Extending cables on 1480 combo card

Recommended Posts

We are looking to possibly move the DVR to another location. We have a GV-1480 DVI combo card. At the moment we aren't using any Audio channels, just video. Instead of purchasing and running 16 new BNC patch cables, is it possible to use a DVI cable to extend the video from the card to the Geovision DVI to BNC adapter without any video degradation?

I haven't tried what your suggesting, but if you end up trying it with a short dvi cable and it works then I would assume it would work with a longer one. Either way, post your results and let us know, I'm curious as well.

I have a few 25 or 30' DVI cables as well as DVI powered repeaters for sale if you are interested, they were used in a nightclub I used to own and no longer need them.

be careful testing with a short cable and assuming it will work with a longer cable.

not with geovision, but i have tested with short runs, maybe 15-25ft and had great results. i extended the run another 50 ft to get to my destination and i didnt have signal.

i had to buy a long range cat5 to x converter. in my case it was cat5 to vga.

the convert works great...a really long vga cable didnt work so well.

however, i am still confused on what you are trying to do.

isnt the dvi on the geovision card for video out?
