Its sad that The OEM did not provide the specs for this devices 'audio input', even after calling said OEM, it appears only the engineer knows this info; said engineer has yet to respond after days of leaving voicemail.

 

The issue: My Lorex LH310 has 2-audio inputs of which I recently found out can not handle a directly connected microphone without first plugging the microphone to a preamp then plugging said preamp to the Lorex\DVRs'\audio input.

 

The goal: Using the DVRs' two (2) available audio inputs channels: 1) with a hardwired connection, 2) the other channels input would come from a wireless microphone.

 

As I see it my current concern is: "what are the 'audio input' specifications, of the DVR, to enable me to intelligently purchase the correct preamp/wireless audio input capture device.

 

QUESTION: What are standards and/or specifications, if any, for 'audio input' channels within standalone/dedicated DVR's? -- In this case its a Lorex box.

It'll be the same as any other device with general purpose sound inputs and outputs, "line level."

Out of the hundreds of DVRs I've personally installed... I can only remember one make/ model that had direct microphone inputs without the need for a separate preamp.

What are your laws for your area?

 

DO NOT BUY USED WIRELESS MICROPHONES! There has been a change with the FCC and a whole class of wireless microphones can no longer be used. You will find these on fire sales, or as is and no return.

 

You will need to seek professional help to install the mics.

 

Watch out for a/c ducts as they have air flow, and the mics may pick up the sound if too close.

 

Some light sources will put hum in to your mic circuit.

 

You should do a mock up of the mic locations to test them before you do permant wire runs.
