video web server s avtech cant change settings

i have an avtech 9ch dvr with video web server. i had this working remotely a few months ago but then turned it all off. Now, wanting to use it all again i cant change any ip or baud rate settings with the video server s software. It allows me to log in and change stuff like my download path but no server settings.

 

I have hard reset the server and now it shows 192.168.1.10. I can view the cameras in IE (by typing in this address) but cant control anything like i used to (the menu button in the browser etc). i have used a crossover cable and patch lead to connect directly to the server when using the video server s software. Whenever i change any settings (like baud rate) it shows a dialog box with 'Change System Config is failed'. I have uninstalled the software and reinstalled. My aim is to be able to control the dvr remotely again.
