Newbie Residential Question

Hi Guys,

First post so please bare with me. It seems bewildering the amount of equipment which can be purchased in the field of security CCTV!

I'm looking for a 4ch system for my home and came across the DVR in this link to start a build package. I was wondering if anyone could offer me any insight into the products offered by this company. I primarily want the system to keep an eye on my dog in my fenced in backyard, strange I know, however all the other benefits of looking out for my home help as well. The DVR seems to be what I want and they have it seems like some good Sony IR cameras from mild to wild but again just looking for a little input before I purchase from those with more experience in this field.

i would look at something better. the recording is crap. plus its a no name. take alook at avtech or the avermedia eb1304 sata. both are very good little units and both have good back-up. the cameras on the site you listed are good i.e cnb http://www.cctvsecuritypros.com/1sosuhadccd.html ideal for watching your yard.

the dvr listed is only cif recording. the higher the cif the better or D1. gives you much better video quality. So what is the difference in “potential” quality of CIF vs. 4CIF? Resolution quantifies only how close pixels or lines can be to each other and still be visibly resolved. A 4CIF image “can” potentially produce a better quality image then a CIF image because the more pixels used to represent an image; the closer the result can resemble the original.

and this is the main thing you look for when buying a dvr. and the price of the system you listed you can buy a good 4 channel d1 dvr.
