4MP camera played back on 1080P monitor

Thanks Boogieman for your input. It just seems to me that to have the 4K recorded file available at the monitor, to be utilized while I zoom in, I would need a 4K HDMI cable from the NVR to the monitor?

4MP camera played back on 1080P monitor

Going back to my original question I am guessing that I should be using a 4K HDMI cable to get this to work.

4MP camera played back on 1080P monitor

That is kind of how I was thinking. So if I digitally zoom into 1/4 of the screen of a file that was actually recorded at 2560X1440 (3.6 million pixels), would the video I am viewing have roughly 1 million pixels rather then zooming into 1/4 of the screen of a video file that was recorded at 1920X1080 (2 million pixels) giving me a video image with 500,000 pixels. It looks like I should have twice the resolution.
  4. Hi All Does anyone know where I can find a covert IP camera that is compatible with a dahua NVR?
  5. HI all. Dahua EX-NVR-8. Does anyone know an easy way to get the camera that is being displayed on channel 7 to switch places with the camera that is being displayed on channel 1? I tried flipping the cables but did not have much luck.
  6. Thanks. I ordered a Hikvision covert camera yesterday and will give it a try.
  7. I asked this question in a different post but did not get any replies. Maybe this is a stupid question. If so please let me know. I am just trying to figure out what it takes to get the best playback quality I can get. Hi all Using Dahua NVR Recording at 1080P and viewing playback on a 1080P monitor. When reviewing a recorded file the actual playback image is being displayed using about 75% of the monitor screen. The rest of the monitor screen is being used to display the file list on the right and the time line on the bottom. My question is, since I am only using 75% of the 1080P resolution of the monitor to view the recorded file that was recorded at 1080P, how can I be getting a 1080P resolution? It seems to me that it would be compressed to fit into this smaller viewing screen? My thoughts are that maybe I should be recording at something like 720P so it will match this smaller viewing window that is displayed while using playback.

    Monitor display

Thanks for the reply. I am actually getting a very clear image but just wanting to make sure that I am not leaving anything on the table that could make it a little better. Thanks again Smokingjoe

