I was thinking of using the ex 80 camera and was going to place it in a backyard corner under eave of the house. The view would be: 25 ft in front is a 20' x 16' deck with patio set and canopy and then 3' railing and gate with stairs to driveway. off the end of the deck on th near side is a pool and off the far side is another 30' of yard to a shed.
Is this a good camera for this or too much ir?
thanks

Speco has Ir and superIR. IS the super IR similar to Extreme IR and can anyone tell me about extremes new black diamond IR. Used it or plan to.

Why not???? Courtesy should not have a price tag nor should respect.

Please forward this to your friend.
Personally I find the attitude of your friend, the sales clerk from Blockbuster, disgusting and in no way funny. The man came to you for help and you give him attitude. The tirade after he left was a disgrace. namecalling and thinking he should join the 21st century whe you yourself were looking to get an older technology for your own use is hypocritical. Lack of remorse, and later proven yourself wrong, should consider yourself lucky that the customer did not speak to your manager on site, you then would have had to swallow your pride and help the customer in his 'absurd" request. Did you tell your manager about the customer when you realized your mistake? Maybe you could have offered some good customer service and verified your statement of no rewinders or perhaps suggested he seek the vhs/dvd player that you were considering. It is this type of service that I have left Blockbuster and have not gone back. And by the way neither has anyone that I have told of MY experiences with them. HMM maybe poor service does make a difference in business.

Would a door intercom from radioshack work with a DVR to reord the conversation both for recording and trigger?
-
OK, More interesting is the case where the thief sued the home owner when he fell through there skylight while accessing their house. He admitted to breaking in, but won for personal injury, pain and suffering, and medical expenses against the homeowner because it happened on their property. They had to file bakruptcy and sell the house to pay him off in the lawsuit that the thief brought against them for being hurt while robbing them. That's just wrong on all accounts. Gotta love our legal system.
anyway, anyone know about the microphones?

Does anyone know if the extreme exam100 microphone would be weather rated (outdoor) or know more about it? I could put it in the eave covers on the house above the door.

Thanks for video Scuit. Very sad situation when people just don't care about anyone elses property like that. You are right though, audio is important.
Oh yeah, and don't you dare listen to my conversation that I'm SCREAMING into my cell phone while behind you in line. That's private too.
Be careful because having sign posted, in multiple languages, does not absolve from the lawsuits all the time. It's amazing what people can get away with in regards to lawsuits.

I saw those in my searching (only thing actually), I was wondering if there was anything else out there that you might recommend that is better or smaller.

OK, The cities lawyer has said," The laws are loosening reguarding audio security. As long as any recordings are not submitted as evidence, or as evidence when recording a direct conversation with the microphone/ property owner, and when they are an active participant in the conversation being recorded, but no prior, nor post direct conversation is admissable."
Any recommendations for microphones?
Conditions: Outdoor- under eaves. I have extreme domes attached to single gang boxes. Would micro mics in the gang box work or be screwed up by outdoor environment and cause potential moisture problem in the box?
I was looking for low profile but the front of the house is beginning to look like a prison with 2 domes and a ir illuminator now. Maybe something I can attach to the ir illuminator?
Thanks

I would check with some of the vendors here to see if they have a lens that will fit your existing camera. I'm a newbee myself but there is a LOT of GREAT help here to be found. Good Luck

Sounds like you wanted a wide-angle lens.2.8- 3 mm or you need to change the focus for closer up.

So, in your experience, this recording would be legal,. I'm checking with an attorney just wanted some real world advice.
yeah, Smith and Wesson are next line of defense and everyone in the house is liscenced and capable.

yes, it's private property

Is it legal to record a conversation of someone on my front steps? I understand that it is ok if one party is aware of the recording or if the conversation could be overheard naturally. Does it apply in this situation?
I have a no soliciting sign on my front door(residential) and have had a number of groups repeatedly ignore it. I have contacted the home organizations after the first incident. I have video of the same individuals coming back. The last time they were verbally abusive to my wife and a bit threatening. I can see the people in the video but they are not visably physically threatening.
I would like to record the conversation before and after I open the door. My chair is near the window and I can usually hear someone on the steps but....
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I currently have the Extreme Ex40mnx dome with the 2.8mm lens. It works well picture quality wise, and has a wide enough view to cover the front lawn to see any activity there but recognition is very limited at that distance unless you know the person. Though, my camera also covers anyone coming up the front stairs with a great look at the face also, so smile pretty for the camera. The ir does not cover the area of the lens and definitely not for a great distance. You will need additional ir to flood the area.

Installing the SM1 microphone and not sure of the connections. The mic end has a round 4 pin connector labeled ABCD and only 2 wireshielded cable needed.
Directions simply say:
A: +5 to 16 power
B: ground
C: ground
D: Audio
I think A and D. Correct?
Interface is three pin block + audio -
Any help appreciated
THanks
