Wiring recommendations

Recommended Posts

I am waiting for 2 IP and 2 analog cameras to arrive and my neighbor to schedule a day to run cables.

Since wiring has not started should I run cat5 to all camera locations and then split it for the 2 analog cameras I'm getting.

I have space to add 2 more IP and 2 more analog. I'm guessing over time I'll want to have all IP.

You can use analog cameras just fine with cat5. Make sure you use baluns at both ends. You only need to use one of the twisted pairs in the cable for video. The rest can be split in half for power.

Birdman is correct. Running Cat 5 is preferable if you plan on eventually going to IP's in the future and will work just fine with analog and baluns for the present.
