I have a wooden door that is mostly glass, picture below: http://i.imgur.com/9Rh0A7x.jpg Anybody who comes to the house can just see inside the windows and we are going to install privacy film on the window. Of course this will limit our ability to see who is at the door. I am looking to avoid installing a peephole into this door as it really wasn't designed for one and there is no ideal location for it. So we are looking to install a camera. When the house was built, the original owner ran the wires for a future camera (the metal plate on the right side). Here is a close up view. http://i.imgur.com/1SewBDA.jpg Inside the metal plate is an metal box (gang box I believe it's called) with a cable with an F connector and a conduit wire with 4 small wires inside - red, white, black and green. We have an Elan speaker system in the house and I believe some of the wires are for that and power/ground (I am obtaining a multimeter to be sure). I have found out where the F connector terminates inside the house and tested it by attaching a video feed. Now the difficult part comes to choosing a camera. I also want to use the existing infrastructure for the camera and keep it as low key as possible. I found the following camera which also sends power over the coax file and has a built in modulator. It would work well with my decor and be low-profile. It seems almost perfect for my needs: http://www.netmedia.com/mod_cameras/modjbox_db.html However I have some questions with this. My main issue is this suitable to run outside? It would be inside a gang box with a panel over it and it will also be in the shade. However, how much will weather impact the view? If it rains or is foggy, will the clear panel get fogged up and provide no visibility? On another note, would lack of night vision be a problem? I believe my outdoor lights should provide enough illumination (i'll take a night time picture and put it up) but wanted another opinion. Finally, my plan is to turn it into an IP camera. I would take the feed inside the house and put it into a capture card on a server I have, and from there access the feed from anywhere. I emailed the company with my questions but this an old product and is discontinued on a lot of sites. Does anybody have any suggestions/feedback for this plan or other products perhaps?
