Baluns In or Baluns Out

Recommended Posts

Whats your preferred method of wiring cat5/6 to a indoor box camera with no enclosure?

Do you run the UTP directly to the camera with a balun off the back or a length of rg59 to the closest junction box and leave the balun in there?

In my case the camera's are hanging just off the J box. Additionally do you like to leave a loop of wire out of the box to the camera or just short, clean and direct, leaving a little extra in the J box?

Thanks!

For me at least, there is no universal preference here - it's whatever works best in a given situation.

Few times i use setups with no baluns

When CAT5/6 cable length not exceeds 100 m, you can connect one wire to signal, and all another to ground.

And really no image problems.....

I thought that may end up being the answer. I like having one less splice and failure point so Ive been going balun on back of camera and just be sure to secure the wiring well.

Thanks again!
