Feedback On Video Insight

Recommended Posts

I am currently installing 70 IP cameras, a mix of Arecont 5105, 3105, 8185, and Vivotek 8185.

I am currently running Luxriot, but not really liking the performance.

Current NVR setup (2) Dual quad core Zenon; 8 GB , 30 GB SSD, 48 TB RAID 6 servers.

The luxriot easily peaks my CPU load (30 cams), and I had to trim down frame rate, make motion detect on camera side and still at around 80 % load.

I was researching and found Video Insight, seem like a good way to go. I have seen the webinar and I tried the demo on my server today using virtual pc.

Have anyone had good or bad experience with them? any input would be appreciated.

thanks

I haven't used Video Insight since v3.1, but they've always been a pretty solid system, and tech support was generally good the odd times I needed them. I do like their web interface, which works on any browser or mobile I've tried it on.

thanks.

from the reviews here, I am looking into Exacq VMS also.

Any thoughts on which one would be a better choice (price, features)?

So all of your cameras are MP? So you have 2 servers with 48TB each?

Cant help on the software, but just wondering what kind of power supply do you have in them, also is it custom built yourself or purchased ready made? And how is the cooling in it? Would love to see some photos of that build

yes all MP cameras (2 MP Vivoteks, 3 and 5 MP Arecont) and yes TWO 48TB servers (24 2TB drives in a 4U chassis)

Are these servers only or clients too? Reason I ask is the SSD could give you some problems depending on how they render the video. I have used VI and I had major problems with it to the point where they refunded the money. Now this was 2 years ago so hopefully they got the bugs worked out. Right now I use Exacq, testing Milestone and Avigilon next.

The SSDs are only 30GB, according to the OP; I'm guessing those are dedicated as the system drives, so they shouldn't really have an effect on the video.

If used a Client/Server setup depending on the VMS they can. Also what is you bandwidth coming into the servers?

I'll post up some pics of the server tomorrow, its running a redundant 900w PS and a in a 4U server case from Supermicro. http://www.supermicro.com/products/chassis/4U/846/SC846TQ-R900.cfm

this is only going to be a server, only temporarily using it as a setup client. The CPU load is still at 80% when the client is not running.

The bandwidth is gigabit and according to the task manager, the load is very small so far.

also can anyone confirm is Vivotek 8361/8161 cameras have 'camera side motion detection'. According to the Luxriot support I get from my distributor, it doesnt ...

Luxriot can do server or client motion detection. Do you see a "Motion Detection" tab when you log into the Vivtotek camera? I would try move all motion detection to the cameras and see what happens to your CPU load. Also if this was my build I would know exactly how much bandwidth is coming into the servers. What raid card are you using?

I understand Luxriot can do both types of detection. I have all the Arecont cameras doing that now, but having a tough time getting the Vivotek to do it. And since Im going to have about 35 of them, its going to be a problem.

I have check the Motion detection tab on the vivoteks menu, but it doesnt do anything for the Luxriot. I will update the firmware to see if it will fix the sensor bar not showing anything in the camera menu.

I havent really taken note of the bandwidth since all the cameras are not installed. But it was hovering around 10-15% on a gigabit port.

I can't speak on Video Insight, as I haven't used it personally, but I can say that you will have significantly less processor overhead from Exacq, compared to Luxriot.

Ive been trying the Video Insight S/W for a couple days now and it seems ok but I have a few issues.

-The VI software wont display an image for Arecont 3135 under H.264, only Mpeg.

-The S/W gives me a error message on some of my recordings. (file is corrupt or being use by another program) I After talking tech support, they indicated the file size was larger then the maximum specified (200 MB ), but could help me until I went to the latest release. I was on the latest I thought, but apparently they just released a new version.

-cant get the camera side motion detect to work for Vivotek FD8361

It boggles my mine that they are in a version 4.XX release and still have these kind of issues.

here are some pics of the server

Personally I think VI has so much tech support for a reason.

Why are you not impressed with the side cameras? If your talking about the rotation of the outside images that is because the camera is mounted to high. FYI the new version will have the ability to rotate the outside imagers.

Also what RAID card are you using and how much bandwidth is coming into the server?

I really like the FD8361 , good image. The new model fixed the cable length and the amount of connectors. I also use the FD8161, basically the same camera, but I wished it looked more sleek.

Another thing that bothers me about this camera is the rubber part that goes around the lens to block out he IRs. Pain int the butt to put back on, I got it down now but still takes a few minutes.

Im supposed to sit in on a webinar tomorrow. Ill bringt hese issues up.

Im not impressed with the side cameras because they are not as clear as I want. It seems like they get a bit blurry. I might see if I can focus them.

Im using 3Ware Raid card, running RAID6. I know Im using about 15% of my Gigabit card, what would be a better way of measuring my bandwidth?

lets see what the webinar tomorrow brings . I found out after searching and viewing recorded video for a few hours, it would fill up the Windows 7 temp folder, and since Im only on 30 GB SSD , it got full quick. ....Im, beginning to dislike the VI S/W more and more
