Precision/Stunt Car On Board Video-Recording Help

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Can someone give us a hand of help in this matter.

We would like to obtain video footage from a set of of 4 CCD cameras installed in the interior of a car and record all the action on a mobile DVR.

After spending countless hours and visiting hundreds of pages we came to the conclusion that we din not came to any conclusion (we're not even close), hence the present post.

Based on our application, what are the cameras and Mobile DVR technical specifications we are suppose to be "on the look out for", what to ask a manufacturer/supplier, how to avoid/spot the "Specification Hype".

Any recommended hardware?

For detailed requirement specifications please refer to this page:

Thank you anticipated for your time and effort.

Is there some reason 4 camcorders with firewire connections and a desktop PC wouldn't be a better option?

Hey Thomas,

For one, I never thought of that . Second I believe that a desktop PC wouldn't be suitable for a racing car.

Firewire... ... ok, this souinds like a good idea...

Maybe camcorders with solid-state recording media. Hard disks and tape might suffer from interruptions.

You dump them onto the PC afterwards. It stays on a nice safe stable desk.

Ok, that is an idea to find a DVR that uses Flash Card instead of HDD.

Do you have any brand in mind, manufacturer or distributor?

Thank you!

How long do u want to record ?

some small portable DVR record on SD Card

This is the hard part...

I need to record H.264, D1 resolution from four 1/3" Sony Ex-view 480 TVL (or Super HAD 520 TVL) cameras for 3-4 hours at 120 FPS (30 FPS each camera)

Is there any formula to calculate the recording time based on the number of cameras, recording resolution, and frames per second?
