Realtime or H264

Neither. There is alot more to a DVR then the both of those.

For example, the DVR's H264 could be terrible quality.

The DVR could only be real time in very low quality.

However, H.264 is an advanced technology of video compression, Which may save you more HDD space. And it offers you better network transmission quality.

As for Real-time, you should consider it under what format. HD1? Half HD1? CIF? Or something else...HD1 is the best!

Are u talking about Stand alone DVR ? or ?

confused, HD1= Half D1, Full D1= D1 resolution. You also should concern display mode with D1 or playback mode with D1, palyback mode D1 was Full D1. Almost DVR display can achieve to D1, but playback always CIF(real time).
