PC based vs standalone ( Avermedia vs Samsung)

Recommended Posts

Hi to all,

Sorry for my English, but i want to share with you something maybe you know.

On past we bougth Samsung DVR SHR-5162

with Sony CCTV cameras

we were no happy with the performance of Samsung, it have a nice interface but not search features and very bad quality.

So i decide to go with a base PC server, i read and found that aver-media could be a good option so i purchase an PC DVR with nv6480exp capture card with 16 channels and IP support.

Now i ca take a full advantage for my Sony cameras at 540 TVL i know is not the same quality as Megapixel cameras but the quality improves a lot.

(This is a picture for the lunch room on the company, this is for Samsung DVR)

CIF resolution

(And this is with Aver-media)

640X480

Now i can identify more easily the people faces, and the search features are better, like specific zone movement.

On past i spend 1 week to resolve an investigation now i spend like 2 days.

The costs are no so different, if you build your own PC DVR you will save a lot of money.

The plus here is on the future, where IP Megapixel cameras will take a full advantage of this system.

i recommend to avoid at least Samsung dedicated DVR.

Thanks and regards!!

Hello,

No that unit not, but i use two different generation of samsung DVRs, and the only difference between them was the video resolution.

i see the manual of that DVR and the interface and search option are more advanced, the only thing is if the search features are on web viewer, because on my case, i have the DVR on a security office with guards, and i from my computer search on the recorded video, so i dont need to go and disturb the guards.

If you see at 704x480 resolution it have 60FPS, meaning 3.75 FPS at each channel. if you can live with that i think its ok.

with this avermedia i want to use an AV8180, do you know something about this cameras?

Thanks!!
