  1. Ha ha ha ha ha hmmmmmmmmmmmm. There's a demented part of my brain that almost enjoys trying to solve these mysteries......but the novelty factor has almost worn off for me. Perhaps my unit was the one that was ritualistically abused on the assembly line and now it's taking revenge! I'll bring in some church elders to lay hands on it.....surely then it will realise the error of it's ways LOL
  2. Hi there, thanks for your help on my ongoing issues. As you requested I set up a temp account via my Video Server E program here at home. I also decided to change my admin / admin standard login info for obvious reasons and now guess what. I can't even log in to my own system!!! I tried the user name and password I'd set for you as well and still can't get in. I can't figure out what has caused this at all and I'm beginning to think that the machine must hate me, but thankfully I should be able to reset the whole system from the DVR itself and start again. I'll send you an email (prob tomorrow as I'm not in the office today) when I'm back to square 1. Cheers
  3. Thanks Scorpion... I'm 99% sure the issue is solely related to this one particular laptop, especially given that I can use all functions from other PC's. The DVR is only about 3 weeks old so I'd be loath to take the cover off for a hard reset at this stage, that combined with the fact it is now installed in a location that takes some effort to get. Just to keep us both going Hmmmmmm I encountered yet another issue yesterday. I bought a dell 15" LCD to use as a monitor and after failing to find a straight ahead connection (it has both digital DVI 24+1 and analogue Dsub connections) I opted to buy the vga adapter. I made all the connections and rebooted the DVR (after switching to VGA monitor out via the menu)....and......nothing! I've tried another vga cable just in case but no success...just a black screen. Any suggestions? The VGA adapter connects to the DVI output (via the corded side according to instructions). I've also made sure the monitor is set to analogue input. BTW do you think that the Videoviewer program might work on my machine (AVC785)? Just a thought. Many thanks
  4. Yes it's definitely a strange issue. I've been playing around again and discovered that I can use the time search function to play back footage. But once it starts playing back I can't control it with the stop, FF, RW, Pause etc. Once playing back I can't get back to the live quad view unless I use windows remote desktop to connect to my work PC which I then in turn use to connect to my shop cameras...then I can stop the playback! I've cleaned out all my temp net files etc but have a feeling that maybe it is an active x issue. I can't see it being bandwidth related as I can connect my old laptop using the same wireless broadband router & everything is hunky dory. It seems solely related to this laptop. Another side issue I've encountered is recently when I used the remote setup to convert the DVR to OVERWRITE. As soon as I hit the OK button all 4 cameras went black! The only way I could fix this was by driving down to my shop (where even my connected monitor showed blackouts on all cams). I had to use my DVR remote control to navigate to the factory reset. Once the DVR had rebooted all cams were back to showing...but I had to recalibrate all the motion sensing etc! I still want to use OVERWRITE but need to get to the bottom of the black screens of death first.
  5. Hi there, Iv'e been looking through the various posts and haven't yet found anyone who has my following issue (lucky me). I have the 8ch Avtech 785 DVR running a 4 cam setup in one of my shops. I can log in to my system from remote locations such as my office & home and can view the quad setup easily enough either through Video server E or simply by using my ddns address in my firefox browser. Now this is where it gets weird....from my office pc (Vista business) I have no probs at all and can select which camera to view ect. I haven't tried playing back yet but am pretty confident that this function works. From my home laptop (Vista home prem) I can also log in but CANNOT CHOOSE CAMERAS OR PLAYBACK FOOTAGE?? The buttons appear to work (they change states when clicked, it's just that nothing happens). I can change resolution, access the setup menu and use the snapshot functions though.... I have tried the following with no success.... Updated Java Reinstalled firefox Upgraded Video Server E Turned off firewall Turned off UAC all with no success! I then got out my old laptop (xp pro), still from home and was able to log in & use all functions which eliminates the possibility of it being somehow related to my home location. Is there some really obvious thing I haven't thought of...something exclusive to Vista Home premium perhaps???? My DVR is set to static, port 80 etc and I have set up with dyndns as my shop IP is not fixed....although it has not changed since setting up, and surely this is irrelevant as I can log in. Can anyone shed some light on this? [/b][/u]

Hi, just a quick intro, my name is Douglas & I'm obviously new to this forum. Like many others who have joined before me I've encountered some issues with my DVR setup & hope to feel enlightened. I have a setup in one of my shops with 4 cameras, an Avtech 8 ch atv785 DVR.
