  1. Hi all I am doing a ruff setup on a new GenIV DCXT DVR at my home that will be installed in a laundry mat next week. I have two cameras connected to the DVR for this setup. I am about to finish up and would like to delete the video files that were recorded in my house while doing this setup. I did the same thing a while back and remember formatting the HDD to delete the files but I can't remember how I did this. Does anyone have the procedure for doing this. Thanks
  2. Hi all Does anyone know where I can download a manual for a vc-8chwebr DVR? There is a local VFW hall in my area that is having trouble with there surveillance system and I am trying to help them out but they don't have a manual for there DVR. Thanks Smokingjoe

PC monitor vs LCD TV for spot monitor

Thanks for the advise. I will be installing this next weekend so I will look around for a good deal on a small LCD TV.
  4. Hi All I am installing a 6 camera video surveillance system in a small club and I need to add a spot monitor near the bar. This monitor will be powered on for around 9 hours every day. What would be the best choice, PC monitor or LCD TV, for this spot monitor? I plan on using a BNC to VGA converter if I go with the PC monitor and a BNC to RCA adapter if I go with the LCD TV. Also if I go with the PC monitor would it be best to put the BNC to VGA converter at the DVR or out by the monitor? Distance between DVR and spot monitor is around 60 ft. Thanks
  5. Hi everyone I have been tring to setup my dvr to be able to access it from a remote location, for many moons, but have not had much luck. My present problem is when I try to log into my DVR locally, using my lab top, the web service page that comes up does not look normal. There is a message that reads THIS WEB PAGE IS IN CHINESE. There is a translate button on the far right of the screen but when I click it nothing happens. I have tried both wired and wireless. I do have a desktop that is hard wired to the same netgear router that the DVR is wired into and I can access the DVR locally from it with no problem. I am tring to get the labtop to access the DVR locally before I take it out to try to access the DVR from a remote location. Notes: I just got this Wireless Netgear router a few days ago. My old router was a linksys (not wireless).. I got this Labtop from my daughter. It is about four yrs old. Running windows7 on labtop. Running XP on desktop. I am thinking this might be an activeX problem but not sure. I am still a little green on windows7. I went in and enabled all of the activeX options. I did this while talking to a tech from netgear who helpped me setup portforwarding. The DVR is an Intellicam JS-8XLA series. Does anyone have any ideas for getting the web service page to come up normal on my labtop. Thanks Smokingjoe

    Replace bad nv3000 card

Hi everyone I probably have an easy question for most. I have someone with a 3yr old PC base DVR with two NV3000 cards. Only 7 channels are working. One of the video ports on one of the cards stopped working. I have a NV3000 card, I bought about 3yrs ago, that I used it in a different DVR for a while and took it out. I am sure it works fine. I would like to use this card to replace the bad card. Can I just swap the cards and expect it to work or will I need to use the disk that came with this used card to load the drivers again. Thanks Smoking Joe
  8. Hi every one Having trouble port forwarding. Trying to port forward through two routers to access my DVR remotely. (JS-8XLA DVR) The first is from my service provider, Comtrend Modem/Router CT-5621T. I only have one dynamic IP address. I can get a second IP address but would have to pay a monthly fee. This Comtrend modem/router has at least three ports on the back that I can plug into that will let me connect to the internet but I can only use one computer at a time. I also get my cable TV through this modem/router. I added another router for networking because I have two computers. This seems to work fine. The second router is a linksys BEFSR41 four port router. I am sure that I have the port forwarding set up right on this router and the DVR because I can access the DVR from my computer when I have it connected to this networking router. Yesterday I contacted the company that I bought the DVR from. GENIV technology. They told me that I may need to change my first modem/router to bridge mode and let the second router do all of the security. They said the two routers may cause something called double Nating. Not sure how safe changing the comtrend to bridge mode would be. What I was wondering is do you think it would work if I connected straight from the DVR to one of the ports on the first Comtrend Modem/router? The only time I have my computer at home on is when I am there. So I may be able to connect to the DVR from a remote location that way. Thanks Tim
  9. Hi everyone. Having trouble with a nv3000. It is about 2 years old and been working fine. The other day I went in to search for some recorded video and found that my DVR had stopped recording. There is a flashing red message at the bottom right of my screen that says FREE SPACE = 669.16GB. When I try to record manually it records for about 2 seconds and a window pops up that says (WARNING!!! Free space is to low, please try to remove some unnecessary files!!!). I had it set up to record over files after 14 days. I changed this setting to record over files after 2 days but it did not help. Was wondering if anyone has any idea how to fix this problem. PS I check the saved video files I have stored on the HDD, 2.1GB. Thanks Smoking Joe

    NV3000 stopped recording

You are a genius!! I deleted the E storage and then re-added it. Now both E and F have normal Status. Thanks so much. I am going to play around with this face finder option. That sounds pretty neat. Thanks again

    NV3000 stopped recording

Sounds like this thing has a lot more bells and whistles than I thought. Not sure if I am recording to all drives or not. How would I find out?

    NV3000 stopped recording

To be honest it was just a lucky click. What do you think about still having the ERROR under Status for the E:\Storage?

    NV3000 stopped recording

Thanks for the reply. I did get it to start recording but I am not sure if it is back 100%. I went to system and found the list of hard drives. Folder Name-----Free Space-----Disk Space(Used)------Status E:\STORAGE------203.50G------- 203.50G(0.01G)-------Error F:\STOEAGE---------465.54G------465.76G(0.12G)------Error I right clicked on the F:Storage and when I clicked off of it the ERROR went away. Now is says NORMAL under Status. But I can't get the E:\STORAGE to do the same. It still says ERROR. I checked and now it is recording. Maybe this is normal?

    Port forwarding problem

It works I just called my daughter and had her type in the g4 address and she was able to see my cameras from her house. I do have one other question. Should I change my port forwarding numbers from the default numbers? Wondering about how secure the default port numbers would be. Thanks so much for everyones help. Tim

    Port forwarding problem

OK Going through and checking all of my port settings. I can access the DVR from my computer by typing in the IP address. Do have one question. The manual I am using for my DVR settings, tells me to set the ports to default. The default settings on the network page of the DVR is: TCP Port is 37777 UDP Port is 37778 HTTP Port 80 What I am wondering about is the manual gives a list of default ports for setting up port forwarding for my G4-XLA Series DVR and the reference list is :TCP 80 and 8000. But (37777 is NOT IN THIS RANGE) ?? I just logged onto canyouseemee and they tell me port 37777 and port 80 are open. Port 37778 they could not see. I looked at the IP address and it is the same wan address I have. I guess the next thing to do is go to a remote location and try it. According to this manual all I should have to do is type in the user name and g4ip.com. Example abcdefg.g4ip.com If this don't work I will try typing in my wan address. Will do it this afternoon. Any suggestions before I go let me know.

I have one patch cable going from my router to my DVR. I have DHCP enabled in my DVR. I can connect to the Internet with my computer. What do you suggest I do next?
