Remote View Works Great, But Not For Client On ADSL?

Hi, I first want to thank all of you for your informational posts. I've done lots of reading here before installing a system in my father's business.

 

Here's the setup:

 

1. Everfocus DVR on dedicated Advanced Cable internet with fixed IP

 

2. Remote view verified to work great on Comcast & Cox Cable internet.

 

3. Remote view does NOT work at client's house using Bellsouth ADSL.

 

4. Four computers tested on the DSL connection, including my verified working on cable internet laptop, all had the same problem.

 

The EverFocus Java applet loads fine in IE/Firefox at the DSL location. Then we enter the log/pass and hit submit. The login box goes away and the cameras don't load up. Just the four blue boxes remain.

 

At the Comcast or Cox cable internet remote view locations, the four blue boxes change into the live views for each of the cameras.

 

Does anyone have any ideas? Any settings I need to change in the client's DSL modem or Linksys Router?

 

The last resort is just to switch his Bellsouth ADSL for Comcast cable.

It sounds like the DVR's port number is blocked by the Bellsouth ADSL.

 

Are you using port 80?

 

If you are using port 80, then perhaps you can go in to the modem/router's virtual server and make the changes?

 

Is this a Westell Netopia?

The DVR is on Advanced Cable business internet.

 

The remote view works great at remote locations using Comcast Cable or Cox Cable.

 

The problem occurs when accessing the remote view at a home that has Bellsouth ADSL.

 

The DVR's Java applet loads at the DSL location but after inputting the log/pass, the camera screens remain blue rather than switching to the live video.

 

I attached a screenshot of the DVR's remote view as viewed from my place using Comcast cable. It works great.

 

The client has a Westell DSL modem and a Linksys router at his home.

 

One of those devices or Bellsouth is somehow not allowing the streaming video from the DVR to display on any computer on the network, including my laptop that works great here on Comcast cable.

 

I thought that opening ports was only necessary on the DVR's side. I have a Motorola Surfboard modem and a Linksys router. I didn't have to make any changes here at my home in order to view the cameras.

 

I'm thinking that I need to call Bellsouth. If they don't have a solution, I'm going to switch my dad to Comcast cable. I've had nothing but problems with ADSL providers in the past. /rant

When you cannot see the video do you have a small x in the top left hand of the screen?

 

That's a good question.

 

No, we don't see an "x" on the blue boxes where the videos should be displaying.

 

I'm assuming you mean the small "x" that you would see in a video screen if a plugin necessary to view the video wasn't installed.

java is very finicky. double check that the versions match on the working vs. non working computers. make sure you are using the same version of IE also. check Pelco's manual for which version of java to use and don't expect newer versions of java to be backwards compatible. they are not in many cases.
