  1. java is very finicky. double check that the versions match on the working vs. non working computers. make sure you are using the same version of IE also. check Pelco's manual for which version of java to use and don't expect newer versions of java to be backwards compatible. they are not in many cases.

    Client software or Browser based?

quick and dirty answer is: 1. mjpg is an open standard and can typically be used with any browser that supports the codec including firefox. you lose audio with this method but keep ptz. 2. activex is the defacto standard for newer codecs such as mpeg4/h.264. it includes audio but usually uses a media player where you may lose ptz functionality (not always the case of course; depends of the software involved). it has been a quick and easy way to implement these licensed codecs. since the majority of the world has been using windows/IE most manufacturers chose to support activex for these codecs. it is really not required (you could use quicktime plugin just as easily) but MS has ruled the pc world for some time now so it was easiest to go with IE and activex. obviously things are changing these days and there are some newer codecs coming out with support from other media players so we'll see what gets implemented in the next few years. you will find niche manufacturers/3rd party developers getting into this area for non activex support. it's already starting.

beta testers for ip camera application on blackberry

it was noted that there may be some confusion where it says to input 'ip or url'. url = domain name. no need for http://. just www.blah.com or blah.com or video.blah.com , etc.
  4. i am looking for people to beta test an app i am doing on the blackberry for ip based cameras. i will also be adding dvr/video server support where available for anyone interested on that end. right now the only video server support is axis however. if anyone has one or more cams + bb and wants to try it out please pm me. Thanks.

beta testers for ip camera application on blackberry

well let's keep posting replies here until we get to 10. then we can pm. the first 2 automation apps will be based on wireless automation products so there is no need for cat5. we will not be supporting pelco. they are locked down to activex and aren't too friendly about budging on this. i tried to work with them already and so far have been blown off basically. the axis will be fine though.
