pops up it says my new drives are on "standby", and "abnormal". Can anybody tell me what I need to do to make these drives active? I didn't see anything in the owners manual (not to mention, it was written in VERY poor english and is not easy to understand). I am upgrading to an IP solution soon, but for now I'd like to get this working properly. I emailed tech support, but they are very spotty, and over the last two years have only replied to about 25% of my emails, so I figured I'd post here in the meantime and see if any of you guys could help. Thanks! William

G4-8RTA-D1 DVR not recognizing new HDD's

looks like formatting them did the trick.

G4-8RTA-D1 DVR not recognizing new HDD's

Soundy, You are correct. I went into the HDD manager, and dug deeper than I originally did a few months ago when I installed them, and see that the status of the two newer drives says "unformatted", and it gives me an option to format them. I am doing that now. It might take a few hours. Afterwards, it says I need to reboot. Then we will see if I am back in business! I made the mistake of installing them, and then seeing the "false hope" icons when the machine boots saying all 4 drives are working properly. No wonder I am only getting 10-14 days of recording still... Haha Thanks again

  21. I just got excited and did a search on this product, until I found out that it is a Mobotix product that interfaces with other mobotix cameras, and it also has audio, motion detection, etc. (which I dont need). Is there a product that *JUST* does temperature, and will interface with any IP camera, and overlays the temp on the display? (sorry for hi-jacking the images thread. I wont post anymore in this thread regarding this subject, and feel free to PM me my answer if you'd like, instead of clogging up this thread). Thanks!
  22. yep. download the software and install it on any pc on your network there at home -- preferably one that is always turned on and connected to the internet. if i remember correctly, the software runs as a service and automatically starts when you boot your PC, and youll see an icon for it in the system try. its been a couple of years since I have used it, as I now have a static IP at home.
