Focus problem @ night...Speco Intensifier series

Recommended Posts

I have an interesting (frustrating?) problem with a Speco Intensifier dome installed outside at my shop. When the lighting starts to fade, the picture gets "fuzzy" or out of focus. Not so bad that you can't see what's going on, but definitely fuzzy. Picture sharpens right up as the sun comes up and stays clear throughout the day.

Now, the strange thing is...I've installed dozens of these cameras at other locations for my clients and they are all sharp as a tack @ night.

All locations have similar lighting (parking lot with commercial floodlights).

I'm guessing one of my settings are off, but I can't seem to narrow it down.

Settings are:

Lens Type (DC Iris/Manual)

Shutter Type (Elec/Fixed/Manual)

White Balance (ATW/AWC/Manual)

SLC (Off/Low/Middle/High)

AutoGain (Off/Low/Middle/High)

Reduce Noise (Off/Low/Middle/High)

Intensifier (Auto/Off)

Hello,

maybe it is just a problem with Depth of Field (DoF)?

Did You test another copy of this camera in the same place?

Maybe this on is broken?

Lens should be set up as DC,

the rest of the parameters shouldn't influence the sharpness of picture.

By the way - does the menu of this camera looks similar to this one?

If yes, than it looks very similar to Samsung's cameras.

Well, ok, positions in menu have different names .

Regards.

Don't think it's Depth of Field...pic looks good during daylight.

Yes, that's the same OSD.

Hello,

Don't think it's Depth of Field...pic looks good during daylight.

Well, that's why I asked.

Picture can be sharp in day light, because aperture is almost closed and DoF is large.

When it is getting dark, aperture has to open, DoF gets smaller and objects,

which should be sharp are outside the DoF.

You should set lens using ND filter/when it is dark/using special position in menu (like Lens wizard).

Are You sure, that it is not the problem?

Regards.

Ahh...I didn't think of it that way.

Again, I'm comparing this installation to many others I've installed. The only one I'm having issues with is the one on my own shop!

I'll play around with what you recommended.

How is the motion blur on these cameras in the dark?

Not significant, if any. Very nice, clear bright pic (except on MINE!).

Sorry, no. Unfortunately I don't know everything there is to know about cameras. That's why I post questions here along with everyone else who is having issues with their installs.
