4 Blown Cameras

We were back on site today finishing up a job that has cameras integrated into the AV system. 4 of the 5 outdoor cameras were blown. Here's the equipment list in question:

 

Elan V8 composite video switcher

6- Speco VL66 bullet cameras

Altronix 8 output fused 12V DC power supply

 

 

 

I checked the power supply and each output was giving me my 12V

The Video switcher was also blown. Would not power up.

 

Incidently, Cameras are mounted to the soffits

 

Checked the camera connections and seemed fine.

There has been no major storms lately so I've ruled that out.

 

Is it possible that the V8 switcher went first and sent a surge up the coax lines, frying the cameras?

Anything is possible, though have you checked power at the camera side?

Also I would take a camera down and test it on its own power supply and direct to a monitor.

Or try a different camera there you know works.

Also take the switcher out of the picture for now.
