EUROPEAN WEBCAM?

Recommended Posts

Hello!

We have a customer in Florida who's asking us to install some equipment in France (webcam) and in the States, but he does not want american made brands, he wants European or Jap. equipment. Can anyone recommend any good manufacturer you have dealt with in the past? Please, remember that the voltage we'll be needing is 220V for France, and then for the States we would need to convert it, or otherwise have the manufacturer sell us one that will work over here. Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

but he does not want american made brands,

If it is top of the line, what relevance would where it is made, make? Use the French brand DVR-a monkey with binoculars sitting the roof.

HTAccess, there are no American made brands. The companies operating in U.S., regardless if they are based in U.S. or not, they all get their gear made in Far East under some contract...

Here are some of them... (I will exclude Bosch, as our friend from Australia already posted it:

1. American Dynamics - http://www.americandynamics.net/home/default.aspx - they mostly bring everything from their factories in China and from Puerto Rico.

2. Panasonic - http://panasonic.com/business/security/home.asp - mainly from Japan and China

3. Sanyo - http://sanyo.com/industrial/security/products.cfm - mainly from Japan and China

4. GE Security - http://www.gesecurity.com/portal/site/GESecurity/menuitem.f76d98ccce4cabed5efa421766030730?selectedID=656&seriesyn=false&t=prod - they make the equipment all over the world.

And others. They all make PAL equipment, some you can get in U.S. some you can not...

LOL@ Rory, guess that means the Geo machines I built all were Made in Australia

They are assembled in USA, its just a board after all...almost everyone gets there gear from far east...and I do mean almost everyone, the only difference is that some larger companies have exclusive contracts so they get to OEM the gear under their name.

Rory will disagree as usual but Metz is right, there are NO factories that I am aware of that are in the USA only points of assembly

Well Metz will know better than me regarding GE ...

though regarding the GE DVRs, I can buy the power PC board & CPU myself, buy the Nucleus RTOS Licence, add some BNC and HDDs to it, program the nucleous OS and have as much right to call it built in the Bahamas as GEO has to say they are made in Taiwan, since their cards are made in *****

As for your GEO systems, what exactly did you do besides put together a PC and load the GEO software? I mean was there any real programming involved?

Closest GE "factories" to me are on in Southern California and another in Oregon. Well, I call them factories, as they use them to assemble already built boards and cases... Mainly, these facilities are for warehouse locations and a plant to assemble the final product and this is something what most of them to anyway. Does GE make all their product ground up? I do not think so, however their final assembly and testing happens here in U.S....

As for their cameras (excluding the domes), they are substandard even now... The chipeset is from Sharp and the quality of the picture is below standard, therefore they are not doing well on their camera yet. I know this, they have a newer "manufacturer" of their cameras in China that started using Sony chipsets and I have seen some their latest and greatest stuff, but they still have a lot to do...

Panasonic may have the worst reputation in customer service, delivery schedules and more importantly, the worst pricing, but GE still can get some lessons on Panasonic's cameras technology, the performance and the quality... I am sure GE will catch up and surpass everyone else at one point, but for now, their are far distant in this area...

Their Hidden cameras rock though at least for their real life looks as an alarm device (not neccassarily the camera though->GBC), and I did like their PTZ and Exview Box cam (Kalatel), great quality.

Rory, I concur, the special application cameras are and the domes are excellent, little on the pricey side, but they deliver the goods...
