Can I use a dedicated PC instead of an NVR?

8 Cameras (3 megapixel IP, & 5 analog)

IP cameras on a switch and the 5 analog connected to a 25 pin cable w 16 BNC Balun.

Sure; you just need to install some form of NVR software (Exacq, Milestone, etc. - there are several out there).

IP cameras on a switch and the 5 analog connected to a 25 pin cable w 16 BNC Balun.

 

What you need, then, is either an analog capture card for the analog cameras, and hybrid-DVR software; or a multi-channel video-to-IP server to make the analog cameras "networkable".

yes using a dedicated PC is fine but it depends on how old it is and if it is capable of doing the job.

 

this card will do just what you need supports 5mp cameras. avermedia NV6240T
