Does reliable Face recognition Software exist?

 

Let's say I have several people and I want to be alerted when they show up - even when the guy watching the screens has not noticed anything or doesn't have his attention on the camera.

Yes it does.

 

It tends to require some very high end imaging cameras.

 

That is all I can say on an open forum.