  10. Still learning how to work with resolution settings to get the best video quality and I feel like I am missing something. Question: If setting your recording resolution and setting your IP camera resolution to match your monitor resolution is one of the steps needed to end up with your best video playback image. Could this match up be done if the system that you have setup has both 1.3MP cameras and 2MP cameras? If these two cameras have different aspect ratios (1.3MP = 1280X1024 (4:3 ratio) and 2MP = 1920X1080 (16:9), it seems to me like the monitor resolution is not going to match one of these two cameras.
  11. Don I thank you so much for taking the time to explain this to me. I have learned more about how this works in the past two days than I have learned in the past two years. And it is not because I haven't tryed. I can't tell you how many tutorials I have watched and how many articals I have read to try to get a good understanding of how this should work. I do have on more rookey question. As long as I have my display resolution on the NVR match my monitor resolution and my camera resolution match my recording resolution, should I expect to see a big difference in the video quality while veiwing playback that is displayed on a 16:9 1920X1080 resolution monitor vs a 4:3 1280X1024 resolution monitor? The reason I ask this is that I have picked up several used 4:3 monitors over the last year from friends and relatives that have switched to the wide screen monitors, hoping to use them for cctv installs in the future. Thanks again for your help.
  12. One of the reasons I am asking about this is a few weeks ago I installed a camera system for a local plumbing store near my home. Using dahua equipment. After connecting the cameras to the NVR I noticed that while in the eight or nine channel live view, with the images being small. These small images showed jagged lines for what should be straight lines. What I mean by this is the pipe in the pipe rack looked jagged, The lines on the garage door looked jagged. I was thinking that maybe with the camera being 2MP that it would be trying to put 2 million pixels in this small area or maybe my resolution settings needed help. When looking at the image at full screen or playback the image looks fine.
  13. I am a little confused about what you mean when you say "if channel 1 has a 720P camera to configure channel 1 to 720P". I just logged into a 1.3MP camera and my resolution options are 1.3MP (1280X960) -- 720P (1280X720) -- D1 (704X480). Should I always go with the highest resolution the camera offers and configure the channel that it is connected to with the same resolution? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I am really struggling with figuring this out. Thanks
  14. Thanks for the quick reply. It sounds like I have been looking at this all wrong. I will take notes and play around with it a little bit. Hopefully it will sink in.
  15. I asked this question on a different post but got no replies. Recording 1080p -- 2MP camera VS 3MP camera. Do I gain anything with 3MP camera?
  16. I thank you for this helpful information. You did a good job of explaining to me how this is suppose to work. What are your thoughts on the Aptina CMOS sensor vs the Sony Exmor sensor?
  17. Thanks for the quick replies. I install security cameras on the side in a rural area in Indiana. I'm definitely not an expert but the local people seem to be happy with what I install. I recently switch from installing anolog systems to IP cameras and using NVRs. From day one I have used Dahua systems and have had good luck with their equitment. There is a Dahua dealier located about thirty miles from where I live so this is pretty handy for me. My last installation I ordered (4) G4-IPSDE20A 2MP Dome cameras and (1) G4-IPSCX20A 2MP Varifocal camera. When I picked up the order I was told that the G4-IPSCX20A 2MP cameras were being phased out and they replaced it with a G4-IPCX30A 3MP varifocal camera for about the same price. The big difference I see according to the spec sheet is that this new 3MP camera has a Aptina CMOS image sensor and the old camera had a Sony Exmor image sensor. I guess my question is that if I'm using a 16:9 display ratio and recording resolution of 1920X1080, should I notice any difference. If I understand it right, which I probably don't, 1920X1080 is a little over 2 millon pixels. This is the highest recording resolution offered by the NVR. So if the new camera sends an image with 3 millon pixels to the NVR, how will the extra 1 millon pixels be able to improve the image that I'm seeing? Live or playback. Maybe this would help when zooming in on recorded video but I don't understand how.
  18. OK guys I would really like to learn more about resolution. I have watched many tutorials on resolution and understand the comparison between tv lines and HD, interlace and progressive. What I am having trouble with right now is what it takes to get my recording resolution to match the monitor resolution. From what I have read this should be done to get the best results. Using 2MP IP cameras. On the NVR Under ENCODE, -- Resolution, I set a system up to record at 1080P and the options, under Display option on the NVR, I have options like 1920X1080, 1280X 1024, 1280X720, 1024X768. I set this to 1920X1080. Do I also need to change the settings on the actual HD monitor? Also what I am having trouble with is would I really gain anything if I were using 3MP IP cameras? My highest option is 1920X1080 which equils alittle over 2 million pixels. If the 3MP camera is producing 3 million pixels are the extra 1 million pixels going to show up with a 1920X1080 resolution setting? These may seem like rooky questions to those that already have a good understanding of how this works but I have been playing around with cctv for a few years and I have always strugled with getting a good understanding of this resolution thing. Maybe someone knows of a good tutorial that would give me a better understanding of how this all works. Thanks
  19. Hi all I need to save a video file for the police to use. I used a file player that I downloaded from GENIV to convert from DAV to AVI so it could be played on their PC and the video plays faster than normal. It is useable but I would like to get it to play at normal speed. Also where can I go to download the Dahus Smart Player. I have tried several sites but not having much luck. I have used it once before and it has a speed control option that is really cool. Thanks
  20. Hi all I would really like to find out where I can download the Dahua Smart Player. I have searched many sites and am not having much luck at all. I have a friend that has this player on his laptop and I have had a chance to play around with it. "I Like It" My friend can't remember where he downloaded it from. Any help would be great. Thanks Tim
  21. Hi all Can anyone tell me what the latest version of PSS is and where it can be downloaded for free?
  22. Hi all I remotely logged into my dahua DVR from behind my router with a laptop and saved a DAV video file to a new folder that I had created on my desktop. When I open this folder it is empty. I have tried several times with several files and got the same results. This is the first time that I have tried to save a video file remotely. I am not sure but I think it may have something to do with it being a DAV file. Does anyone out there know why this is happening?

    Dahua CVI-M DVR

Hi all Has anyone tried the HD-CVI-M DVR from GENIV (Dahua)? Everything that I have instilled so far has been analog cameras 700 tv lines or less. I would like to see what the video quality difference is using 720p cameras compared to what I have been using. I am thinking that there should be a big difference in the resolution while zooming in. My supplier only stocks two models of the CVI cameras and they have fixed 3.6mm lens. I am planning on picking up a couple to try them out. Thanks Smokingjoe
